Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom II streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies with 3.1GHz dual cores, each of which has L1 and L2 caches. An additional 6MB of L3 cache is available to handle really heavy loads or large data sets.
Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Up to 17.1GB/s memory bandwidth for DDR2 delivers an amazing 37GB/s of processor-to-system bandwidth. This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores.
You'd think that all of this power would be too hot to handle. Think again. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates.

More than meets the eye...
- Pros: Very impressive. You can't really beat it. It's $100! I didn't unlock all four cores because it's not really necessary even when I do video rendering, but instead I just overclocked it to 3.9GHz and got it stable on air. I downgrade from the Phenom X4 9850 and I'm actually starting to ask myself if I really did downgrade. Hmmm, perhaps not...
- Cons: Where do I start? Hmmm, so many bad things that I CAN'T say about this CPU. Mainly because there are no cons! I love it! It was delivered in TWO days! Can you believe that?! Simply amazing...
- Other Thoughts: I think there should've been a Transformer in the "Revenge of the Fallen" movie named "Callisto". That would've been sick. A Transformer running on an AMD heart! His form, what else? A Dragon that breathes out scorching overclocked fire!!!! LoL!
Amazing
- Pros: Fast and cool. Running mine at 3.8ghz, 1.4v on a NVIDIA 8300 motherboard with a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme. Under full load, it hits a whopping 40c. Cool n' Quiet still works too, meaning it goes from 800mhz 1.0v, to 3.8ghz 1.4v with no issues.
- Cons: No amount of extra voltage seems to help it get to 4.0ghz, but that's pretty normal for these cores. I'm still happy with 3.8ghz.
- Other Thoughts: Because the setup is so flexible and I'm able to run my RAM faster, it actually beats out my Core 2 Duo E8400 at 3.6ghz in Cinebench rendering, among other things.

Great CPU at a Great price!!!!
- Pros: Great CPU, great speed, very stable overclocking, great price!!!
- Cons: NONE WHAT-SO-EVER!!!!!!
- Other Thoughts: No all four cores yet!!! But I don't care, very very very fast and what a great value, if your a gamer on a budget like me, this is a no brainer.
a good little processor
- Pros: Cheap. I had to buy a Phenom II because I upgraded to an AM3 mobo (Asus M4A79T Deluxe) and also had to upgrade to DD3 Memory (4GB of GSkill running at 1640Mhz) and this processor was just to tide me over until I got a 965BE. I've had it running at ~3.22 Ghz for the longest time and its never had a hiccup, runs pretty cool but I have a zalman 9700 lapped to it.
- Cons: its not a 965BE
- Other Thoughts: Lapping doesn't involve sand paper at any step in the process.
AMAZING
- Pros: Unlocked to 4 cores right out of the box with MSI 790GX-G65 with one change in the BIOS (Luckily the Motherboard shipped with BIOS Version 1.4). Now running 3.1ghz x 4 cores at 32 degrees celsius under load with air cooling using OEM heatsink/fan. Plenty of room to overclock, but no need to right now, the system blazes. Newegg shipping is great.
- Cons: None that I can think of.
- Other Thoughts: If you're looking to unlock this processor to 4 cores, realize that you may be lucky enough to get a processor that you can do this with. There is a batch of 550's that reportedly are not able to be unlocked. Also, research your choice in motherboards before buying one as not all AM3 motherboards support ACC/ core unlocking.
