Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with 3.0GHz quad cores, each of which has L1 and L2 caches. An additional 6MB of L3 cache is available to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.

Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 delivers an amazing 33.1GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.

You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

  • newegg AMD64 Quad-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Quad-Core technology, four complete processor cores on a single die run at the same frequency to deliver exceptional multi-tasking power, allowing users to surge through the most demanding processing loads, including advanced multitasking, critical business productivity, complicated visual design and modeling, serious gaming, and visually stunning digital media and entertainment.
  • newegg Integrated DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM Memory Controller The AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core processor is integrated with DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM memory controller capable of supporting registered and ECC DRAM. The integrated memory controller changes the way the processor accesses main memory, resulting in increased bandwidth, reduced memory latencies, and enhanced processor performance.
  • newegg HyperTransport 3.0 Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT 3.0 technology the AMD Phenom II X4 quad-Core processor enjoys 4000MHz system bus speeds.
  • newegg AMD Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology is an enhanced solution available on AMD Phenom II X4 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
  • newegg AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
  • newegg AMD CoolCore Technology AMD CoolCore Technology reduces processor energy consumption by turning off unused parts of the processor. Power can be switched on or off within a single clock cycle so that energy is saved without compromising performance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Where do I start? I upgraded from a Athlon X2 5400+ for my ASRock A770DE+ board. Upped my rating on CPU and RAM to 7.3, lowest rating on my system is my HD @ 5.9. Rips through all of my games as best as possible, my HD3870 is still holding me back. Running with the Rocketfish CPU Cooler RF-UPCUWR, 22*C idle up to 35*C full load!

Cons: Seriously...why is the block here?

Other Thoughts: Antec DF-85 case
Phenom II X4 945 @ 3.0GHz
ASRock A770DE+
4GB OCZ Blade DDR2 800
Visiontek HD3870 512 OC (Soon to be Sapphire HD6870)
Ultra X3 600watt PSU
WD 250GB OS/Data drive
WD 400GB Misc drive

Not the best rig out there but she gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggsAMD Phenom II CPU reliable

Pros: Fast, relaible, manageable heat transfer

Cons: Price, at the time I bought this CPU it was at the end of it's Cycle, now I see it is out of stock and discontinued, I wish they would allow chips like this to continue to be sold for th elower end markets and set a price that new builders can afford.

Other Thoughts: I use this as my day-to-day chip on my main PC, the entire rig only cost me $600 to cuild inluding the $99 fee to Microsoft for using their OS.

5 out of 5 eggsA great chip, especially with the current prices

Pros: I baught this chip back when it was over $200, and it has been able to handle every game i have thrown at it so far. It has been pared with a Radeon 4850 and a gtx460, and with both i have had a good experience gaming so far.

Cons: Not a Black eddition? From what i have seen, this chip is the same as the 940, except that it supports AM3. I hate that you have to trade off AM3 in return for a BE chip at this speed.

Other Thoughts: I have done several builds with this chip, media systems, gaming systems, and even a couple servers, and it has yet to let me down. I would recommend this chip to anyone, unless they want to spend more on something more powerful
