4 out of 5 eggsGood

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: Works as it should
Cheap enough

Cons: You have to break the plastic tab to slide it in place for minor visual improvement

Other Thoughts: While not really a con, I'd prefer if this could be used without it coming out of the front of my pc. My obsidian 350D does not have covers for things that stick out of the 5.25 bays and so it looks bad.

3 out of 5 eggsgreat idea, bad execution

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: The idea of this device is great. It enabled me to remove my entire harddrive cage so that I would get more airflow to the GPU.

Cons: Icydock did not think this product through, nor is it compatible with all HDD. I slipped my HDD in the rails and the pins were too big for the mounting holes. In order to stabilize the drive, I had to drill new holes in the plastic for 2 extra mounting screws.
SSD and HDD are now installed.
Now about the power and data. Unless you have straight through (no elbow sata or daisy chained power), you will probably break one of your drives because of the stress from having a cable protruding on either side of a power plug. it's just not a good design based on the types of cable that come most PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: -Excellent fit for a 3.5" card reader
-Super easy & tool-less installation of 3.5" card reader
-Textured front panel looks nice when installed with 3.5" card reader

Cons: -none

Other Thoughts: I ordered this so that I could install a 3.5" multi-card reader in one of the 5.25" front panels of my system. The installation was as simple as sliding the device in and it clicked in place. Done. It secured easily into my tool-less drive bay as well. I can't speak to how well it works for 2.5" hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsCool solution

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: This is a cool solution, I was able to place 2 ssd s and a hard drive in a single 5 14 bay

Cons: I would like so see a more solid front instead of the slip in plastic cheep thing

Other Thoughts: I had an Obsidian 900 D with a broke card. this life me unable to mount and drives in the case. this solution worked pretty good. . you can also get an insert so you can install an aditional 2 ssd in the place of the hard drive. so you can mount up to 4 ssd in a single 5 1/4 inc bak. and handy solution for adding ssd s to older computer cases

5 out of 5 eggsGreat solution for fitting the most amount of drives in your case

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: I've built my own personal desktop server and I add more hard drive space as needed, along with http://www.flexraid.com/download-try-buy-traid/ (NZFS/Transparent RAID), and this way I can make the most out of both new and old hard drives alike.

Cons: None. Maybe *very slight* resistance fitting it in the 5 1/4" space.

4 out of 5 eggsFully Functional

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: Simple design, but functional. The textured front looks pretty good, especially if your case has a faux brushed-aluminum finish. Everything fits well and the price is right.

Cons: It does feel somewhat fragile with no drives installed.

Other Thoughts: I'd love to see a powder-coated steel version of this. Overall, it's a pretty neat little adapter.

3 out of 5 eggsNice

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: I like being able to slide in a 3.5" device/drive (I've got a tech republic USB 3.0 front panel in it right now).

Cons: This may not be the case for everyone, but for me:
The "Quick Release Eject Buttons" hit my drive cage so I have to slide the whole dock back about two inches in order to remove my two SSDs from it.

Other Thoughts: Unless you have straight SATA connectors, you might have a little trouble attaching your cables.

Pros: Securely Holds One 2.5" and two 2.5" hard drives/devices.
The Lightly textured face looks good
Does Exactly what it's meant to do

4 out of 5 eggsA good functional unit with a few caveats

This review is from: ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP 2 x 2.5” HDD/SSD to 5.25” Adapter/Bracket with 1 x 3.5” Device/Drive Bay

Pros: - Very versatile: It can accommodate 1 x 3.5" and 2 x 2.5" at the same time, if wanted
- Price
- Makes great use of what is otherwise dead space in a lot of cases
- Made of fairly sturdy, rigid plastic
- Works as intended
- Well packaged and quick delivery from Newegg

Cons: - 3.5" drive does not secure as well as I'd like
- Mounting holes for the unit to attach to the 5.25" bay could be easily stripped
- Recessed 2.5" drive bays can make for possibility difficult cable attachment and access; may necessitate removal of optical drives, or other items, above

Other Thoughts: Despite some cons, I do really like this unit, and of all that I looked at this one seemed to offer the most drive options. In that regard it really is excellent and makes use of 5.25" bays that are most often just dead space.

It's fairly well constructed with rigid plastic. However exercise caution when securing the unit to the 5.25" bay as it would be easy to strip the screw holes.

Securing the 3.5" drive by inserting it until the adapter's nibs click into the drive holes itself, leaves the drive too loose in my opinion. Using the optional two screw mounting points - one on each side - to secure the drive, is much better. However I would have also liked the option of the usual four screw mounting points. 3.5" HDD"s are spinning platter drives after all, and the more secure the better for reliability and longevity. Not so necessary with the 2.5" drives provided they're SSD's, so the click in style works for them.

While I like how easy it is to insert the 2.5" drives, and they have a satisfying click, I think if the unit had been designed with the 2.5" drives closer to flush with the 3.5" drive, it would still have not interfered with the cabling of the 3.5" drive, and it would have made it much easier to attach cables to the 2.5" drives and access them to remove or insert others as needed.

I put the coolest of my 3 HDD's - a 1TB WD Blue - into this adapter. With two SSD's and an optical drive directly above, idle and load temps of that HDD drive rose by about 4C. That's not too bad, and considering what this unit offers in terms of practicality and utilization of space I can't see any other way around this; it's more caveat than con.

I think this is probably the best option at this price point, and despite what I see as some minor design flaws, the cons aren't enough to put me off it, or dissuade me from using it. It's still a very clever design. It's functional and practical. And I'd buy another if I needed. 4 out of 5 eggs
