Rating: 5/5Great way to get more SSDs into a system
This review is from: ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB996SP-6SB Full Metal 6 x 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD/HDD Hot Swap Mobile Rack Backplane Cage Module 5.25" Device Bay (Fits 7, 9.5mm height drive
Pros: - Feels sturdy - Nice finish (grippy) and aesthetics - LEDs on front help identify which bays are populated - Option to turn fan on/low/off is a nice addition - Comes with SATA to Molex adapters if you don't have any Molex power around
Cons: - One bay would jam up a little when trying to release it. Problem went away after mounting Icy Dock in case.
Other Thoughts: - Would be cool to see something like this with an SFF-8087 connector on the back to help with cable clutter. - When installed it looks a tiny bit smaller than other 5.25" devices in the PC. Probably due to the bezel-free metal design. I'm not sure how else you could make something like this out of metal though so no points off. - Be aware that you have to mount this with the supplied screws! When installing in my SilverStone FT02 case I had to remove the quick-release 5.25" latch because its pins were too long when engaged and would interfere with the Icy Dock. - Would love to see a version of this with
Rating: 5/5Solid construction, good engineering, high quality

Pros: Was actually smaller (shorter) than I expected. So it fit great in my SFF case (my bluray player was longer). That was a pleasant surprise (I reviewed the measurements before purchase - ambiguous if it included the added length of the fan or not). Things that were important to me were the trays (so I could fit my WD Red 2.5" magnetic drives and the lower profile SDD drives I had), the ability to control the fan and replace it if needed, and the ability to dissipate more heat via its all metal construction.
Cons: No real cons other than a few extra screws for the trays may have been nice - they are small and I feel I might lose them if not careful.
Other Thoughts: I will probably buy more ICY DOCK stuff in the future now that I made my first purchase. There are lots of options to choose from, and I researched options months (as this is more of a luxury item for me personally - you can always find internal locations to mount drives in most cases). The added flexibility of having to swap drives without ripping my case apart is now very appealing to me. I know this product will probably last me forever.... just need one more for my other case now :)

Pros: I connected 6 SSD with this device. Easy install using Windows 10. The unit has a quiet fan. It uses 2 power connectors and 6 SATA cables. The drives click in VERY smoothly. The device installs easily just like a DVD drive. I love the LED lights for EACH drive.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: The price was excellent considering I was able to save so much space in my cabinet to hook up 6 SSDs. TIP: Use SATA cables with the locking pins so nothing disconnects as you slide the device into your computer case. This is my second ICY DOCK purchase. They make great products.

Pros: Price, construction.
Cons: Fried most of my hardware!
Other Thoughts: Where do I start? I hooked this up and added 5 Crucial M500 240GB SSD drives and a spare Kingston 240GB. I was using the drives as a striped disk in Windows 7/10 for steam games prior to purchasing these gizmo. I hooked it up per the instructions, everything fit well. Put my machine back together and turned it on.... SMOKE! Machine didn't boot, quickly pulled the power plug. However the damage was done. This device ruined the 5 M500 240GB drives, shorted the Maximus Hero 7 motherboard and a 4TB drive, pretty much everything that was connected to the SATA. The only 2 drives that didn't get zapped were my Samsung 850 Pro which is my C: drive and the Kingston 240GB because I ran out of SATA ports. I talked to IcyDock but they highly doubt their product caused the issue. I didn't unhook anything from the motherboard. There are no visible signs of scorching or melting. The fan on this device does not work when powered, no lights come on now. They did briefly flash green as I smelled the smoke. My office smelled like the day after the 4th of July for about 2 hours and my wife was convinced the house was going to burn down. Trying to use this device cost me about $1000 today and I don't know if ICY DOCK is going to do anything about it other than replace this failed device. Stay far far away from this product.

Pros: Nice and compact. Fits in one 5 and a quarter bay
Cons: None that I could find
Other Thoughts: If you need a lot of 2.5 inch drives in a small space this is what you need. I have only used one of these so far but I have no complaints
This review is from: ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB996SP-6SB Full Metal 6 x 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD/HDD Hot Swap Mobile Rack Backplane Cage Module 5.25" Device Bay (Fits 7, 9.5mm height drive
Pros: Great to have 6 SSD in one optical drive bay. Only 2 molex to power the 6 drives Front SSD leds for activity
Cons: Drive caddie locking system clumsy. Lost 3 loading trays. 2 broken and 1 stuck in locked position. Cannot be pulled out. Ended up with only 3 drive caddies working out of 6 for $120! Expensive. Expensive Need one SATA cable per drive. No backplane.
Other Thoughts: It would be absolutely great if the locking system for the caddies was more robust and smooth. It could be a bit cheaper!

Pros: Looks Sharp attractive design, nice activity lights visible on front of each rack, Built in fan with two speeds or off position.
Cons: My Docking station was made improperly. The left side docks slid in and out easily but the right side especially the bottom right two I had to fight to get them in an out. The divider was slanted to the right at bottom causing the right cages to be way to tight. I ended up taking the three right side removable modules and grinding the sides down so they would slide in and out easier. This helped some but I ended up just re-drilling the bottom middle two holes so the divider would be straight up and down and separate both sides properly. After I did all this the modules slid in and out perfect. I did not feel like waiting on an RMA so this is why I fixed it myself plus I worried a replacement may have the same problem. I knock off 3 eggs for having to perform this procedure.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you use the included screws to mount your HDD or SSD's. You cannot use a screw that sticks up even the slightest for mounting the SSD to the Module or it wont line up properly with the back connectors. I have 6 Samsung 840 250 GB ssd's in mine attached to a LSI 9265i Raid card.... Works great!. I leave my fan off with the SSD's if You use HDD's I would leave fan on. The fan sucks air through the drives and into the Case

Pros: Got this to replace DVD drive in my WHS2011. Needed a eSata card to makes all these drives work - its so freaking cool to add six drives to my very small HP N36L. It now has ten internal hard drives - wow! Could not be happier.

Pros: - Full metal construction - BOTH activity and power LED - Has 6 bays - Has FAN options - Professional Look
Cons: - Requires screws (not tooless) - A bit pricey
Other Thoughts: Great Product with an excellent design but comes at a cost. I current have two SSDs installed, however only one of them properly shows activity LED, the other one stays lit at all times regardless of activity.

Pros: 1) Brilliant idea 2) Good look 3) Allows nicely organize the PC case
Cons: 1) Reliability. Intermittently loosing communication with drive located randomly in either bay 1,3 or 5. BIOS doesn't even see any drives in bay 4 & 6. LED's work okay. 2) Hardware. Mounting hardware is too long. If you were to install enclose in the case as usual, you will see, that forward screws won't allow to hot swap drives in bays 3 & 4. The way around is - not to install forward screws at all.
Other Thoughts: Kinda sad. I needed something like that, and yet, I guess I got a lemon that fails on me. Wouldn't be a big deal if that would be an issue with single drive, since I could simply change the intermittent bay with good working & move drive there; however, if you running RAID 0 - it is totally different story, & stuff like that get's ya really mad
