5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!!!

Pros: Excelent constructed, does exactly what it says, the ability to turn on and off drives at will is what I was looking for, you only need either two molex or two sata power connectors to make it work, the fan is mildly noisy but barely noticeable, i love this product

Cons: Yes the blue led's are far too bright but since i have a bitfenix colossus case i couldn't care less...

5 out of 5 eggsnice product

Pros: easy to install hdd or ssd, came with all things needed to set up properly best of all it is hot-swapable and raid 0,1,5,10 capable. it looks nice in my case very well built a must buy product.will never have to open my case to work or change hdd or ssd ever agin.

Cons: I HAVE SEEN NONE SO FAR IF I DO WILL UPDATE MY POST.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the price. If you are thinking about it get it you will love it. I recearched these for 2 weeks before I bought it. Bought it at a different web sight and paid 3 dollars more after shiping coast. This is a perfect sight to order from newegg rocks.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Same as earlier review, good build quality and functionality, integrated fan, good price, easy set-up. I love the fact that you can power on or off any individual HDD at any time (hot-swap works great), or, alternatively, you can turn on/off the entire unit (all three drives) with one button.

Cons: The blue LED lights (four large lighted buttons and one smaller fan indicator) are FAR too bright. I have covered them with some black tape, which unfortunately eliminates the drive access indication function of the LED-lit buttons. However, this is a small price to pay to get rid of the most annoying and distracting set of blinding blue lights I've ever had to deal with.

Other Thoughts: The reason for this update to my review is that one of my biggest gripes (the lack of spare trays to purchase) has been remedied. Now Thermaltake is selling spare trays on their website (part# PM00357-CO) for $20/ea. Of course, that means the price of the complete MAX-2533 backplane unit (w/ 3 trays included) is only six dollars more than buying just three spare trays alone. (?!?)

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Construction

Pros: This is a great 3-bay HDD enclosure. It takes up two 5.25" bays and is easy to install. It is well constructed and has performed flawlessly for me since I bought it two months ago. I have a 2TB WD Green and two 3TB 5K3000 Hitachi's in there now and have had no issues formatting and using these large HDDs in this unit.

Cons: The LED lights are way too bright for me. But now that I know I'm keeping this item I will be fixing that shortly, perhaps with a black Sharpie as another reviewer mentioned. My biggest gripe with this unit is the lack of spare trays available. Called Thermaltake support I was told that they are still waiting for inventory from Taiwan and could give no ETA on availability. Another Thermaltake rep told me via email that they have no plans to sell spare trays. Depends on who you talk to there. Since you have to use four screws to install a drive into the tray, and there are no spare trays (yet?) the "hot-swap" functionality of this unit is less useful since it isn't much easier or less time-consuming than opening your case and swapping out internal drives.

Other Thoughts: The hot-swap feature is still useful for turning on and off individual drives in the unit without the need for rebooting. I haven't used it as a boot drive selector, but it would be excellent for that, too. The plastic button on the front of the trays to open them feels flimsy, however they have not given me any problems. I love this unit -- just wish I could get some spare trays.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect tool for the job

Pros: Great product, keeps my new RAID5 drives cool even when it was performing the full sync. Works and fits great.

Cons: Only drawback was my cable bundles were not the right length so I had to add a molex extension so the 2nd cable wouldn't cause too much strain on the other cables.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best RAID/Mobile Racks For Personal Users

Pros: Works very well. I love the blue lights. Well combination construction of plastic and aluminum. With 3 drives in, gets rather weighty. I like the twist locks on the bays. They aren't sturdy enough to take a hard press to it, but they do the job of accidental pressing. It's very easy to start up and shut down the drives.

OH, and everyone has stated the fan is exceptionally noisy....it is not. It is one of the quietest fans I've dealt with...and maybe that's because I have a Zalman fan on the processor. Rather easy to install and hook up, took me about 30 minutes to mount drives, get case open and slide in and secure.

Cons: I know I said I loved the blue lights, but I have to agree with the others, they are very bright...if you have a blue power supply fan, they are about 3-4x brighter. But I am going to experiment with a permanent marker in the center of the lights to see if it lessens the brightness, since the majority of the lighting comes from the center.

This is the ONLY Con I have for this item.

Other Thoughts: If you are going RAID, make sure you do due diligence on the controller, this rack was the easiest decision I had to make in the process. I am running RAID 5 as a 4 drive Back-Up with Goodsync sycronizing all files. This Rack is truely Awesome and rather inexpensive if you don't want a NAS. Happy Modding!!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Easy installation. Hotswap drives with no problems. Works great for RAID setups.

Cons: Fan is a bit loud. LEDs are way to bright.

Other Thoughts: Works well despite having two power connectors, instead of three. I'm using it with WD Caviar Green drives. I can see a possible power issue for people using drives with a higher power draw.

3 out of 5 eggsLouder than necessary fan

Pros: Temperature not a problem for me in this chassis.

Cons: The fan is an 80mm fan, which is nice - you would expect it to be more quiet than the 60mm or 40mm fans in other drive chassis products. But I opened it up after noticing it was louder than I expected. The installed fan was brushless fan rated by it's mfg to run at 37db!
I had a Vantec stealth fan that was considerably deeper, but I wanted to use it as it is rated 20db. I cut off the back of the fan shroud, slid in the Vantec fan, put an aluminum fan cover over the blades, and then, to plug in the fan, i just scraped off the plastic component of the board-mounted fan connector, and plugged the stadard three-pin connector onto the now-bare three pins on the board. The cable was longer than it needed to be but I tucked it into some of the spare room in the shroud to the side of the jumpers. Now it is more quiet, and the drives actually run a degree cooler, even with the fan set to low.

Other Thoughts: I didn't get this to swap a bunch of drives. I just got it to fit extra drives in my case. I still haven't tested any hot-plug capabilities with it. I suppose I would buy it again, as I know how to fix my main complaint.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I use it as a switch to select the O.S. before powering up, not what they had in mind when they designed it I am sure. I got tired of sharing a drive between Linux and Windows. This allows me to leave the Windows drive off while I operate from Linux and vice versa. Now when I reinstall windows it has no effect on my Linux system. I should mention the trays; they are built to accept 2.5" or 3.5" drives, the pictures don't show a perspective of this but they have two series of screw holes machined into the bottom of the aluminum tray.

Cons: It's fan is the loudest of all the fans running in my case.

Other Thoughts: To Thermaltake: incorporate better fans in your products, it goes a long way toward customer satisfaction.
