5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Chip

Pros: Fast
Handles everything from gaming to encoding video without a slowdown

Cons: Runs a little hot

Other Thoughts: AMD got this chip right when they made it. It handles everything nicely and it's easy to setup on a board of your choice!

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Stable

Comments: This is the best Socket A CPU you can buy. So I got it, I upgraded from a 2200+XP (1.8GHZ) 133FSB, and wow! Everything is about 40% faster. Stock it runs 2.2GHZ, 400FSB and mine is clocked to 2.57GHz, 466FSB, but requires a lot of hardware, voltage, and cooling. Its very fast and reliable.

My system:
AMD Barton XP 3200+ OC'ed to 2.57GHz, 466FSB 2.0 Volts (Very high) Idles at 42'C
Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPT timings: 2-3-2-2 (3338MB/s) Dual channel with heatspreader
Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 72.92 CFM (Cools very nicely)
A-Bit NF7-s Motherboard NForce 2
MGE Viper CA-VIPER-RK Red/Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply with custom SUNON KD1212PMB1-6A 120mm Ball Cooling Fan 108CFM in rear keeping case temps cool. Only 42 Decibels!
Western Digital Caviar SE Western Digital WD2500JB 250GB 7200 RPM 8M Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
7.1 Channel Sound Card with SPDIF
Lite-On 8x?x? DVD-RW
Lite-On CD-RW 52x48x12
Micro Innovations Optical mouse and Lite-On Ergonomic Keyboard
MSI Geforce FX 5900XT 128MB @ 420MHz Core, 780MHz Memory, 1.8V 99Hz. Kinda old card, but plays Doom 3, and UT2004. Scored 6100 on 3DMark03.
I was however able to OC my 2200+ up to 2.5GHz with the Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 72.92 CFM, but the cache was only 64Kb vs. 512Kb and FSB was a lot lower then this chip!
So get this chip with the Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 72.92 CFM with Arctic Silver and you can overclock this chip up about 20% with low latency ram.

All purchased from one and only NEWEGG! Very fast delivery, most orders came 1 day early from NJ to NY, very nice!

5 out of 5 eggsathlon xp last hurrah

Comments: Well what more can be said of the workhorse Athlon XP barton line? In the last upgrade to my MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum, before I go Athlon64 this fall, this chip manages to squeeze more than acceptable performance out one of the most durable chipsets of all time. Not quite up to the level of my P4 3.2 prescott but a fairly good boost over the Barton 2500 that I was using. For $140 it breathed new life into an old box. In a sign of the Barton durability I built my son a SFF box with the Barton2500 and it is still rock solid chip even after 18 months being overclocked to 2.1ghz...WOW My only complaint about this chip is that the multiplier is locked at 11 unlike my older barton but people have known this for awhile so it didn't catch me by surprise. Running at 2.34 ghz on a MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum with FSB about 220 42c on idle 46 on load even in overture case. would've like to set FSB to 210 and upped the multiplier one but its locked. It's rock-solid and fast.

5 out of 5 eggsWords can't describe how good it is

Comments: As always, AMD continues to produce products that continue to make me a continous buyer. The speed of this cpu is great compared to the price. I bought it to replace my older 1800XP and you can really notice the difference. It does get hot even with the improved AMD heatsink, but I bought a Thermaltake one instead and it runs much more cooler. Suggestion, make sure you get a good thermal compound like Artic Silver.
