5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

Pros: Easy to slip in the mSATA drive, screw everything down, and you're ready to roll. Fits in any laptop-sized SATA bay.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Took a boot OS drive from a laptop in order to upgrade it, so this made a great portable SATA drive for me when coupled with a USB adapter and USB 3.0 speeds...

4 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: This is an update to my prior review. This StarTech product turned out NOT to be cause of any problems. I did in fact use this product in finally finding the solution to cloning to my Intel SSD. Turns out the first Intel SSD ran hot. With a replacement SSD, I was able to use this product with a USB external enclosure to copy/clone files. I now have it inside a laptop with a mSATA SSD - no problems.

Cons: In my opinion, the enclosure should have holes or some other way to allow for better hea dissipation. SSDs like the Intel 525 will run hot, and despite the manufacturer's claims, this enclosure pretty much seals the circuit board and SSD inside.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Pass through design means no compatibility problems. SATA III works without a problem. This is a solid product that does exactly what it claims to with the minimum of fuss. Chassis looks nice enough and screws are provided. Had this working in 5 minutes.

Cons: Price is a bit high for the build quality.

1 out of 5 eggsSome Like It Hot

Pros: The mSATA to SATA converter works. The enclosure does mount well into a normal 2.5" mounting.

Cons: Used as a mount for an Intel mSATA SSD that I purchased at the same time from Newegg, I have not been able to use the combination in my laptop or ultrabook. My tests/experiments point to a heat build-up. I cannot rule out the Intel SSD, which works until it gets hot. However, the design of the StarTech converter/enclosure could also be the problem.

mSATA's use less energy and supposedly put out less heat. OK, but...the StarTech enclosure simply does not provide for air circulation - heat removal. Even drilling many holes in the upper and bottom metal pieces - accepting the fact that I would not be able to return the purchase or make a warranty claim - has not helped. The SSD still overheated.

Seeing inside (via the holes I drilled) I notice that the enclosure top essentially touches the Intel SSD. I did tighten down the SSD to the max without risking damaging it, so I can't make the SSD take up any less height. There is some gap between internal circuit board and the enclosure bottom. StarTech has a spacer adhered to the bottom of the circuit board, but it seems that either it's too thick, or there needs to be a spacer adHered on the upper surface to keep the top from being too close to the SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: It does exactly what it says (a rarity these days in the world of tech)!

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: Although it is beyond the scope of reviewing this product, the only thing StarTech can do is make a tiny USB 3.0 enclosure that is just big enough to house a mSATA SSD. That would be beyond amazing because no one has one on the market at this point. Until then, I'll keep using these in standard 2.5" USB 3.0 enclosures. Either way, I'm very happy.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a 2.5 enclosure that fits msata

Pros: Does the job of converting msata to sata which I needed to dump ghost image.

Cons: Expensive just for adapter, but is an actual enclosure if you wanted to use msata drive in a laptop with 2.5" slot.

Other Thoughts: The other option Syra adapter was out of stock and I needed one ASAP. Got this one Next day Air and Newegg shipped it day I ordered which helped a lot!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the idle mSATA card/drive

Pros: Works fine, fits the mSATA drive that came out of Acer W500 problem free.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: A few months ago I replaced the 32GB mSATA SSD in my Acer W500 and when searching for an adapter I found this at another shop. Great item, worked as expected and I'm happy to see it carried at NewEgg now.
