Question 1

Does it have all the parts necessary to use hard drive in it? The reason I ask is that sometimes the plastic (or metal) encasements that hold the drive and slide in and out of the bay are not included and have to be purchases separately. Are there such separate parts that I will have to buy? Or, is it ready to use with 2.5 drives without any additional parts? Manufacturer's site does not have this info.

It's ready to just slide in 2 drives - no hardware required - there's a tab on it which you use to open the door and slide the drive in.  It comes with 2 sata cables and screws to screw in the box to a 3.5" bay.

What size bay does this unit fit in? 3.5" or 5.25"?  It does not say in the specs!

This fits the 3.5 bay your floppy drive would have gone into.

Will this enclosure work with Western Digital model# WD5000AAKS?

No .The drive bay holds two 2.5  drives in a single 3.5 drive slot. Perhaps you should get a drive bay that holds 3 3.5 driver while only taking up 2 drive spaces. This one is made for SSD drives or notebook drives (2.5)

are the latches on this thing spring-loaded?

Yes.  The action is smooth and adequate for inserting and removal.  At first, the latch seemed too delicate to overcome the resistance of drawing the installed drive out of the socket, but I quickly adapted to its use.   I concur with the favorable on-line reviews I relied upon before buying the unit. Well-engineered, good bang for the buck.

Is there an answer on if this is a SATA 3 capable device? It says 3 on newegg but the manual reportedly only states sata 1 and 2.

I have this enclosure with 2 Segate 500G SATA3 drives running in a RAID-1 configuration.

Will this fit a 2.5inch laptop drive that is 1.5cm tall (Toshiba mq01abb200 2gb drive)?

No, it won't. A 3.5" bay opening is only 25mm tall, so has room for only one - even without the bay adapter. It will fit in the StarTech single drive unit though.

how could one go about removing the 'VENUS" text from it? is it doable? it looks really stupid, and i build computers for people, so i hate things like that.

Sharpy perhaps, but remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Let the end user deal with it if they want to change it.
