3 out of 5 eggsNeeds Improvement

Pros: It works.

Cons: Lots. See Other Thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Where to start? First, the locking mechanism is very flimsy and I swear that every time I operate it I think I'm going to break it.

Next, it will not recognize a drive until you lock the door with the key. While it is nice to be able to enable/disable a drive just by using the key (as opposed to having to open the door or remove the drive), your drive will not be recognized until the door is key-locked. Lose a key and you're material-exiting-from-your-backside out of luck.

Finally, this thing is LOUD! I have an i7 4770, a Corsair H100i, an 6970 with an Artic Accelero Xtreme III VGA Cooler, a Blu-ray drive, an SSD, and two HDDs in two of these hot-swap bays. While I do not have a decibel meter with me, I can tell you that my system would be otherwise silent without either of these things turned-on.

The sound the internal fan makes is also annoying as heck. The front panel is worthless...I cannot read any of the info unless I am directly in front of it. But what's worse is that you cannot change anything (like fan speed), except for the threshold the alarm will sound at.

I am already looking for a replacement product, Mind you, these things work, but not suitable for a quieter environment.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat?

Pros: It shoots missiles

Cons: The missiles aren't real.

Other Thoughts: OK, I got this as one of those gifts when you buy a certain piece of hardware (a MB in this case). Bad thing was that it shipped separately from the rest of the order and tax was applied to it. However, on the main order invoice, the product price, but not the tax, was discounted. I had to write to request that the tax also be removed.

But now I am stuck with a toy that only works with iphones and ipads...neither of which I own, so I guess this is kind of a fail for offering something that is so hardware dependent.

2 out of 5 eggsHotswap? What?

Pros: On and off by locking the bay with the key.
Has a blue LCD with some indications like the temp.
Small 40mm? fan for air circulation.

Cons: Isn't a hotswap bay.
If you want to get a drive to work, you need to have the computer off while the bay is locked before booting. If you were to have the computer ON and place a drive in the bay. It won't recognize the drive.
And ummm, misleading description?

Other Thoughts: Alright to use, but useless if you want to swap drives WHILE your computer is on.

5 out of 5 eggsTough and well made

Pros: Purchased to secure my system drive - the drive bay is rubber isolated - the pin holding the drive door is huge - the lock works and also shuts the unit off when not locked - the drive door is thick not at all fragile like other units, all the internal hardware is made of stainless steel not plastic - the entire unit is made of S/steel except the face-plate and drive door.

Cons: Puny 40mm fan [EZ fix] - cant say anything about hot swap - not used for that.

Other Thoughts: this thing is well made and for the price you cant go wrong

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support 2TB hot swap

Pros: The bay is reasonably well built.

I like that the key turns the fan & LCD off, extending the life of the fan. More hot swap bays which have a lock should do it that way.

Cons: Doesn't support hot swap with a Samsung 2TB EcoGreen F4 HD204UI, using a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H and Win 7-64. The 2TB drive will be recognized if I boot with it in, but not if it's hot swapped. I've tried both the Intel and the Marvell SATA ports (Intel in RAID mode, Marvell in AHCI mode). However, a 1.5TB drive does hot swap just fine.

I'm not sure why the bay would have an effect, but other internal and external bays I've tried with this drive and motherboard work fine.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Well thought out and rugged device. Changes the way I do things. Overcomes various limitations using the aging ThermalTake BlackX portable hot dock. The Key is a bother but the design makes sense. Dock is off, fan is off unless you turn it on, saves unnecessary fan noise and drive detection. More useful than I first thought it would be, cloning, restoring images, checking new and suspect drives, etc.

Cons: None really, not a fan of the bells and whistles like the blue display, but it works correctly and looks good if you are fond of this kind of thing.

Other Thoughts: Bought another one.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect

Pros: Hot swapable drive bay installs easy and works perfect. At first I did not like the lock but as it turns out it works like an on/off switch, a drive can be left in the bay and turned on when needed

Cons: none so far

1 out of 5 eggsNOT "hot swap" capable as advertised

Pros: They look great in your case. Very "pretty".

Cons: They don't work.

Other Thoughts: Bought 6 of these for our video editing computers. None were ever "hot swap" capable. Only 1 of the 6 enclosures we bought "sort of" worked, and this was only if we rebooted Win 7 with the drive installed and "on".
