  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX 4-Core Processor The native 4-core desktop processor delivers unmatched multitasking and pure core performance with all-new “Bulldozer” architecture. New 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. Watch rich, crisp HD video. Run multiple compute-intensive applications seamlessly.
  • newegg AMD Turbo CORE Technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg New Instruction Capabilities – AVX, FMA4 and XOP, AES Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems. With HTT, the AMD FX-4100 enjoys up to 37GB/s total delivered processor-to-system bandwidth (HyperTransport bus + memory bus).
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology The AMD FX Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports up to DDR3-1866 and new low voltage memories of 1.35V and 1.2V and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).
  • newegg AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology with IOMMU Silicon feature-set enhancements designed to improve the performance, reliability, and security of existing and future virtualization environments by allowing virtualized applications with direct and rapid access to their allocated memory. IOMMU is an extension to AMD64 architecture to support address translation and access protection on DMA transfers. AMD-V with IOMMU helps virtualization software to run more securely and efficiently enabling a better experience when dealing with virtual systems.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive Bang for Buck

Pros: The good:
This CPU is a great overclocker and although discontinued it is still currently available on fryss.com (in-store only) @ $45.00 retail in box! Furthermore, there are plenty of AM3+ motherboards on newegg. FYI DDR3 1333 Mhz RAM is being discontinued, so if you look around online there are great deals on it. This is how I overclocked FX-4100 to a stable 4.4GHz using the below listed MSI motherboard:

1- On pc bootup press your "Delete" key to access the BIOS
2- Navigate to "Cell Menu"
3- Press "Enter" key to access it
4- Disable C1E, Cool n Quiet & Turbo Boost
5- Change CPU FSB Frequency from 200 to 205
6- Change CPU Ratio to x21.5 (defaulted @ x18)
7- Select "F10" key to save your settings
8-PC will shutdown...then power up/re-boot

Windows 7 go to start button...type "power options"...left click on power options...under "select a power plan" change to high performance setting. In addition be sure if you are using Windows 7 be sure to install both Microsoft Windows 7 hotfixes for Bulldozer CPUs:

KB2645594 (install first)
KB2646060

Bing or Google to get them since neither are part of Windows auto updates. I have owned this processor for approx. 2 years and oced like above it will beat Intel i3 & will come close to i5 in performance.

Cons: This CPU has been trashed repeatedly; usually by individuals who lack knowledge/skill to overclock it. This was the "entry" level FX Bulldozer CPU;yet Intel masses always wanted to compare it to an i5 or i7...BOTH costing alot more. In stock form the FX-4100 is a dog, but oced it can compete with I3 and some I5s.

Other Thoughts: Here is my build I still use to this day:

RocketFish CPU Cooler model # RF-UCPUCF...BIOS set @ 37.5% CPU fan speed/voltage (thin coat of Ceramique2)

AMD FX-4100 CPU oced to stable 4.4GHz/core on stock voltage

MSI 760GM-P21 (FX) motherboard

Crucial DDR3 1333Mhz RAM 8 gig (2x4 gigs)

Gigabyte graphics card GV-R7850C-1GD (HD 7850 256 bit I gig DDR5)

Logisys 368 SOHO mid tower case (bottom mount PSU)

LG SATA DVD-RW drive GH24NSBOB

Western Digital SATAIII WD2500AAKX hard drive

Antec 80mm rear case fan (BIOS set @ 50% voltage/speed System Fan1)

Side mounted CoolMaster 120mm fan modified from 3pin to male molex (red/blk wires straight to PSU female molex)

Rosewill Hive 750 watt PSU

Logitech K400r wireless keyboard w/intergrated mouse

Monitor: Sceptre 32" LED 720p HDTV connected via HDMI cable

CyberPower AVR 685 UPS battery backup

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32 bit (RAM limit unlocked)

At current Fryss price of $45.00 brutally beats any Intel CPU in same price range. I paid $99.99 when I purchased it & after ocing it I love it to this day!

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Low Power Consumption, while still being clocked high. Speed is pretty good as well when paired with an SSD. Hard drive makes it kind of slow though.

Cons: None. Price per performance is still good.

5 out of 5 eggsPERFECT FOR BUDGET BUILDS

Pros: THIS CPU IS AMAZING. For the price you're paying this is well worth the cash. I have my cpu on the GIGABYTE GA-78LMT motherboard for about a year and 2 months now and I havn't had any problem with it. The stock cooler is a bit on the loud side but cools good enough if you don't over clock. I would highly recommend a after market cooler. I use a Hyper 212 evo and it keeps it way under 30c under heavy loads. If you're looking for a good budget friendly cpu I'd highly recommend this one.

Cons: None so far, you can't ask for more on this price.
