Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II X4 955 streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with four 3.2GHz cores that have dedicated L1 and L2 caches for each , and 6MB of shared L3 cache to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.
Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 and up to 21GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR3 memory controller delivers an amazing total of 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.
You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

Some things you should know!
- Pros: 1) I do not own this processor and may never own it, but there is some information I wish to pass along to correct some fallacies.
2) If your processor is shown to be running at anything beneath 3.2Ghz, this is due to what is called 'throttling' for the sake of power consumption. When your processor runs at 1.6Ghz or 800Mhz, it is conserving power when you are not utilizing it's full potential. This called "AMD Cool N Quiet" (revision 3.0), it reduces voltage (power) while sacrificing some processing power (Mhz/Ghz) temporarily whilst you are not stressing your CPU. To test this, open CPU-z, run a benchmark (Prime95, 3DMark, etc.) while watching clock speed. It will increase. To remove CnQ, open your BIOS setup menu and look for the option to disable it. 3) If your motherboard POSTs once then does not POST again, it is likely a CMOS Checksum error (a problem with configurations in your BIOS). Check voltages/timings to ensure accuracy (you will need to clear CMOS reset BIOS to do this
- Cons: Read your motherboard manual to learn more about the interdependence of your motherboard and your CPU (and other components). You should be able to reset your CMOS and based on what motherboard you have, the procedures differ. Some require you to short two headers, move jumpers, remove the battery, while others require you to push a single button to reset the CMOS.
- Other Thoughts: If you have any problems or need help, please visit EggXpert.com and ask your question rather than rating a very capable and powerful processor poorly.
Fast much?
- Pros: Fastest processor ever know to man, jeez. On stock clock, it kills any thing you throw at it, but wait til' ya oc it to 4.3 GHZ WHOO DOGGIES! Makes ya want to give AMD a thousand dollar tip, lol. Man, thing oc's like a beast, I have the CM Rifle fan hooked up, running 24C at 4.3. Incredible. Forget what anyone said about AMD sucks, this will pee on any Intel you throw at it. And $1000 cheaper to a comparable one too. Crysis, 1900 maxed out with 4890, R-Factor maxed out 1900 with the 4890
- Cons: None. Simply the best CPU out there today.
- Other Thoughts: My first build was with a AMD K2. Bought AMD CPU since then, been in each of my 6 builds. And it's not because I happened to. It's because AMD makes a great product. Hook it up with the Radeon 4890, and you have a machine capable of murder, homicide, and any other felony you wish to commit in the comfort of your rolling chair, lol. Everyone gamer in the U.S should buy this CPU. My 7th, and maybe the greatest I've got from em' Just buy the daggone thing, would ya? AMD FOR THE WIN! Nuff said

WOW
- Pros: This thing is FAST. How much more do you need?!? I play many games and lag is never a problem. I have no problem with the fan that came with it. Runs about 38C-48C max. Also have a antec 300 illusion. This processor is magnifico. For the price why pay so much more for the 3.4ghz?
- Cons: none so far.
AMAZING!
- Pros: Fast!!!, idles at 30 c with cooler master n520, max around 42!!! GET IT NOW!!
- Cons: none at all!!!
AMD 955 all you need
- Pros: I've been building systems for 20+ years. The only real difference between AMD and Intel's Quad processors is price. In any real world application you will see/feel no real performance increase. We've built both Intel i7 9XX's and AMD 9XX's. If the systems are configured with similar specs (RAM, HD, Video and chip sets) the difference is just not there.
Now the benchmarks are varied in their opinions! Either cpu can win one or the other!
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money on Intel! The real-time feel difference is just not there.
