  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX 8-Core Processor The industry’s first and only native 8-core desktop processor delivers unmatched multitasking and pure core performance with all-new “Bulldozer” architecture. New 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. Immerse yourself in the most advanced 3D games. Achieve extreme mega-tasking with ease.
  • newegg AMD Turbo CORE Technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg New Instruction Capabilities – AVX, FMA4 and XOP, AES Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems. With HTT, the AMD FX-8120 enjoys up to 37GB/s total delivered processor-to-system bandwidth (HyperTransport bus + memory bus).
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology The AMD FX Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports up to DDR3-1866 and new low voltage memories of 1.35V and 1.2V and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).
  • newegg AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology with IOMMU Silicon feature-set enhancements designed to improve the performance, reliability, and security of existing and future virtualization environments by allowing virtualized applications with direct and rapid access to their allocated memory. IOMMU is an extension to AMD64 architecture to support address translation and access protection on DMA transfers. AMD-V with IOMMU helps virtualization software to run more securely and efficiently enabling a better experience when dealing with virtual systems.

5 out of 5 eggs"Dis-ney-land?"

Pros: EVERYTHING! I haven't tried overclocking it yet, until I use a better cooling fan (Im using the stock) But Bejebus, I'm impressed. Out of curiosity, I loaded a shooter, played a movie on VLC, printed a 15 page document, whilst downloading a 5 gb file.. all without a hickup..

Cons: It makes me want to call in sick to work, to play around with my new build.

5 out of 5 eggsWow.

Pros: fast? wow, it is. (7.5 index by windows)
8 cores in the task manager looks so cool.
Multitasking is decent, I am currently on a PS project, 2 youtube windows running, reddit, newegg and skype aswell, the lagg guy is running away from my cpu.
It stays cool (Cooler Master hyper212 helps I guess)

Cons: none so far!

5 out of 5 eggsSound Recording Studio

Pros: Handles Audio recording software flawlessly.
*Fast
*Cool
*Quiet
*Reliable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I was asked to build a PC for a recording studio. I suggested they go with a Mac. However, they already had the software for PC and were on a budget. So after a little research (I generally build gaming PC's), I decided on this chip. We were not disappointed. It flies through encoding, rendering, and audio recording. We are very happy with this chip.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Extremely fast
- On par or better compared to some of Intel offerings which cost A LOT

Cons: The only con I can think of is that this puts a lot of heat out and can be power consuming when under full load but not an issue for Windows 8 - it parks the idle cores.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I'm sure i'ts a great product

Cons: maybe none...maybe

Other Thoughts: Completely surprised to receive a CPU with the box seal opened. Doesn't mean the chip is bad..but how is one to know if proper ESD efforts were used if the CPU was handled?

5 out of 5 eggsAMD FX-8120

Pros: - Runs anything I throw at, with no problems what-so-ever.
- Fast, I can have many applications running at any given time with no CPU lag or stress.
- Loads up anything paired with an SSD at insane speeds.

Cons: - Stock heatsink.
It worked perfect for a while, but started to produce more heat. I've now paired it with a Corsair h100, and it preforms much better now.

Other Thoughts: System specs:
AMD FX-8120
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
8 GB DDR3
120 GB Kingston SSD
1 TB WD HDD
Nvidia GTX 650 Superclocked
