Throw another day’s work on the "done" pile. The Athlon II X2 250 makes it easy. With 2 3.0GHz cores that have their own 1MB cache, you have the power to do anything you like. HyperTransport technology boosts system performance by giving each core a dedicated cache of memory and reducing I/O bottlenecks by increasing bandwidth and reducing latency.
The 64-bit design will keep you going well into the future. The AMD64 technology is compatible with existing software and enables a seamless transition to the 64-bit applications of the future. This technology allows end users to take advantage of real-time encryption, more life-like games, accurate speech interfaces, cinema-quality graphic effects, and easy-to-use video and audio editing.
If you're going to use this processor at home, it can be the basis of a media center with AMD Live! technology. This new feature from AMD will turn your PC into an entertainment platform second to none. Watch videos or TV in one room while streaming music into another. Your system will become a true media center with music, movies, and photos all organized and able to be shared amongst all of your connected equipment.

About Regor and Calisto
- Pros: Great CPU upgrade from any previous 65nm AM2+ Athlon X2 model. Also supports AM3 and DDR3. This is the best dual-core of any dual-core AMD offerings today. See other thoughts.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: For people that are complaining about pricing and comparing Regor 250 to Calisto 500/550. Unlike Calisto (which is still the same Deneb with manufacturing defects and 2 cores disabled) Regor is a completely new die also based on Deneb revision of K10 but with cache optimized for dual-core use and only has two cores in a die. It has no L3 because it does not justify itself to be implemented for only two cores. Regor 250 is 0 to 5% max slower in all real world applications than Calisto 500 BUT it is also rated with 15W less TDP. Regor and Calisto are two different chips. It all depends on the application. If you need a server that will always be running, there is no justification to spend extra $15 on Calisto 550 plus you will be saving on electric bill. Most systems spend most of their life idle and Regor uses less power when idle compared to Calisto.
Updated to my Review
- Pros: I've managed to get 3.7ghz overclock with this processor. However I think I can get higher, if I'm able to downclock the NB frequency. It is well over 2500mhz, which is why I can't hit 3.8ghz.
- Cons: As mention earlier, NO Black Edition processors planned for all Athlon II line.
- Other Thoughts: First of all STOP with the "buy the 550BE instead". Go spam the Intel E8X00 processors and see the kind of reaction you get there.
There are reasons why a person would buy this, low wattage and low voltage. Strict budget, means that compromising on the CPU will get a tier upgrade on the GPU.

Great Value
- Pros: Runs VERY cool, even with stock cooler. Fast for my applications at work; no CAD here of course. Easy install, thermal paste already on cooler; no need to change that. PC Wizard shows cores at 19 - 23 C!
- Cons: None at all, just know what you are buying and don't whine if you don't.
- Other Thoughts: AMD still provides great value and easy installation. Happy with AMD all this year.
Great value!
- Pros: While the overall performance increase from the original Athlon x2 line doesn't feel all that more, it's still good to know that this was:
1) Very cheap 2) Great price/performance ratio 3) Highly overclockable - I have mine at 3.6 GHz and running nice and stable 4) Extremely efficient power usage
Main aim is experimenting with servering and playing games (but of course!). No current game really makes quad-cores a must except maybe GTA4 and Crysis, but they run great on dual-cores quite nicely anyways. Other reasons for a quad such as media, rendering, etc I'm not really into, so I don't need the power yet, though I can see myself getting into such activities at some point. If I haven't gotten a quad by then, I'm sure the Athlon II 250 would handle it just fine.
- Cons: None really.
- Other Thoughts: Very good chip for an HTPC or entry gaming computer that is easy on the wallet yet more than ready for upgrading whenever you feel like it such as in my machine. Plays all my games quite wonderfully though I'm more GPU limited in newer games like Crysis with my Radeon 4670 1 GB. If you want to be really cheap or just don't really need a quad-core, this is a great CPU for the money and efficient to boot. While I built my computer on the cheap, I had upgrading in mind, hence I went AM3. At this point using AM2+ is just shooting yourself in the foot unless you're REALLY on a tight budget. My specific gaming aim was run some older titles at 1080p maxed details when paired with a Radeon 4670, and it + the Athlon II 250 work great for BF2, FEAR, Call of Duty 4 in Windows XP at 1080p resolution.
My system: AMD Athlon II x2 250 OCed @ 3.6 GHz Gigabyte Radeon 4670 1 GB DDR3 MSI 770-C45 Mobo G. Skill 2 x 1 GB DDR3-1333 160 GB HDD Windows XP SP3 Raidmax 630W PSU Raidmax Smilodon C
Awesome!
- Pros: Easy to install, works fast.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: What more to say? Good price, good speed. Winner.
