5 out of 5 eggsGood Solid Prossesser

Pros: Experienced no issues at all. If your looking for an affordable quad core this one should do the trick. Overclocked 7% in bios from 2.3 to 2.46 and gained 1500 cpu score in 3dmark06.

Cons: Stock fan that comes in retail box is kinda cheesy. ran stock at 55c, 62c under load. Zalman cooler keeps it at 40c, 48c under load.

Other Thoughts: upgraded from 5200 x2 and can feel a big difference. Windows 7 64bit scores this processor at 6.9 for those who care.

4 out of 5 eggsGood CPU

Pros: Good stable CPU. Runs cool and performs well. Good low price as well, so if you want a cheap quad you can't go wrong with this chip. Using it with a "old" DFI 790FX.

Cons: Stock speed is too low. While multitasking is really good, you will suffer when running single threaded apps., specially if you're upgrading from a fast dual core already. Does not overclock that well (compared to older X2s at least).

Other Thoughts: Doesn't overclock that well, but I was expecting that when I got the chip. Most early Phenoms seems to hit a wall at 230-250MHz on the NB (mine maxes out at 235MHz so far), so without a high multiplier you won't get that far. However, recently I have been seeing guys with 9550s able to crank the NB all the way to 260-270MHz; they are using newer AMD boards with the SB750, so it's either that (supposedly that chip increases overclocking potential) or just luck on their part.
By the way, Phenoms are slightly faster clock for clock compared to X2s. This one at 2.7GHz is faster in single threaded apps. than my old X2 at 3GHz (faster SuperPi times as well, 27s compared to 29s). Paired with the increased multitasking ability and you have a much better CPU. Still, if overclocking is your thing and want to hit that magic 3.0, get yourself a BE chip instead.
