5 out of 5 eggsWorks in Linux

Pros: Linux doesn't gack on it, and neither does Windows

Cons: Does not taste like a potato chip

Other Thoughts: ...Well, just kidding about the flavor. =D Works fast, and despite all the rage about Intel, I've always been happy with these guys.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck at <$90 for 4 cores.

Pros: It's great. Handles all my computing like a pro.
HD video and other things, are no problem.
Great value at (the time of this writing) $74.99 for 4 cores.
For gamers on a tight budget (and I mean really tight) this is great.
Most games I've run so far such as Counter-Strike:GO, Dishonored, Sims 3, League of Legends, Crysis, and some others are set to High-med settings paired with an older ATI Radeon HD 4770 512MB.
Overall pretty good.

Cons: I've yet to run into anything, but the stock fan is a bit noisy. Not too bad, but it's a little noticeable to hear.

Other Thoughts: If you have around $20 extra to fork over, you might want to pick up the AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition. If not, then this is just fine. Maybe pair it with a better graphics card than what I have.

My build (~$350)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 @ 3.0 GHz
Mobo: ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 7200rpm
GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4770 512 MB
Case: NZXT Gamma Classic series

4 out of 5 eggsa few more years

Pros: Great bang for the buck. I had a budget Athlon II X 2 240 and was able to upgrade to the X4 640. Instant 25% boost in speed per Windows index. Not bad for under $80 bucks

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in HP Slimline s5000 Series

Pros: Works. Fast. Inexpensive. Better than 4 Semprons put together!

Cons: I must have bought the last one! T_T

Other Thoughts: A couple years ago I bought two HP Slimeline (s5503w and s5623w) package deals from Wally World as a cheap way to get my kids connected. Sure enough, they want to start playing these FPS and scrollers with a billion sprites on the screen at once. Both machines use the same M2N68-LA (Narra5) motherboard and the product specs here (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01701270&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4196114#N114) had conflicting information. It says the motherboard can handle an Athlon II X4, BUT you can only put an AM2+ in it. Huh? Naturally, I'm nervous, but I put it in the s5503w and it worked straight away (stock power supply!). The kids are quite happy with it at the moment. It boosted the CPU Windows 7 Experience from 4.6 (stock Sempron) to 7.3. But I went to get another one and Newegg is out! Boohoo!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: I bought this as an upgrade from an Intel Core 2 Duo and it has not disappointed, I have it O.C. and it works just fine. Recommended for people on a budget but want decent speed.

Cons: Runs a little hot when overclocked but I bought a bigger fan and it solved the problem.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Much faster than my old Athlon II X2 240 that I got back in '08. It lets me play BF3 on high now with my 9800GT and I can max out tribes ascend completely. Great loading times for apps.

Cons: Only 4 cores and not 6.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this CPU for anyone who is looking for a budget quad core. Even for a budget gaming rig. Will update in a month or 2 after I have used it for a while.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: - Cost per $ the best available
- Got it on sale for $65. Thanks Newegg!
- This thing is blazing fast!
- Easy to overclock
- Quick install

Cons: - Heatsink could have been a little bigger

Other Thoughts: I upgraded to this from a 3 year old single-core Sempron 240. While it runs on the same architecture I feel as if I have a whole new pc. This chip has the best performance per $ even beating out all Intel chips. (when it's on sale)

5 out of 5 eggsawesome speed

Pros: this chip is only .1 less in windows performance benchmark than my 3.4 black edition Phenom 2 x4 and is only 95w so its compatibility is great

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget 4 core to over clock

Pros: This replaced a 5000+ Black Edition dual core. Superior in every way. Took 10 minutes to install this chip, BIOS flash included. Overclocked to a Prime stable 3.76 GHz with a FSB of 250 MHz and the multiplier (locked) at 15x. Using my old Zalman copper cooler this churns through Prime95 at 56C. Tried getting squeezing a bit more juice out of it with 255 on the FSB (3.82 GHz) and it crashed halfway through a render on Cinebench 11.5. Extremely satisfied with this chip and my over clock.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I had wanted to get the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition but my board doesn't support the 125 Watt version and the 95 watt is impossible to find. Not removing eggs because this chip rocks.
