Well worth the extra money

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Highest clocked Windsor available at a comfortable price, and the highest clocked Windsor that doesn't have a TDP of 125W (that's the 6000+). Furthermore, at 2.8GHz the 5600+ has an even clock divider so the RAM runs at full DDR2-800 (6000 and 5200 don't).
Cons: AMD cheaped out on the heatsink. Just your generic all-aluminum heatsink with an equally-generic fan on top. Doesn't befit a processor with a TDP of 89W. Attachment to the board took a lot of effort and time and forced me to worry about possibly breaking the motherboard from all that stress.

AMD Rules!!

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Popped right into my Foxconn C51 590 SLI and works like a beast. With my 8800GTS I run any game or any program without a single hiccup! Run HL2 at max settings, 16x AA, 16x Filtering and still pull 140+FPS. So fast that my brand new LCD cant even keep up with the frames and I get frame tearing!! (LCD's are 60hz at max res). L2 2x1MB is great!
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Dont OC this CPU, it is fast enough for now and since its 2.8Ghz is runs memory at full speed 800Mhz, without messing with the multiplier. Near future AMD CPU's (AM2+, mabey even AM3) should be compatible with nForce 590 mobos after a quick BIOS update! 5600 is 89W compared to the SLIGHTLY faster 6000 which is smoking 125W! This is the AMD CPU to get as of now!

Pros: dual core 2.81ghz. pretty fast. much faster than my old dual core 2.0ghz. my dumb mb didnt have a retention bracket on it so i had to use my 3 year old heatsink made for a 2ghz dual core and it works pretty good. only got to 59c with linpack, good considering the old hs im using
Cons: none

Sweet CPU

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Paired this with an arctic cooler 64 and so far this thing has been a real workhorse for almost 2 years. OC'd at 3.0, it Idles 32c, load never higher than 46c and that's in a SLI setup with only 2 case fans in a 76f room. Feels plenty snappy with Vista.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Got this processor now running with 2 overclocked 260 gtx 216 in sli and it does exceptionally well. I am running all my games at 2560x1600 2x-8xAA everything maxed with great frames. It keeps just about all my games averaging around 60-80fps so that's pretty cool considering how old school this thing is now. Only games I own that it chokes on a little is Far Cry 2 and kinda Quake Wars, but UT3, COD2, COD4, COD5, L4D, FEAR, FEAR 2, Crysis, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Gears of War, BF2, BF2142, CS:source, R6V2, TF2, all run flawlessly. Sure a fancy quad and DDR3 would be nice, but this processor is more than enough for any gaming rig with the majority of today's games IMO and I see no reason to upgrade any time soon. I have been really impressed with AMD and use them exclusively now. You just can't beat the price, reliability, and performance. I probably wouldn't build a new system with this processor unless I was totally broke, but it sure would be a really good upgrade if your stuck wit AM2.

Great cheap CPU

Pros: It worked out of the box. It's a cheap X2. The stock cooler is easy to install, and works awesome. Idle Temps on first boot were around 31c. Haven't performed a burn in yet but I like where it's going. Granted my case has what some would call excessive cooling, Ambient room temp is never above 60f and with 290 cfm's 2 110 cfm's and a 42 cfm fan It probably won't get much hotter once it's burned in. I wouldn't play crysis on full settings with this, but it sure makes Web editing a breeze.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Don't eat the stock thermal pad, tastes yucky!

Highlights

newegg AMD64 Dual-core Technology
AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
newegg HyperTransport Technology
HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency and point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems and networking and telecommunications equipment. HyperTransport Technology in the Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Socket AM2 processor enables the speed of system bus up to 2000MHz and delivers up to 8GB/s I/O bandwidth and up to 20.8GB/s processor-to-system bandwidth.
newegg Enhanced Virus Protection
All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
newegg CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet Technology
AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
newegg AMD Virtualization
Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
