  • newegg AMD Turbo CORE Technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg New Instruction Capabilities – AVX, FMA4 and XOP, AES Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems. With HTT, the AMD FX-6100 enjoys up to 37GB/s total delivered processor-to-system bandwidth (HyperTransport bus + memory bus).
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology The AMD FX Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports up to DDR3-1866 and new low voltage memories of 1.35V and 1.2V and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).
  • newegg AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology with IOMMU Silicon feature-set enhancements designed to improve the performance, reliability, and security of existing and future virtualization environments by allowing virtualized applications with direct and rapid access to their allocated memory. IOMMU is an extension to AMD64 architecture to support address translation and access protection on DMA transfers. AMD-V with IOMMU helps virtualization software to run more securely and efficiently enabling a better experience when dealing with virtual systems.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cpu for price

Pros: No problems at all with this. Used it to build budget gaming rig for GF. It plays FC3 paired with 8gb and a 550ti at decent settings with no frame stutter.

Cons: Nothing yet to report.

Other Thoughts: Worth the monies.

4 out of 5 eggslasted two years

Pros: This chip ran strong for a long time. Handling everything I through at it. From gaming to creating. I was on a budget when I built this rig and this was the right chip for me. The stock cooler wasn't too loud and kept thing pretty cool usally in the 40s when gaming. And i had it over clocked to 4.1.

Cons: After about two years of solid performance 4 of the 6 'cores' have died. Causing bsod's at random times. I disabled cores 2-5 in the bios and got it to keep working until I build my new rig. Even at two cores it runs pretty well. over clocked the two working cores to 4.4 and Temps reach about 50.

2 out of 5 eggsFailure after about 14 months

Pros: Worked well before failure. Could throw pretty much any non-gaming task at it with ease. No issues with intense usage.

Cons: Failure after about 14 months. Built this at the same time as a friend who went with an i5 Ivy Bridge. I opted for the cheaper product and learned a valuable lesson.

Other Thoughts: I've heard more recent versions of the chip are better, but I'm not going to be swayed by the marketing of logical cores again. Intel or nothing going forward.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Processor

Pros: Bought this a couple years ago and it is still going strong. Early days I over clocked it to about 3.7 without a problem. Took it back down to stock as it was not needed.

Cons: Wish I went with the 8 core back in the day. Not really a con just an observation :)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU for a great price.

Pros: A very good value for the price -- this CPU has been running smoothly for nearly two years now, and no sign of it slowing down. I bought it when it was pretty new (and the price was great even then), and it's keeping up with the demands of newer games and software.

Cons: None, really.

I've read other reviews that the multi cores aren't always utilized, but this is really only an issue if you're using older software. I've run into a few problems here and there (older games or programs, e.g. Portal) and have been able to work around them without too much headache. I don't expect a new piece of hardware to be designed to work at maximum efficiency with programs that are more than 5 years old.

Other Thoughts: Like most of the other pieces in my current build, I'd seriously consider buying this CPU again. Six cores seem like more than enough to handle what I do.

5 out of 5 eggsNever a problem

Pros: Render video, listen to music, and surf web without a sputter. I do a lot of video work, six cores made a big difference in speed!

Cons: Had to repace with Arctic paste or is that a given?

5 out of 5 eggsHell of a processor

Pros: Paired with a R9 280x, this baby flies. No bottle necking either. Then I tried overclocking. This thing is a dream! 4.7ghz on a Hyper 212 evo, 30c just browsing the web, 78 max while running Prime95. Battlefield 4 on ultra, always above 60fps! For $120(I got mine on sale for 99), this beats out any i3, and then some. All in all, a great processor for the money.

Cons: Heat sink is cheap, but that's to be expected. Go with a minimum of a 120mm cooler.
