4 out of 5 eggsDisappointed....

Pros: It would be a great proc. if i could get it to work on my ABS G3 the other guy got his to work but mine wont run above 800 Mhz.

Cons: WOnt run at full speed on my ABS G3 . I have my bios flashed all the way up to 1.05 the final bios release.

Other Thoughts: I hope theres a bios update or a cpu driver that would resolve my problem. If not i'm going to pop it into a desktop mobo.

4 out of 5 eggsJust a Followup

Pros: None

Cons: The August 18 price cuts not reflected here...

Other Thoughts: The corsair was great in its day but not today = just average and can't really shop ram by brand anymore. You have to check who makes the pcb and what chips are on it. Oh well, the search continues. Best of luck...

4 out of 5 eggsCome On...

Pros: Anyone writing a review has to fill in the boxes and know what I am about to say = I do not own one of these but, from what I have read, looks really tasty. I, like you, am looking at bumping an outdated platform for the 'notsostateoftheart' folks that want something that they can deal with(in the as soon as you buy it, it is outdated world) for another year or two.

I am not going to buy, at this price! A waste of money...

Cons: AMD has thrown a bone to the socket 754 folks and, in a big way, resent it. I have been with the dtr's from the beginning and have done well. They are asking too much for something that is done...

Other Thoughts: Been awhile since I posted on the Egg but this one has me goin! Ok: DFI LanParty UT 250gb; dtr 3000+ @2.2 on water(240fsb on Centon[brain power pcb)1:1; 2.5,3,3,8. Haven't found the best ram yet but I have a stick of Corsair that I set some records with in the pipe = will post later.

Best of luck to all of you but, at this price, is a nogo cuz there is better...

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great at 2880 MHz!

Pros: With the lastest BIOS my Chaintech VNF-250 (Nforce-3 250) recognizes this processor. I disable cool n' quiet, set the memory for ddr333, run the fsb @ 240 with a 12X multiplier (results in a processor speed of 2880 MHz.

Cons: Expensive! Dual core socket939 and socket AM2 processors can be had cheaper (and the 2.4 GHz socket754 A64 3400+ is only about $95.00)

Other Thoughts: I am just using a slightly better than stock cooling fan. With better cooling this processor might do 3 GHz.

5 out of 5 eggsWon't work with mine...

Pros: I know this cpu is a killer, but my motherboard does not support it. It will run but not above 800mhz on my board.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I should have checked first.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor

Pros: Works as it should in the right system. Runs in my Biostar IDEQ N1 SFF barebone system great. You will need to disable some of the bios options to get the ACPI functioning correctly.

Cons: Support for the revision of this processor is difficult to research. I bought it origionaly for my HP zv5000 notebook without doing any research. After a week of frustration and no straight answers from HP, I gave up.

Other Thoughts: Finnaly bought the Biostar IDEQ N1 and after tweaking with the bios got the ACPI functioning correctly on the processor and all is right with the world now.
None of this would have been possible without previous reviews for reference. You do need the MSI mobile pad before you think about putting this in a desktop, and remove the thermal compound that comes with it and put an after market on because it does not work.

5 out of 5 eggsproper heatsink needed

Pros: Easily o/c'd

Cons: $

Other Thoughts: ANY Mobile amd64 needs a special Heatsink, that's right. I just ordered this Proc, I have an AMD64 Hammer Mobile, and Thermalright SP90 AL is PERFECT. It mounts, literally, with a click, and it accomidates many different fan sizes. Proc stays very cool, it's very effecient.

5 out of 5 eggsNOT for HP zv6130us

Pros: Great processor

Cons: Will not work in HP zv6130us laptop.

Other Thoughts: Another reviewer claimed it works great in his HP zv6100 laptop. My zv6100 laptop is socket 939. So I had to sell this processor and the 3200(venice) from my HP and go buy the 939 (San Diego). It rocks too. In my zv6100.

5 out of 5 eggsWell Worth Buying

Pros: Currently using the MSI Neo Platinum mobo and ZALMAN CNPS9500 heatsink. The processor is OC'd to 3.0ghz and is extremely stable. The Mobile 4000+ is running 6 degrees cooler (32 degrees Celcius under full load) then my previous Athlon 3200+.

Cons: Finding a compatible Mobo. MSI and DFI are the two manufactures I know of.

Other Thoughts: Look into buying an MSI mobile pad. The mobile, which was designed for mobile processors in desktops, adds a cover over the diode to keep the heatsink from crushing or chipping it. It basically makes the mobile processor look like a desktop processor.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop upgrade!!!!

Pros: Fast, quiet (low heat, slow fan), cool to the touch, and better battery life.
Newark rocks!

I upgraded my Clawhammer 3400+ that was in my ABS G3 Mayhem. That Clawhammer ran so hot at 1.5 volts. It was a desktop replacement CPU, though, not a real mobile.

This one is great. use a little artic silver 5 while you have it open for great results.

Cons: It's three hundred bucks for a 754, but I just squeezed another year of life out of my laptop. So not really a con.

Other Thoughts: ABS didn't want to say whether it would work or not. The only people that came close to a real answer were the guys at AMD. The BIOS upgrade (the final one) for the G3 allows for 62W processors (Semprons). This Newark is basically a Sempron on steriods. It has all the same instruction sets, but it is clocked higher and has a huge 1MB of L2 Cache. When Posting it even recognizes it as the red AMD badge for AMD Mobile Athlon 64, and not the former orange badge for AMD Athlon 64 (Mobile). Very nice!!! Would definitely buy again and recommend to anyone with a 754 clawhammer running at 80+ watts. Much faster.
