5 out of 5 eggsGood value.

Pros: Very strong when under full load. More muscle than twin X5670's but cost less. Did not compare them to E5's though.

Cons: Thirsty. With no other loads other than mobo, 2 CPU's and 8 sticks of RAM, draws 450w under load. I'm guessing they eat at least 160w under max load.

But this is to be expected.

Other Thoughts: You will need good cooling.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING!

Pros: Fast, running two of them so 32 cores not just threads. Having , for instance, 4 cores and 8 threds is like puting little electronic parking lots outside of each core so that if the core stops being used by whatever process it is working on the car (process) in the parking lot can then pull in to be worked on. All this takes time, although very little time, but hyperthreading is just that. Sometimes under certain situation hyperthrading even slows down the processor as man ovberclocking game players probably know. Even though some diagnostic software will list the AMD 6282SE as having 8 cores and 16 threads that is absolutely wrong. It is an error in the software monitoring the cpu's. There is no replacement for more cors in multi-tasking. I have also found that the new processors, I was runnig 2 x 6128 Magney-Cours 8 core; 2 GHz CPU's, actually run cooler in most cases and when the power profile in Windows is set to whatever you can set how many percent of the base speed the CPU's

Cons: (oops, ran out of room) will run at and it doesn't effect the turbo boost at all. The only difference would be the small lag to come up to speed when needed. I run them at 100% in high performance when I am working on very large Audio files with lots of tracks and plugins.

I haven't really ran into any cons as of yet. Except that it is hard to find good monitoring software for these CPU's, but I expect that will change and it not really a con about the CPU's.

Other Thoughts: If you wanted and had the money you could get some of the highest/fasted 8-core Xenons and get a 4 CPU board and it might out perform these at some things. But at what cost? $5,000+ per CPU vs $1,025 per CPU. That works out to $20,000+ for Intel( a bit less if you get slower CPU's) and $2,050 for AMD. $18,000 is alot of money, to me at least and beside CRAY Supercomputers use AMD 16-core CPU' in their 2 best computers. There must be something about these CPU's that makes them as desireable if not more than the Intel's. Probably heat, wattage, and price!

5 out of 5 eggsTaken Delivery...will keep you posted...

Pros: Well...I expect to be pleased. I have been running 2 x 6128 8-core 2GHz processors on an ASUS KGPE_D16 board for the past year or so and ahve beeb rather pleased with them exxcept for theneed for more speed on a couple od programs/plug-ins. I am upgrading my system now with more and faster RAM (64 GB Crucial PC-1600 CL=9) so it will be running in 4 lane mode instead of 2 lane. Also I have taken delivery from Superbiiz of 2 x 6282SE's as New Egg was out when I tried to order them :( Itried to get the from New Egg due to the great customer service I have always gotten in the past even though the CPU's were a bit more ($). Ah well... I am using two of the Noctua NHU12-DO coolers. When I switched from Dynatron A8's to these the temps dropped from 60 deg C + to 30 deg C! So I think they should be fine with the larger 140 watt CPU's. i am interested to se how the 3 speed turbo works compared to Intel's. I guess a core gets shut down for each core that goes to the highest speed...

Cons: None yet. I'll do some simple bench marks and post the results when I get them. I am not really into all of that really deeply so I just use Zip-7 to do the bench mark. I have a gaming friend that I help with his cooling that knows more about bench marks, maybe I'll get him to help get some useful figures. Untill i get everything installed and back up and running...
