Introducing the MB154SP-B, a 4-in-3 SATA internal RAID backplane for 3.5" SATA hard drives. This is a lite version of the MB45X series by removing the monitoring features and reducing the overall cost, while keeping the same 3 year warranty and the core tray system for hot swapping and maintenance are kept for the best reliability in the market.

Slimmed Down Design

The MB154SP-B has been redesigned to be a lighter module, while maintaining the same level of quality, build, and service you'd expect from an Icy Dock product. While the design has gone through some changes, the space saving design is still established. The backplane module allows up to 4 x 3.5" SATA III hard drives, while only consuming three 5.25" bays. The module has also been redesigned for the type of power connector accepted. 15 pin SATA power is used to provide better accessibility for various host systems.

Pros: Great product for swapping drives for a number of reasons without opening your case or messing with screws all the time.

Cons: Not really a con but I swapped out the fan before installing it so I could have longer power leads that reached to my seperate fan / thermal controller. Im OCD on keeping it cool on my drives.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to put normal hard drives in it your ok with what comes with the unit.

But if you are going to install SSD drives then order the ICYDOCK #M453TRAY-2B so you have the right hard drive trays from the start.

Pros: Disks are easy to install.
Fans have warning led's and beepers if they stop working.

Cons: Did not supply enough screws for all disks, not a major issue since I have screws.

Other Thoughts: I have bought 3 of these over 3+ years and all of them are still working, including the fans on even the oldest one.

You can see improvements over the earliest model I have to the latest model, but even the oldest ones still work good.

Pros: This is a fairly nice hotswap-capable cage. It works as advertised. With all four drives in, their temperatures are kept reasonably low. Three of the drives are at 31C and one is at 34C.

Cons: The trays feel extremely cheap. They are mostly plastic, and thin plastic at that. However, they do what they're supposed to.

The included 80mm fan is louder than I expected, but it is replaceable.
