EZ-Fit PRO MB082SP Full Metal Dual 2.5" SSD/HDD Mounting Kit / Bracket

Overview
MB082SP

MB082SP

Icy Dock is proud to introduce the MB082SP, the newest product in the incredibly popular SSD/HDD bracket and converter line. Easy installation and durability is the key to this product, perfect for users that require the best physical protection of their data, with the least amount of hassle of installation.

MB082SP MB082SP

The MB082SP made of metal and has a matte black finish, eloquently made to protect your SSDs or hard drives, while allowing one to use it in most PC cases. The screw placement is on the sides and bottom of the bracket, which are of the exact locations of a 3.5” hard drive. The tool-less drive installation creates a simple way to install your SSD/HDD. Once that is done, then install as you would normally do with a 3.5” hard drive. All that is needed is to slide the SSDs or hard drives in and the drives will automatically lock into place and are secured by an EZ-Lock mechanism. The EZ-Lock works just like the way you install a battery in a compact digital camera. The EZ-Lock design not only benefits when you first install a drive, but also when you need to replace a failed SSD or hard drive. Unlike other brand’s bracket, you are no longer forced to deal with 12 small tiny screws, with the EZ-Lock system, simply toggle the EZ-Lock, pop up the drive and replace the failed drive in no time. This is perfect for a system that uses RAID. To reduce the amount of vibration in the drives and the case the MB082SP has a built in unique anti-vibration technology for each bay of the device.

For system builders installing drives using the traditional screw mounting method can really slow your production down. The MB082SP features a quick screw-less drive installation that cuts assembly time down. System builders, gamers, and DIY users, would benefit greatly from the MB082SP. The heavy duty solid metal construction and the simplicity of the drive installation make protecting and swapping your hard drives as easy as 1-2-3.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my SSD

Pros: Upgraded my home rig to an SSD finally, but my CoolerMaster case does not have appropriate bays for 2.5" drives. Got this Icy Dock bracket, loaded up on my SSD and installed into 3.5" bay, fits perfectly.

Cons: No cons really, the bracket itself feels very durable, not sure about the springs though, but I will not be removing or adding drives anytime soon

Other Thoughts: Get this bracket if you need to install smaller drives into larger bays

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome SSD bracket!

Pros: Great price. Well manufactured! Installed into the bay very nicely. My Chronos 7mm DX7 SSD slid right in and was snug. It never came out until you hit the button so no random drive ejection even while traveling. Nothing about this bracket was cheaply made.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Thank you ICY DOCK for putting the time in to make such a nice bracket. The price is great for such a well made item. It makes you feel pretty good to buy an item that you can completely be over satisfied with when you open the package, put it to use and it work better than you had planned.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Well made and easy to install, exactly what I needed to fit 2 SSDs into a limited space, glad I actually found this unit, was going to go with a single slot which couldn't fit anywhere in my case. Tool-less slots are a plus too.

Cons: Wont hold SSD's firmly in place, if inserting a thin drive its all over the place but wasn't built for that. If there were rubber pads on sides that would've helped to hold units in place more sturdy.

Other Thoughts: Remember that this was designed to fit 2 SSD's in a 3.5" space so expect power/SATA connectors to be a tight fit, though in my case there were no issues at all.

5 out of 5 eggsIcy Dock MB082SP

Pros: Have used Icy Dock products for years always very high quality excellent design. This time they have gone an extra mile. I was few days late mailing the rebate, customer service e-mailed and asked why, told them the truth I was simply busy with work, they processed the rebate anyway! Great products, super customer service!

5 out of 5 eggsawesome, but hardly necessary

Pros: well this device looks and feels cool. the construction is very solid (over built imho, but thats never bad). the feeling of clicking the drive into place is very satisfying.

Cons: unecessary. it mimics a hot swap bay, but oesnt really have any of the benefits, ie, not haivng to fuss with cables.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for the looks, not the functionality. I put my drives into my case backwards (the sata connectors towards the front when the case is open) to make this thing have any point, but it sure looks cool. great for SSD's, but I would not recommend for hdd's as the drives are very closely stacked and i doubt they would get good airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsBest adapter I found

Pros: rugged, all metal, super easy to mount (insert) 2.5" SSD or HHD. Nice to have all the standard screw holes on the side and on the bottom so it can mount on any type of 3.5" drive bays.

Cons: None that I can find.

Other Thoughts: I have another type of Icy Dock which, Lo and Behold, have no bottom holes, so it could not be mounted with my 2 Sonata cases with quick mount trays. These trays need bottom screw holes.

Pros: Does fit in a 3.5 space

Cons: drives wobble in there place, drives are too close together for most psu sata power connections...

Other Thoughts: I wouldnt buy this again

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Innovative design.
Solid construction.
Well-finished.

Cons: Heavy. (It's mostly thick sheet metal.)
Somewhat longer than it needs to be.
Where's the aluminum version?

Other Thoughts: This is perfect for installing 2.5" drive(s) in a hard-drive bay of a conventional PC case. If you have a case with tight dimensions or sideways mounting, I advise you to measure first.

1 out of 5 eggsMissing Parts

Pros: None

Cons: Missing adapter piece that actually holds the SSD into the mounting bracket itself. IE the spring loaded part that fits into bracket that mimics a 3.5 inch hard drive.

2 out of 5 eggsCOOL CONCEPT, BAD EXECUTION

Pros: Price
Very neat tool less design
Fit into case nicely

Cons: First off, I ordered 3 of these without paying much attention as to HOW they functioned(my fault, I usually research these things a bit more).

The trays that the SSD's rely on to slide into place are handled by one VERY cheap spring type mechanism that seemed to pop out of place after I ejected it for the VERY FIRST TIME.

Why would ICY DOCK not offer OR include some kind of SATA power cable solution with this item? The SSD's end up stacked on top of each other and are extremely close making it nearly impossible to connect any kind of normal sata power solution to them.

Even after they are connected it completely negates the EASY EJECT feature as you will have to somehow reach around and unplug the cables!! To re install you would then need to disassemble your case and(if you possess the fingers of a keebler elf) you should be able to reconnect the cables.

A more polished design would include some kind of hot swap interface that retains the form factor of a 3.5 enclosure and doesn't require you to finagle something. I would surely pay more for something like this.

Got these for a 6 SSD raid setup hoping it would keep things tidy and clean. It has in fact had the opposite effect and I regret purchasing them.
