Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with has 2.6GHz quad cores, L1 and L2 caches for each core, and 4MB of L3 cache to be shared to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.
Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 and up to 21GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3 memory controller delivers an amazing 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.
You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

- Pros: Blistering! Maybe it's just the improvement over my 5000+BE but this thing is unbelievably fast. And as if that weren't enough, it idles at 30c WOW! Plays GTAIV without having to borrow my 3870's processing power, and frame rates are up 30% across the board in the games I play (GTAIV, CoD:WaW, Crysis warhead, NFS Prostreet, MoH:A)
- Cons: Hasn't got the raw power of an i7, but from where I sit, how could you tell anyway? Who needs Intel anyway? Intel's are for Macs, I'M A PC AND I ROCK AN AMD!!!!
- Other Thoughts: Bought this at 6am Wednesday the 18th for 189.99 several hours later the price went up. Also purchased Asus M4A78T-E and Mushkin 4GB DDR3-1333 so far a great combination. works well with my MSI 3870 and samsung 1TB hd, PCP&C 610w p/s and lite-on 20x litescribe burner. I think I might get a 4870 and then I'll be right where I always wanted to be.
The Best Avaliable for AM3 Socket.
- Pros: Fast and Cost!
Fast quad core. Low price. AM3 compatiable socket. Easy overclocks on air to 3.32 Ghz.
- Cons: Multiplyer not unlocked.
Not 3ghz or better stock. Only 4mb cache.
- Other Thoughts: Ok I wish amd had released a socket AM3 processor with at least a 3ghz clock and the full 6mb cache.
But if u dont 2 wait, This processor Is awsome. I wanted to go with AM3 for future cpu upgrades. Very fast suprised me! Awsome overclock even wihout unlocked mutiplyer. I was able in less than 10 min to get 3.32GHz on regular air cooling. without a voltage increase just by changing the hyperthreading clock from 200 to 255. Only changed 1 setting nothin else bam u get 3.32 easy effortless on air no problem. Im sure atfter playin ill get a lot more. So if u cant wait like me this is a great cpu to get u going AM3.

Love it!
- Pros: Built this to replace my old machine which was pretty ancient. (Athlon XP2800) I don't have any desire to mess with overclocking, as long as it performs as advertised. This setup rocks!
- Cons: None that I know of in nearly a month of use.
- Other Thoughts: Setup: Phenom II X4, Gigabyte AM3 mobo, Sapphire 4830 512M DDR3 graphics cars, (2)x(1) gig gskill 1333 mem, 360gig WD SATA drive. in a Raidmax Smilodon case. Coolermaster modular 600W pwr sup.
Gets the job done and it didn't melt my credit card.. yet.
- Pros: Guaranteed quad core with L3 cache on a budget.
Clocked it to 3.408 GHz 1.375V with the full 6 MB unlocked using the Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H M-atx board you can get in a combo. Playing around a bit, and it would wake up at 3.9GHz 1.5v, and booted into windows 7 64 beta at 3.7 1.5v.
- Cons: 4 MB L3, but this can be rectified with acc settings just like the dual core to quad core.
Included heatsink/fan is weak. My oc'd setup hits 68C full load with 4 MB cache Probably more like 70C with 6MB L3. Probably still safe as it's not like it's gonna run that way for anything other than prime95, but I'd feel better it it was below 65C. Good cooler should get you 3.7GHz or so.
- Other Thoughts: Aforementioned setup with a mild oc'd 5850 nets 13,348 3Dmark Vantage; 13,924 GPU and 11,874 CPU on my setup which includes 4GB GSkill Ripjaw DDR3 1600 kit running "1520" 7,7,7,20 1.7v.
L3 Unlock works the same as the X2 550's core unlock. ACC to hybrid and auto. Can't see temps in this mode, so you wanna torture test before you unlcok and then repeat testing after the unlock.
Hmmmm
- Pros: I really wanted to use the new athlon x4's, but can't seem to pull the trigger with these at such a good price with L3 cache.
- Cons: The price of the athlon x4's
- Other Thoughts: Both the athlon x4 and this run at 95w's, I can't see only saving 20 bucks on an item that is lessor then this. I really think the L3 is worth the extra jack! Get you some! I'm using these on a 6 rig rebuild for a client. I don't need the lessor of the two at this price point! These will own for long enough! L3 for the win, get owned propus. Windows 7 won't rate these at the top of the spectrum, but propus will be further down the list for a measely 20 smackaroo's.
