One more time - no heat sink
- Pros: Works great, works cool and is very fast.
- Cons: No heat sink. No fan. Just a lot of packaging and a longer warranty than an OEM version.
- Other Thoughts: The only difference between this boxed CPU and the OEM version is the warranty, 3 years vs. 30 days.
IMO, if these CPUs fail, they will fail within the first 30 days anyway, so why waste twenty bucks?
Bottleneck is now disk I/O
- Pros: 4 cores, 8 cores for a dual socket motherboard. Plenty of computing power for a workstation. Reasonably priced.
- Cons: Heatsink/fan hard to figure out. Not a con, just make sure you have a fast hard drive to feed all 8 cores ( dual socket motherboard ) or most of the cores will sit idle waiting for your hard drive when disk bound
- Other Thoughts: I don't mind that heatsink/fan is not included, since I wanted to buy something quiet for my new workstation. From what I gathered any good AMD 939 socket HSF should work. I installed 2 of these in Tyan S2915-e dual socket board ( board comes with its own HSF mounting brackets and backplate already installed) and Zalman cnps7000 cu ( HS overkill?). System would shutdown after 30 seconds when case was upright. This was due to freeplay between the HS and cpu. Dremeled out the top of the Tyan HSF brackets, applied themal grease now both cpus idle around 22 c. I am still worried about the weight of the Zalman HSF since it's only held by two screws and this is a tower case. So far it is holding.
No heatsink/fan
- Pros: Haven't really checked it out yet because...
- Cons: ... there's no heatsink/fan [sic!].
Granted, specs don't list it but there's "retail" in product's name what made me assume there indeed was one bundled. Not good.
- Other Thoughts: Gotta get heatsink/fan *real* quick O_x
