2 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Got it pretty quickly??

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: proc was DOA. 2 different local dealers saying that there have been lots of bad product hitting the market lately from AMD as they have seena spike in RMA's lately as well. Hopefully not a long term trend, as the price point is right, but meaningless if there are truly lots of DOA's.

5 out of 5 eggsPlenty fast

Pros: Plenty fast for pretty much anybody. Programs load noticeably faster, games run much much better.

Cons: Generates a lot of heat which causes the stock fan to spin at louder levels. Not as loud as some reviews claim it to be, but it does have a slightly irritating whine.

Other Thoughts: My old Phenom 2 X4 810 processor was pretty much the sweet spot for Windows 7. This new 965 processor doesn't make Windows 7 seem much quicker, but once you start putting stress on it like games and encoding, you will notice a huge difference.

4 out of 5 eggsNice CPU / Terrible Cooling Fan

Pros: It's a wonderful CPU, that pretty much can take whatever I throw at it, Heck I've sometimes forgotten that I am running one of my games in the background and start up another game, or maybe a couple more games, as well as have I.E. 8.0 open with maybe 10 to 20 tabs, and some copies of Open Office with some spreadsheets and or some long letters etc. The point being that for (*me*) and my lifestyle this CPU is fantastic, it shows no signs of slowing down when I've got a huge amount of programs and or games open at the same time.

Cons: Cons are huge if your hearing is sensitive. The stock cooling fan is absolutely awful when it comes to noise. The computer will often run the stock cooling fan up there at over 5,000 rpm at which point this thing really starts to hurt my ears it's so loud. I have to open up a program from MSI (the manufacturer of the motherboard that I use) so that I can turn down the fan speed to around 3500 which then produces a more reaonable listening level.

It's a great CPU, but do yourself a favor and find a great heatsink and fan to go with it.

5 out of 5 eggsCan you say fast?

Pros: Fast with high graphic capabilities. I have 16 gig of 1600mgz frequency ram so when I start up most programs they load almost instant and the ones that do not take much shorter time to load. Out of this the cooling fan is quiet and keeps the processor in the 44 degree range.

Cons: You will have trouble with finding 64 bit drivers for components and video cards when you use Windows 7 with this. But you can always download those from the manufacturer's websites.

Other Thoughts: Do make sure you align the arrow on your chip to the arrow in the socket. These do have semetrical pins.

5 out of 5 eggsA novice gamer

Pros: The main problem I had in reviewing this cpu is what tasks I give to it. Mostly I am interested in gaming however most current games are optimized for dual core processors. With that in mind it is very difficult for me to give it an accurate review. Is it fast for me? Absolutely but I have little idea of how it will scale...

Also:

-L3 cache
-3.4 gHz core speed
-quad core
-price

Cons: As mentioned above hardly anything seems optimized for quad core. Another thing to think about is the fact that intel's is on the cutting edge NOT amd. If you want absolute performance (triple channel ram is amazing) you would be better off with intel, if you can afford it.

Other Thoughts: Maybe my review comes off as a little wishy washy but I do think this chip is awesome, no problems at all with it.

5 out of 5 eggs4Ghz 1055t $17 more....

Pros: Great CPU I'm sure...

Cons: You can get a Phenom II 1055t for ~$199...

Other Thoughts: My 1055t is running at 4Ghz
Coolermaster 212 ($30)
1.45v, 287*14, "turbo" off

I'm sure it could go higher if pushed...i just set it at 4Ghz and never had a crash at 1.45v on Prime95 or Cinebench 11.5 (scores at 7.13 btw:) or anything else for that matter.

Chip scores a 7.7 W.E.I for $199...

Just food for thought

5 out of 5 eggsSick puppy!

Pros: Fastest processor I've ever played with in AMD's lineup. Yet to get a hold of an X6 so this remains to be true. 140w gives you lots of room to play.

Cons: 140w can heat your home, which could be a pro in the winter.

Other Thoughts: Pick up an ARCTIC COOLING ACALP64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler to go along with this chip. Great combo.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for stock speeds

Pros: Great for running at stock speeds! Runs very cool at stock speeds!! Great cpu!!

Cons: When i tried overclocking this Cpu it ran very hot. Even with a coolermaster V8! So i sold it to my uncle who is running a Hyperv Server with three AMD chips in it and bought the new Six core 1090t! It overclocks very well!

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang For Buck$

Pros: -Runs Quiet
-Very Powerfull
-Best per dollar value

Cons: None
(technically 10-12% slower than "other>brand" but for what u would spend on just their high end CPU you could build a 2nd rig)

Other Thoughts: I went for a budget Build and this was perfect choice.
