This review is from: ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB992SK-B Full Metal 2 x 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD/HDD Hot Swap Mobile Rack Backplane Cage Module for 3.5" Device Bay (Fits 7, 9.5mm height drive)
Pros: Very well built. (like you could drive your car over it, and be fine), All metal construction, with very good fit and finish. This unit takes only one SATA power cable for two drives. The unit is compact, and I like that it has a key for the doors. The doors and door latching mechanism is quite solid and robust, for being relatively small.
Cons: As many have reflected, this is not an inexpensive dock, but the quality is there. It would have been nice to have been "trayless", but of course the "trayless" designs suffer having to work for the different thickness of 2.5" hard drive design. I would use this primarily for SSD, as I am not sure this unit would offer adequate cooling for a spinning platter. Last, please make sure you do not lose the tiny screws that are used to secure the drive to the tray. They are kind of a special design with extremely flat screw heads, and other "normal" screws will not work.
Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research on this kind, and size, of hot swap dock bay. There are many other less expensive units out there, but none of the units I researches was rated so highly as this one. I am very pleased with this purchase. If I were doing extensive drive swap outs though, I would be tempted to look at the trayless designs. Screwing the drives to the sleds is kind of a pain, even if I know why ICY DOCK went with sleds on this design. The sleds ensure a more fool-proof fit on the various thickness of 2.5" drives.
This review is from: ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB992SK-B Full Metal 2 x 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD/HDD Hot Swap Mobile Rack Backplane Cage Module for 3.5" Device Bay (Fits 7, 9.5mm height drive)
Pros: Tough, all metal, hot swap, feel high quality for the price. Fit perfectly in the FLEX-FIT adapter from the same brand.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I try again and again to understand how they do to be able to sell that quality so cheap... First time I saw and read description, I was thinking that would be around 100$ and maybe more, but for 40$, you really have a great system. Built like a tank!
This review is from: ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB992SK-B Full Metal 2 x 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD/HDD Hot Swap Mobile Rack Backplane Cage Module for 3.5" Device Bay (Fits 7, 9.5mm height drive)
Pros: Very well made and modestly stylish. Constructed of quality metal parts. Lockable hot swap drive trays. Only one SATA power cable needed.
Cons: Only fits in a standard floppy disk bay. Adds about a pound to overall system mass. Lock operates on both doors at once. Needs two SATA cables since there is no port multiplier.
Other Thoughts: This is a fine way to put bootable hot swap media on the front panel of a computer which has an empty standard external 3.5inch floppy disk bay. It is possible to use a 5.25inch to 3.5inch FDD adapter if an empty ODD bay is available.
The unit is heavy and looks to be robust enough for workstation use. The patented Eagle Claw locking mechanism holds the drive trays firmly in place, yet when unlocked with one of the two supplied cylinder keys, they are easily ejected by simply pushing a button.
Whether booting multiple operating systems or running a two drive RAID array, this little gadget will add elegance and style to the machine while making it easier to operate in such environments where quick and reliable hot swapping is paramount.

Pros: Great product. Well constructed. Everything worked perfectly. I may buy another one soon.
Cons: Expensive but worth it. The drives are marked 1 and 2. They should have been marked 0 and 1.

Pros: Great device. Have 2 of these for my RAIDs with SSDs(Raid-0) with nonsensitive data and HDDs(Raid-1)
Cons: One concern is that one of the SATA connectors has no lock so it's very easy to disconnect the SATA cable by accident.

Pros: Great product. Compared to others should get 10 stars. Took about 14 min to assemble everything and get up and running
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Little expensive but for what you get and the quality of the construction it is well worth it

Pros: Fits in a 3.5" floppy disk slot flawlessly. Like everyone else that bought this thing has said, its mounted on the side with screws. So if you have an empty "traditional" empty 3.5" floppy drive slot, this thing is the ticket.
Mechanism for ejecting the drives feels very sturdy and smooth. Disks are adequately cooled. No errors or issues with hot swapping drives in Windows 2008 server. Disc transfer speed in benchmarks is unchanged as well. Verified to support SATA III.
The lock does not turn off power like other hot-swap trays I have used in the past. It is just a lock to secure the drive. I like this design way better.
Cons: Cost. Not super expensive, but costs more than most.
Other Thoughts: You get a free tray if you fill out the promotional form. It makes the higher price a little more bang for your buck.

Pros: Durable, positive engagement, can use without the key, and works with one drive if desired. I can change OS like socks now.

Pros: Nice way to have an easily accessible mirror. Solid construction.
Cons: My 2.5" SSDs were a little tight of a fit, but not problematic.
Other Thoughts: I'm using a 3.5" floppy drive on the front of my case to store 2 SSDs in a ZFS mirror on PC-BSD. Its nice to be able to change a drive without puling the case apart.
This review is from: ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB992SK-B Full Metal 2 x 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD/HDD Hot Swap Mobile Rack Backplane Cage Module for 3.5" Device Bay (Fits 7, 9.5mm height drive)
Pros: All metal construction, ahci support, supports 2.5 notebook hard drives and ssd drives.
Cons: None really, few cases have the small bays anymore they're all full size openings so you'll need a bezel of some type. Bays do not have their own locks, one lock for both bays.
Other Thoughts: I just rebuilt my system using a SSD for the OS drive and my older hard drives for just about everything except the operating system. This unit has two separate data cables and one single sata power connector. Most mobile racks you see these days are mostly all plastic, been there, when something breaks you pretty much throw it away. My new case still has one of the smaller front access bays, in the old days it was pretty much exclusively for floppy drives but no one uses those anymore so they've morphed into bays for notebook hard drives or lately for SSD drives. This thing is great there are two doors and you can have two drives installed at once, and the bay uses the same type of key that most other mobil racks I've owned uses so you aren't toting multiple keys. If your motherboard supports ahci and the drives do as well you can hot swap. This unit will support any thickness 2.5 drive, the fattest is 12.5 mm which I'm not sure is even made anymore, the typical ssd is also sort of fat as these things go. Setup was really easy, slide it in the bay, connect the cables, unlock the door pull out the tray install the drive, slide it back in lock it and away you go. No problems loading the OS to a drive in this bay and the dual setup will make it really easy to transfer the OS for that future time when the larger units are getting cheaper.
