Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with three 2.6GHz cores that have L1 and L2 caches for each core and 6MB of L3 cache to be shared to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.

Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 and up to 21GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3 memory controller delivers an amazing 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.

You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

  • newegg AMD64 Triple-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Triple-Core technology, three complete processor cores on a single die run at the same frequency to deliver exceptional multi-tasking power, allowing users to surge through the most demanding processing loads, including advanced multitasking, critical business productivity, complicated visual design and modeling, serious gaming, and visually stunning digital media and entertainment.
  • newegg Integrated DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM Memory Controller The AMD Phenom II X3 Triple-Core processor is integrated with DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM memory controller capable of supporting registered and ECC DRAM. The integrated memory controller changes the way the processor accesses main memory, resulting in increased bandwidth, reduced memory latencies, and enhanced processor performance.
  • newegg HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT 3.0 technology the AMD Phenom II X3 triple-Core processor enjoys 4000MHz system bus speeds.
  • newegg AMD Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology is an enhanced solution available on AMD Phenom II X3 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
  • newegg AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
  • newegg AMD CoolCore Technology AMD CoolCore Technology reduces processor energy consumption by turning off unused parts of the processor. Power can be switched on or off within a single clock cycle so that energy is saved without compromising performance.

Pros: Well worth the price paid. The processor handles most anything thrown at it. Have not had any slowdowns yet. Using windows 7 with 4 gigs of ram and it runs as if it is windows xp.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Triple core is definitely and upgrade from a dual core plus with the right motherboard you can unlock the fourth core. I love AMD.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Helps wonderfully with gaming and muti-tasking.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried OCing yet, but don't really need to. Forth core isn't really needed for anything just yet. So 3 will do me for quite awhile. For the price, you cannot pass this little guy up.

5 out of 5 eggsMINe Very overclcok ale

Pros: I was able to unlock the 4th core and then overclock it to 2.9 ghz. It has been running at the speed for about month or 432 hrs. Also did have to increase voltage to the cpu for the overclocked

Cons: Did overclock as far as my faithful q6600 which is still has performance crown in my house

5 out of 5 eggsWow. AMD struck gold here.

Pros: -fast, fast, fast
-6mb L3
-will destroy many Quads at higher prices with proper MoBo

Cons: -Stock cooler is garbage. You must factor for getting a decent one when buying this. (Zalman 9700)

Other Thoughts: Running PRIME stable 4 cores at 3.12 Ghz (240mhz x 13).
Thats a cool 59% OC. Not bad for a 100 dollars. Temps hanging out at 46C or so under PRIME95 load for 30min. Gigabyte m785g-ud3h unlocked and overclocked this chip with zero issues. Have gone higher stable, but temps get higher. (265x13 = 3.4 four cores) I want this chip for the long haul, so I will settle for the mere 59% OC. Great chip.

5 out of 5 eggsProbably the best CPU value I have ever found

Pros: With Black Editions all the rage, the 710 can be had for much cheaper than the ten buck difference here on the 'egg. Overclocks nicely & the 45nm die keeps it cool

Cons: The included aluminum, no-heatpipes cooler is less than worthless, unless I do a budget build in the near future

Other Thoughts: I picked one of these up new in the box for eighty six bucks on that popular auction site, so the price here seems a little high. If I were choosing between this and the 720, based on the prices here, I'd go with the X3 720 BE for the nicer cooler. As I mentioned in the pros, the 720 BE seems to be the X3 to get, making the demand higher & keeping the prices high. I have a few Black Edition processors and they are almost too easy to overclock, taking the fun out of it. ;) I have my 710 at 3.15GHz rock-solid stable using a Xigmatek Black Knight for cooling, which idles at 35 and stays in the high 40s at full load. Before I got this one, I bought an AM3 Phenom II X4 955 for 160 bucks and am now wishing I had just got the 720. I got a 14% overclock out of this and only an 11% overclock out of the X4, both using the same cooler and very similar case layouts. Value! The 4th core was unstable, but I don't consider that a con, just a bummer =(

5 out of 5 eggsNice!

Pros: Great processor! True multi-core technology, true triple core.

Cons: None, so far.

Other Thoughts: 4th core unlocked, but unstable. Went back to 3 and all is good. Wish that I would have gone for the 720.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the best
