Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II X4 955 streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with four 3.2GHz cores that have dedicated L1 and L2 caches for each , and 6MB of shared L3 cache to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.

Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 and up to 21GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3 memory controller delivers an amazing total of 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.

You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

  • newegg AMD64 Quad-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Quad-core technology, four complete processor cores on a single die run at the same frequency to deliver exceptional multi-tasking power, allowing users to surge through the most demanding processing loads, including advanced multitasking, critical business productivity, complicated visual design and modeling, serious gaming, and visually stunning digital media and entertainment.
  • newegg HyperTransport 3.0 Technology HyperTransport 3.0 Technology (HT 3.0) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT 3.0 technology the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Quad-Core processor enjoys 3200MHz system bus speeds.
  • newegg AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
  • newegg AMD CoolCore Technology AMD CoolCore Technology reduces processor energy consumption by turning off unused parts of the processor. Power can be switched on or off within a single clock cycle so that energy is saved without compromising performance.
  • newegg AMD Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology is an enhanced solution available on AMD Phenom II X4 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
  • newegg Integrated DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM Memory Controller The AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core processor is integrated with DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM memory controller capable of supporting registered and ECC DRAM. The integrated memory controller changes the way the processor accesses main memory, resulting in increased bandwidth, reduced memory latencies, and enhanced processor performance.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome cpu

Pros: Currently running in my Gaming computer and works Wonders!
Can overclock to 4.1Ghz with the Asrock 970 Pro3 and the right cooler!
Runs everything I throw at it with max settings!

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: I have no clue why Newegg would discontinue this great processor.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic CPU! Does such a great job at standard clock speeds!

Pros: This thing is just doing an impressive job with my at the moment budget build! it plays Crysis2, GTA IV, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Saints Row The Third, and a bunch of other games in nearly max settings! Had I had faster ram and a beefy graphics card I could sing many praises, but even without all of that it does an impressive job. Imagine if I over clocked it!

Cons: Cannot think of a darn thing bad to say about this processor! Why would they discontinue such a great product? :(

Other Thoughts: My budget rig that will soon be a mega beast:

MOBO msi 970a-46
geforce gt 630 1gb ddr3
8gb ram
500gb hdd
raidmax z1000 case

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Bought this back in July of 2010 and its still going strong, paired it with a GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 AM3 AMD 790X and both have been flawless. I've never really been hung on Intel or AMD like some of the fanboys, I just really like a quality product and this does it for me.

Cons: I didnt buy a few more to build a 2nd rig.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU

Pros: Very competitively priced.

Great overclocker with adequate cooling.

Nice for gaming or any other general application.

Easily installed (as CPUs go.) Just drop into the ZIF socket and lock it down.

Still in daily use 3 years later, durable and strong performer.

Cons: Starting to show its age. Other than that, no complaints, I've loved this CPU.

Other Thoughts: I've upgraded GPUs twice since installing this CPU, and even now my games and applications are rarely CPU-limited.

I've just purchased a brand-new FX Vishera-octocore CPU because, let's face it, this Phenom II won't hold out against new applications forever.

I've run it overclocked at 3.6 GHz (with just a 0.0125V boost for good measure) with no problems whatsoever, never crashes or gives me any trouble. I do have a huge (Thermaltake Frio) air cooler on it, and it rarely sees the high side of 50C even when pushed hard for hours on end.

My son has an AM2+ motherboard and Phenom II 945 (non-BE,) I'll probably see if he wants to upgrade to this so he can try his hand at some easy and stable overclocking.

I'm going to miss this tried-n-true CPU once I get the FX rig up-and-running, but time and technology march on. If you have an older AMD board and want a strong, stable CPU, get this chip, if you can still find one!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Bought this back in March of 2010 on newegg. Still going strong and performing phenomenal just like the day I took it out of the box.
Runs cool, stable and very reliable.

Cons: Stock cooler runs a bit loud but its almost 3 years old and probably needs to be replaced or cleaned out real well anyway.

Other Thoughts: I can probably use this rig for another 2 years, the only thing bottlenecking performance is my old gts 250. I couldnt be happier with this cpu.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU!

Pros: I have it overclocked to 3.8 MHz with the stock cooler. Idles around 26°C and at 100% capacity ran at about 60°C for 20 hours during stress test. Fan is audible but reasonably quiet.

Cons: Phenom series has been discontinued.

Other Thoughts: I would recomend this to anyone who is considering buying this either used or new from another seller.
