2 out of 5 eggsmissing features. bad design

Pros: Cheap. No separate SATA and SATA Power connectors to break off. LONG (24") integral SATA Cable

Cons: No lights to indicate drive status
Integral SATA cable is low quality I lose 50 Mb/Sec compared to direct connection - 189.7 vs 137.01
No way to replace the junk cable
Bad airflow - only that of the front latch is perforated - most other vendors perforate the entire lath and sidebars.
Since the tray will only work with SATA drives, why id the power connector Molex?

Other Thoughts: bought it to replace a nonfunctional Rosewill dock. After looking at SYBA closely, repaired the Rosewill with copious Krazy Glue, and am using that part..

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsOh yeah.

Pros: Simple, seems well built. Not sure about the hot swap, my asus would probably do it. However the paper work that comes with it says,"do not remove drive while running". So the next one I get will have a switch in line, probably not on the wireing that comes with it, but some where. That way you can use device manager when you want to change drives.

Cons: None as yet.

Other Thoughts: Thin Seagate drives seem to not want to install as easily as standard thickness drives like WD. And case's that are tooless on one side and have a pressure tab on the other like my Rosewill are a little tricky. Had to inset a little further than I wanted. A future case mod will take care of that. Time to dive into my salvage bin again. :)

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Its cheap and fits my case well

Cons: With it being open inside, i had issues with cords from my fan speed controller stuck in there. I still give it 5 eggs as that is my problem and it is cheap, but it is something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts: Good for the price and i use it well

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as intended

Pros: - Holds my 1TB HDD. works perfectly.
- Locks.
- HDD slides in easily and and fits snugly. Doesn't scratch.
- a pair of keys.

Cons: - will buzz if my disk is spinning at full. Does it rarely, but it's annoying. all I have to do is give it a little push and it stops.
- the right side of it goes a little to far into my case.
- uses molex to power it. big turn off. I wouldn't mind paying $20 bux for this just so i can use sata power.
- red sata cable. would much rather prefer black.

Other Thoughts: a knew going it it was molex power and red sata cable, but that still didnt take away the feeling of a 4 egg product. Still good for the price, but not 100% satisfied with it. more like 85%.

So it's really solid for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for light duty needs

Pros: I have a Corsair 650D case and I wanted to place an extra hard drive in the 5.25" bays above the front fan. I liked the subdued styling and lack of front LEDs.

This rack was easily installed using screws. (Make sure that the screws you are using are not of the long type.) The vibration damping is a nice touch, especially at this price.

The lack of fans turned out to be a non-issue. The rack is of an open design, and SMART data shows a Samsung F4 2TB 5400-rpm drive staying under 30 deg C.

Now I can easily hot-swap bare 3.5" drives.

Cons: I have a windowed case and I've gone to the effort of using black and well sleeved cables, so the bright red SATA and unsleeved power cables really don't look good -- and they can't be removed, either.

Other Thoughts: If I were swapping out drives several times a day, I might have concerns about the durability of this unit. It seems perfectly adequate for occasional use, though.

5 out of 5 eggsSlick Little Device for Backups

Pros: - Inexpensive
- fits in a normal CD slot
- great for setting up rotating offsite backups
- easy to install

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: note: I saw a msg this only handles disks up to 1.5 TB, something about the clearances. Be sure to investigate if you want to go larger.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well designed, well built, inexpensive, and no goofy logos visible when installed

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The short depth server chassy that I bought is great for everything except hard drives - the mounting hardware sets on rubber mounts to reduce hard drive vibration, but is bonded to the case out of necessity, making it a royal pain to swap hard drives. These things are a life saver; I won't build another system without them.
