1 out of 5 eggsCaddy to replace CD/DVD drive

Pros: It was a low cost option, on sale for around $10.

Cons: The description never really described what laptops it supported so I took a chance that it might support my Lenovo T420. It did not. The caddy was too short and even pushed all the way in could not make a proper connection. Was also very difficult to remove from laptop.

Other Thoughts: It would have been helpful if the product listed what laptops it was known or known not to support.

4 out of 5 eggsWell Designed Product

Pros: -Fits my Lenovo Y580 perfectly
-All of the screws you'll need are included
-If you can figure out how to pop the outside plastic panel off of your optical drive (there were plastic tabs on each side, requires some wiggling) it will fit on this and your laptop won't look any different.

Cons: Seems to be made of flimsy plastic. Don't know why it's $20 for a piece of plastic, some screws, and a small PCB.

Other Thoughts: -It mounts inside my laptop securely, so the thin plastic isn't a huge deal.
-Bi-color LED. I don't look at the side of my laptop when I'm using it, but it's a nice touch.

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't fit mid-2010 or newer Macbook Pro

Pros: High quality construction

Cons: Marketing this as fitting a "Macbook Pro" is laughable.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure this is great for other laptops and slim ODD slots, but don't bother if your putting it in a Macbook Pro

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone and we apologize for the error made on Newegg's product description. The TS09 does not support fitting into Macbook Pro. We have another product, in "TS08" that was designed to fit Macbook Pro. Please get in contact with either Newegg's customer service or with us directly for information on how to get your TS09 replaced with TS08. Our contact information is as follows:

5 out of 5 eggsGood quality, works great

Pros: Good build quality, its put together well and does not feel cheap.

Comes with more than enough screws. 4 to hold your HDD/SDD in the caddy, and 5 or 6 other screws of various sizes to hold the caddy in your laptop. I only needed 2 for mine, and it had the correct sizes with it.

Transfers speeds on the HDD are as you would expect. Mine is plugged into a SATA 2 port.

Bezel fit on the outside with no issue.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Fit perfectly and works great in my MSI GE70-0ND. First HDD caddy I've ever purchased and I would easily recommend this one to anyone who has a laptop that it would fit.

5 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for.

Pros: Relatively high quality construction. Works without issue.

Cons: None, really.

Other Thoughts: After using a handful of less expensive laptop optical drive caddies that I purchased from various internet retailers and being frustrated with their generally shoddy build quality, I decided to spring a few extra dollars on this Silverstone model at Newegg for my own laptop. This fit in my Dell Vostro 3340 without issue and supports my Toshiba 1TB 5400rpm HDD just fine. Reads and writes are the same with this interface as they were in my desktop during the initial data loading, so don't worry about decreased performance with a spinning HDD. Now I have an Intel 520 Series 120GB SSD in my laptop's SATA III main drive interface/bay and a 1TB storage drive on the SATA II optical drive interface. Fantastic!

Make sure you put an SSD in your laptop's main drive bay because almost all recent laptops use SATA II on the optical drive interface (and current SSDs are bottlenecked by the SATA II interface) - this is not a limitation of this product, it is a limitation of the laptop.

Silverstone makes a variety of niche products, and without fail, they have been pretty high quality in my experience. They might cost a bit more, but to me, the few extra dollars are worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsTS09 conversion tray

Pros: Fits into my optical drive bay and much cheaper then the manufacture's SATA to OD bay converter. It does work very well with 2.5" SATA drives up to 9.5mm in height.

Cons: LED indicator does not work. Tested on SSD and different brands of HDD's, only shows a steady green. Tested LED and it does have both working elements, Blue and Green.

Other Thoughts: Wish there was a schematic included for the board and possible options for LEDs
