AMD's Athlon 64 4000+ is a great way to enter the world of 64bit computing. Since it fits in the advanced Socket AM2 you can easily upgrade as you needs increase. The 2.6GHz processor is a great choice for a basic home or office computer.

HyperTransport technology increases system performance by giving each core a dedicated cache of memory and reducing I/O bottlenecks by increasing bandwidth and reducing latency.

The AMD64 technology is compatible with existing software and enables a seamless transition to the 64-bit applications of the future. This technology allows end users to take advantage of new innovations such as real-time encryption, more life-like games, accurate speech interfaces, cinema-quality graphic effects, and easy-to-use video and audio editing.

  • newegg AMD64 Technology AMD64 technology is designed to enable simultaneous 32 and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Direct Connect Architecture, AMD64 processors address and help eliminate the real challenges and bottlenecks of system architectures because everything is directly connected to the central processing unit.
  • newegg HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency and point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems and networking and telecommunications equipment. HyperTransport Technology in the Athlon 64 4000+ processor enables the speed of system bus up to 2000MHz.
  • newegg Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
  • newegg CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother wonderful Athlon

Pros: Like every other AMD processor I've had, this one just plugged in and worked as it should right from the first boot up. Comes with a capable and nicely finished HSF which I chose not to use as I had a new heat pipe unit on hand just waiting for an excuse to apply it. Seems to run very coolly. Very inexpensive for the performance I got.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've been an AMD processor user since the 80386 days and see no need to change.

5 out of 5 eggs2nd best single core out there

Pros: CHEAP!!! Runs cool and gets the job done.

Cons: Low L2 cache.

Other Thoughts: At stock speed this is the second best single core out there. I overclocked it to 3Ghz a month ago and my computer has not crashed.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid single core choice

Pros: Decent sized and designed heatsink & fan keep the cpu running under 40C under load at 2.6ghz. CPU fan is pretty quiet. Pre-applied thermal compound keeps from wasting money on those over priced tiny tubes of thermal material.

Cons: Just the fact that it is a single core processor.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great processor, best you can get for a single core, reason i got a single core is for gameing becuase i think a duel core is pointless untill a lot more games start needing one

Cons: None works like a dream

Other Thoughts: Newegg shiped in within a timely maner and everything worked upon arival
