Designed to fit a standard 3.5" floppy drive bay, the CRU DataPort 25 SL removable hard drive enclosure offers a quick and easy way to access your bare 2.5" SATA HDDs. This one-drive enclosure is ruggedly crafted with stainless steel for drive protection and enhanced heat dissipation. It consists of a receiving frame that’s mounted to the floppy bay of your chassis, and a removable drive carrier to which you secure the HDD.

The DataPort 25 SL provides you with reliable performance while protecting your data, making it a great choice for government agencies, digital cinemas, and SMB organizations that need robust, high-quality, removable drive enclosures to store, transport, and protect their sensitive data. The lock prevents theft and doubles as a power switch. An eject button allows easy pop-up and removal of the carrier. Power and drive activity LEDs let you know the drive status at a glance.

  • newegg Power Keylock A lock is built in to prevent theft and accidental removal of the drive during operation. The lock also serves as a power switch. It must be engaged for the enclosure to power up and function properly.
  • newegg Eject Button An eject button makes carrier pop-up and removal a breeze. Press the "Eject" button once to release the button, and again to eject the carrier from the frame.
  • newegg Enhanced Durability The drive connectors are tested and verified for over 25,000 insertions for hassle-free long-term use.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat For Backup Drives

Pros: - metal construction, both the carrier and frame are made from stainless steal with durable plastic guides and faceplates.
- reliable connections, over 2 years with every weekday swaps and no connectivity issues.
- floppy drive size, allows you to put it into those no longer used floppy bays.
- quality guide pin aligned docking connector

Cons: - key lock can be a little finicky sometimes
- lock bar that holds drive in place on one of our frames can sometimes not engage properly requiring the carrier to be pushed in a little more.

Other Thoughts: Your SATA controller should support hot swapping for best performance. We have two drive frames and 10 carriers for a two week rotating backup scheme. The only problem we have is that Windows Server 2003 will not treat SATA drives as removable media and always seems to have a hold on some file that was copied to the drive making it difficult to cleanly dismount a drive. Mostly it's a file that is not part of our backup data so I have had no trouble swapping drives without a clean dismount. This is not an issue with the enclosure as far as I know but rather with the way Windows treats SATA drives.
