Enabling dual core desktop computing and featuring two processor cores each operating at 2.0GHz with a 512KB (1MB in total) L2 Cache, the Dual-Core AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket AM2 processor can perform calculations on two streams of data at the same time for greater efficiency and speed while running multiple programs and the new generation of multi-threaded software. A new 65w thermal power design saves more power than ever before and generates less heat.

The new Socket AM2 from AMD is designed to enable next-generation platform innovations such as AMD Virtualization and high-performance, unbuffered DDR2 memory (supporting up to DDR2 800) to the award-winning AMD64 architecture. Other advanced features include support for 3DNow! This adept processor is designed for people who want to stay at the forefront of technology and for those who depend on their PCs to keep them connected, informed, and entertained.

  • newegg AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
  • newegg HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency and point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT technology the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ AM2 processor enjoys up to 2000MHz system bus speeds and delivers a maximum of 8GB/s I/O bandwidth and 20.8GB/s processor-to-system bandwidth.
  • newegg CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
  • newegg Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are enabled with Enhanced Virus Protection. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, then viruses are flushed from system memory.
  • newegg AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.

4 out of 5 eggsNothing special..but big on bang for the buck

Pros: Cheap and effective.

Cons: Not my bag. I would go for a 2.4 or 2.6x2..but if your resources are limited this will suffice.

Other Thoughts: Good for the money. In fair comparison its on par with the 3800 orleans with a little more oomph. You can run your antivirus without bogging down.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat processor

Pros: hah bought this processor back when it was 140 dollars. It's still running strong and it at the time was freaking awesome. Now I'm going to get the 6000 3.0 ghz so i can get an 8800 before UT3 comes out...

Cons: none.. wish it was this price a year ago!

5 out of 5 eggsNo worries mate !

Pros: Affordable, reliable, fast, efficient.

Cons: Unless your an early adopter, who has to one-up on every level.......NONE !

Other Thoughts: I've used AMD for every original build I've ever done. I don't buy because everyone else does, I buy because it feels right to me.......Not to mention my wallet.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: For 2.0 GHz, It's really fast. I use it for my gaming server, but I have played games with it, CS:S, Halo, Halo 2, and even FSX run very smoothly, though FSX runs with minor flaws, but that can be expected since the game is VERY demanding. The stock fan keeps it about 30 degrees celsius under FULL load, and i can't even hear the fan. The PC that it is in runs 24/7, and if I stick my hand inside the case, it feels as though it were air conditioned, and I only have 1 case fan.

Cons: Normally, if this were Intel, i'd say the thermal grease, but I figured i'd give the AMD stock one a try, and I haven't had any problems yet!

Other Thoughts: Better than the Intel Core 2 Duo, for performance and price.

5 out of 5 eggsYikes!

Pros: Price, Performance, Power Consumption. Stock cooler is quiet and effective. Low power consumption allows building a quiet PC without expensive low noise parts. Dual cores k--k b--t!

Cons: Uses 50% more power than the (50% more expensive) BE-2350. It ain't free....

Other Thoughts: Bought this to upgrade my wife's Athlon XP 1800 system. Runs 30 - 40 degrees idle/load (stock fan). With cpu fan speed control and a quiet power supply, the loudest sound in the room is the ticking of a battery operated clock! DVD transcoding went from 1hr 20min to 6 min! Yikes! No wonder the HTPC folks love this processor! Fast, low power (quiet), reasonably priced. System: Jetway M2GT3PTD, 2x512mb Patriot ddr2 800, Seagate 160gb PATA hd, LG GSA-H54NK, LG GDR-H30NK.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Fantastic processor, runs at 25C on boot, and 32C at full load. I have run two HD movies, ripped a DVD(it took 47min to rip lord of the rings)
and imported movies into Movie Maker, and it can handle more. no slow downs to my knowledge.

Cons: none (overclocked to 2.5 and had some trip ups, but thats my fault)

Other Thoughts: this processor runs great with the T-Force 7050, great mobo

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a difference a year makes

Pros: Had this just over a year. After the dual core update, ran stuff like smoke and mirrors. Akin to magic after my upgrade from single cores in 06, it is now, sadly, quite dated as earlier posters have stated. I paid over 4 times its current price a year ago, sufficient to buy TWO 6000s at current pricing- but I am still very happy with what it has and will still do. Nearly indestructible. Newegg choice, delivery, support- all priceless.

Cons: Well, the price a year ago hardly seems a fair con. Its not a 6000.

Other Thoughts: I own 5 AMD cpus still in working machines. They are all abused and still keep ticking. Have another 12 or so at work I either built or had friends build and only reason to change any of them would be because they just became outdated. 5 years or more on average of heavy use. If you are new to dual core, make sure you get the AMD dual core update or stuff will act screwy! Getting a couple of 6ks this time. Newegg as always rocks, but watch your trust of posts here and do your own research.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheaper than cheap (I regret buying it before the price drop).

Cons: Lift weights or get a strong friend before trying to latch the retention system. Already an outdated processor. I would pay the extra for a 6000+ without hesitation.
