Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II X4 955 streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with four 3.2GHz cores that have dedicated L1 and L2 caches for each , and 6MB of shared L3 cache to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.

Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 and up to 21GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3 memory controller delivers an amazing total of 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.

You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

  • newegg AMD64 Quad-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Quad-core technology, four complete processor cores on a single die run at the same frequency to deliver exceptional multi-tasking power, allowing users to surge through the most demanding processing loads, including advanced multitasking, critical business productivity, complicated visual design and modeling, serious gaming, and visually stunning digital media and entertainment.
  • newegg HyperTransport 3.0 Technology HyperTransport 3.0 Technology (HT 3.0) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT 3.0 technology the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Quad-Core processor enjoys 3200MHz system bus speeds.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a champ!

Pros: I thought it high time I write a review on this CPU. I bought it here on Newegg back in 2009 along with the MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 mobo and I'll be darned if these jokers aren't still running like champs! I've been contemplating upgrading, but why? I don't know, I guess I just have googly eyes for new tech, but this build along with 8gb 1600 DDR3 Ram has been running solid since that time with all kinds of gaming power. I think I have gone through 4 GPUs in the time I've owned the CPU/Mobo combo. Good stuf! I now have it on Windows 10 without issues (at least hardware issues...stupid microsoft auto-updates). Thank you AMD for a cheap solid build for cost conscience gamers!

Cons: Not a one!

Other Thoughts: Probably to late recommend buying, but great CPU if you can still get new!

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent CPU. 7 years and still running perfectly!

Pros: - High performance for AMD.
- No issues after 7 years!

Cons: - NONE!

Other Thoughts: - Insane how well and how long this processor has run. After thousands and thousands of hours playing games, this thing has never let my brother or I down. Very impressed with this CPU and would not have gotten anything else. One of the best CPU lines ever made.

5 out of 5 eggsX4 Phenom II

Pros: I have run this for over 5 years without a hitch. Started in my desktop but I upgraded that to a FX8370 Octocore, 16GB RAM and 2x250GB 850 Evo SSD's.

Going on 3 years, this powers my server paired with 16GB of RAM, 2x256GB X110 SSD's and RocketRAID card in RAID5. Server runs host OS (SLES), 2 VM's (Mint 17.2 LTSP and CentOS)and transcoding media server and much more without breaking a sweat.

Cons: None at all.

Cons: Needs a lot of power.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat if you have one

Pros: Works, still. Great hand-me-down cpu.
Is still middle ground compared to top notch cpu's today.
Will sill be useful for another 6 years.

Cons: Slow compared to top notch today.
Only 4 cores. Doesn't overclock to 4ghz, never stable beyond a few hundred MHZ OC.

Other Thoughts: I've never had a cpu fail. Though they do get useless, like my athlon xp 3000 that this BEAST replaced. This cpu did 4x and then another 4x more speed than that athlon for a total of 16 times the cpu power. I handed this cpu down to my mother for a 2012 build since it still is like 35-40% compared to todays cpu's.

5 out of 5 eggsStill running Strong

Pros: It's been almost 6 years when I bought this CPU along with a Gigabyte GA-MA790XT and 8GB Ram. It's still OC-ed to 3.6 GHZ. The Video card is the only thing that got replaced over the years, from a
GTX 275 to a GTX 660Ti. Put a 256GB SSD in it two years ago.
Paired with Antec 300 case and EVO 212 cooler, with Windows 8 and Hackintosh (Yosemite) this thing is still flies, like new. Most games on Ultra / High around 60 FPS. (Far Cry 4, Witcher 2, GTA V) It's amazing. Can't find a reason to change it, although i would love to have an excuse to dig into my PC case :-)
I think, that - since my first computer - this was the best purchase I made by far.

Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Other Thoughts: Will see how long it can keep up.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: After 4 plus years, I can't find a reason to replace this CPU. It runs Windows 8 on SSD, and for what I do which does not include gaming, it is still blisteringly fast. Websites and apps open almost instantaneously.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This processor can be had now for a song, refurbed on various websites, and would not hesitate to replace. If gaming is not a priority, there really can't be a much faster or stable chip made lately that would be worth the price difference.
