Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems. With HTT, the AMD FX-8120 enjoys up to 37GB/s total delivered processor-to-system bandwidth (HyperTransport bus + memory bus).
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology The AMD FX Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports up to DDR3-1866 and new low voltage memories of 1.35V and 1.2V and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).
  • newegg AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology with IOMMU Silicon feature-set enhancements designed to improve the performance, reliability, and security of existing and future virtualization environments by allowing virtualized applications with direct and rapid access to their allocated memory. IOMMU is an extension to AMD64 architecture to support address translation and access protection on DMA transfers. AMD-V with IOMMU helps virtualization software to run more securely and efficiently enabling a better experience when dealing with virtual systems.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cpu

Pros: Great chip, Have it OC'd at 4.4ghz on air.

Cons: Really needs aftermarket cooler. Rarely uses all 8 cores, I use this for gaming.

Other Thoughts: I want to start a new build, but this cpu just wont die, even with OC. Maybe in 3 more years.

5 out of 5 eggs3 years and still running strong

Pros: if you're on a budget at the time I would recommend this to anyone. it has been 3 years since I bought it. I have had it over clocked to 4.5Ghz for over a year now and have had no hiccups.

Cons: stock cooler was the same stock cooler as the previous generation. had it replaced at first with a thermaltake v1 fan cooler and then water cooled

5 out of 5 eggsFX-8120

Pros: Wanted something that would not cost an arm and leg and this one has been very good. I've overclocked and run just normal it seems to do everything I have asked of it thus far. It has done everything I needed it to do. I have used it to run a Mill CNC, to do programming in C++, and about 8 other forms of programming. Handles HI DEF Blue Ray just fine. Engineering work using electrical programs and structural have all worked just great with this processor.

Cons: So far based on why I purchased it. It has done everything I needed it to do. No problems at all.

Other Thoughts: Many people I think don't do their homework on processors for a core computer build and many times come up unhappy about what they purchased. Its all about planning. So plan ahead.

5 out of 5 eggsBest value

Pros: Does what a cpu is supposed to do and does it well. While your system does have to be built around the cpu this isn't where you need to dump your money. Spend your money on a good gpu and ssd to really get a boost and see performance. It's easy to get caught up with benchmarks where they show the fx lagging behind an i7 but you'll never see a stutter in your games from this or anything noticeable and this is far cheaper.

Cons: No cons with this cpu but make sure to get a decent cooler that fits your case as the stock one is terrible and can't keep up. I installed a cooler master 212 plus before overclocking.

Other Thoughts: Overclocked to 3.6, Installed a cheap 60gb ssd. Nvidia gtx 770. Windows performance score is a 6.9 which is limited due to the ssd, everything else hits 7.9 in stats. Benchmarks come through great and stress test for over 24hrs with no issue, remained cool (used arctic silver ceramiq). 8GB ddr3 ram in dual channel mode.

I run bf4 on max settings at 40-50fps. If you're only building something for home entertainment then you really don't need anything more than what I've built unless you want to throw away money. If you're a gamer then the GPU is where you want to put your money, go with Nvidia.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat budget processor

Pros: Nice and cheap for 8 cores. Runs very efficient. OC at 4.3Ghz on Corsair H60 water cooling.

Cons: Not even close to my I7 4770k.

Other Thoughts: If you want a home server or write your own apps to take advantage of the multicores you can't beat this.

4 out of 5 eggsLove at first boot

Pros: For the price I got it at ($80) it was a steal. Built my first system with it and loved it to bits. It's clocked a little low but nothing that can't be fixed with some aftermarket cooling. It's a great budget build CPU that'll get the job done.

Cons: Runs hot. It's AMD, their stuff is always fire, figuratively and hopefully never literally. I got mines at a pretty sexy price, but I can see people turning away for other options at it's current price.

Other Thoughts: AMD builds stuff that handles a ton of things great for cheapos, which isn't a bad thing. Intel will leave your wallet considerably lighter but for premium stuff. You wanna be a budget boy or a rich boy. Take ya pick.

5 out of 5 eggsJacob Winkle

Pros: Price

Cons: Would be nice if AMD just dumb down the box to more recycled material as that would reduce the cost a bit for AMD if they use a box material instead of this metal. But is nice and flashy looking but we really just came for the CPU.

Other Thoughts: Not a biased person when it comes to AMD and Intel
(Not a fanboy)
If AMD had junk then AMD wouldn't be in business this long. Price to performance AMD in general is in the ball park. Nvidia and Intel, yes more expensive, but there is a performance increase but heres the key,"By How Much Performance".

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: 8 cores of fury. 3.1 GHz. All leading to one amazing processor. Does everything you want it to and more while maintaining stability. At the time I bought this, $750 cheaper double the cores of Intels best.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: I play many games and this CPU runs them all and can handle running multiple things at once. Combined with a 990 chipset mobo and 6000 series ATI GPU (AMDs Scorpius platform) makes for one very solid setup.

Side note: For those who complain about the stock fan noise, I don't hear it over my case fans. The stock fan runs just fine and isnt any louder then anything else.

5 out of 5 eggsScreamin unit

Pros: This is a great CPU, it took anything that I threw at it without a hitch. Got it overclocked to 4.2 without any issues. AMD all the way!

Cons: Got a little warm even on idle
