5 out of 5 eggsWhat a badboy!

Pros: This processor is a beast considering its release date. Runs smoothly on most games.

Cons: Struggles when zoomed in on new cpu demanding games like Rome 2.

5 out of 5 eggsStill usefull in 2014

Pros: I have been running the Phenom II series of processors for a few years not.

clocks to 4ghz (my other one is at 4.2 with water)

Performance on par with overclocked core two intel chips and sometimes on par with 1st gen i7 cpus.

Cons: Consumes a good amount of power and will run hot if not cooled well.

Other Thoughts: I just used some benchmarks on my 4.2ghz system to compare against AMDs newest FX chips (overclocked) and their newest APUS. My phenom beats all the APUs easily and most of the 4 and 6 core FX chips. The 8 core chip can beat me only in threaded applications. The FX chips still have a lower IPC than the Phenom II.

Ive been looking for a reason to upgrade and I simply cant find one. For a chip so old it is still very competitive with all of AMD's offerings. The newest intel i3 cannot touch it. Only the intel i5 and i7 processors can bring the heat and they still cost twice to triple as much.

I have an AM3+ board so I am waiting and hopping AMD will drop another CPU into this socket. It does not look like they will and I will most likely grab the highest clocked 8 core offering they have and overclock it in my water loop. That is my only option if I want an "upgrade" without having to switch to intel (and buyer another board)

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost 2 years

Pros: -Runs great has a full 2 year use from what I can give.

-Can almost compete with next gen processors

-Price for 3.4 GHz is an outstanding price

-Runs all games with great fps

-I can guarantee 2 years with this processor if you take really good care of your machine.

Cons: With next gen processors I would mainly suggest this if you can't pull out the extra $90 for the Vishera 8-core 4.0 GHz processor. The reason for this is because with today top end motherboards are limited unless you use a top end processor it is compatible with just to get the most out of your machine.

Other Thoughts: I used this processor with my build of the Asus Sabertooth 990FX Version 1 which is no longer in the markets. R2.0 can support this Processor and have extra hardware and software compared to it's older sibling. I do have to say it was a great run with this processor while it lasted but I will be upgrading to the Vishera very soon.

5 out of 5 eggsYou missed out.

Pros: I've been running this for just over a year now, after picking it up for under $100. Amazing chip.

Cons: Stock cooler is not really sufficient to keep this cool under load. AMD states max temp is 62c, With stock cooler, I was seeing high 50s when under load.

5 out of 5 eggsWHAT A CPU

Pros: I bought this CPU in 6/2011. I do a lot of 3d modeling as well as a lot of gaming, and the computer runs BOINC when it is idle. It has been running non stop since it was assembled except for One hard drive swap. Almost four years and its still running cool and efficiently.

Cons: Can't think of any. Far surpassed my AMDK6, K7, 739, and 939.

Other Thoughts: I'm getting ready for the transition to the FM1 I hope it live up to my expectations.

5 out of 5 eggshnghhh

Pros: Fast. Reliable. Cheap. Overclocks like a beast. Slapped a 212 Evo on it and pumped it to 4GHz.

Cons: lol

Other Thoughts: The Vishera series seems to be doing a good job at taking this processor's place, but wow this thing was a great deal.

5 out of 5 eggsBeware the thermal paste

Pros: This thing is fast, and very cost effective if you're looking. I got this card 2 years and it's still on par with a lot of what's out there today.

Cons: This is why I came here to write the review!!! About a year in I started getting random blue screens, I would suggest scraping off their thermal paste and putting some on yourself, after I replaced the thermal paste on my heat sink then my computer stopped with the blue screens. This is not worth taking an egg off for since it was an easy fix.

Other Thoughts: This is the same exact chip as a 955, only this one is OC'd. Be aware of that, but for me the 965 was cheaper than the 955 so it was an obvious choice.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeds Expectations

Pros: Speed
Stability
Overclockability
Price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Got this Q1 2011 and it is still taking whatever I throw at it. Ability to overclock 4GHz+. I'm replacing my video card pretty soon (MSI Radeon 6870 Twin Frozr) but won't expect this processor to be the bottleneck of my PC for some time.
