  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsI am thinking about buying it Again

Pros: -Extremely Cost Effective
-Fast
-Great With Streaming League of Legends and other games.
-Excellent for first Time Builders
-Low Temp Stable

Cons: - This is what people don't tell you. Each core is weaker per core than intel.
-Most Games are single threaded so it's not going to be utilizing this amazing CPU so in benchmarks you may find intel processors out doing you. Since per core intel is stronger.
-There is also alot of games that are slanted in intel's favor.

Other Thoughts: I love this CPU and I think it was a steal even when I bought it for over $200. My friends and I do alot of benchmarks who is better than who oc and so forth. When it comes to streaming and playing games at max settings they have more problems where I fly along smooth sailing. There are games when I'll have 5 or 6 fps lower than then say in far cry 4 but then in bf for example I'm crushing them. Why because my multi core's are getting more usage than say in Far cry. I honestly believe even now this is a amazing card. If your soul goal is only to game then I suppose you may want to pony up and go intel. But if you do absolutely anything else i.e YouTube work or anything. This is amazing. It as well be free. But i encourage you to research the games you specifically want to play. You will have varying results some games you will shine and everyone will look bad. Then other games you will have lower fps.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Value

Pros: Amazing processor for the price! Nice overclocking potential with a good cooler. I get benchmarks close to the average i7-4790k at half the price!

Cons: Useless stock cooler just like every higher end cpu. Used it for a week until I got my liquid cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: Runs great. Moved up from the FX-6300 on asrock extreme9 990fx board. Close to a 30% improvement in heavily threaded tasks. Runs at 4.5Ghz (205Mhz x 22) at 1.337 V core and 75% LLC. Best bang for your buck at $170.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsNice upgrade

Pros: Upgrading from a Phenom 2 965. Has a huge boost in performance and it is very difficult to run this processor to it's limits.

-Cheap
-Fast
-Great for multi-tasking

Cons: -Stock cooler is terrible

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Power - 8 Core Beast

Pros: Very Fast and Powerful
Has 8 Cores
Runs idle at under 30 C.
Runs Full Load doesn't go over 80 C
This destroys a lot of I7s - makes an I7 look like a Pentium 4.
Perfect

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Couldn't be happier. Unless totally new technologies are developed for making processors, this one won't be obsolete for a decade. That being said, check out IBM's TrueNorth.

Cons: Not really much of a con, see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Because this processor is fast, it requires a lot of energy and generates a lot of heat. While playing Battlefield 4, it got as hot as 67 degrees celcius. The fan, spinning at 100% speed, sounds like a jet engine and can't keep the CPU cool. I have 6 case fans and that wasn't enough to keep temps down.

Do yourself a favor and get an aftermarket cooler. Doesn't have to be expensive, just better than stock.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU, bad thermal system

Pros: Fast
Stable
Excellent price-to-power

Cons: Terrible heatsink/fan combo. I'm used to this, but the fan is much louder than stock fans I have experienced before, and the combo is definitely underrated for the CPU. 97F idle, 105F if there's anything active open, 126F+ within a minute of loading a game and sitting idle in it. This means that with even normal use the thing sounds like a jet.

Other Thoughts: Buy an aftermarket heatsink/fan combo when you get this one. For $35, I ordered a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. If you like this one, please check to make sure it will fit in your case. It's big, cheap, popular and deserving of praise.

1 out of 5 eggsRuined my motherboard

Pros: It's a snappy processor when it gets going and at a great price.

Cons: This thing got so hot with the stock fan that it turned the thermal paste into a plaster. One day it just didn't turn on. I checked every cord possible and thought at first my PSU had failed. I checked it and low and behold it works. Whelp. At this point I do what every tech does we have a problem with many outcomes as to why its messed up. Rebuild it. As I came to the CPU I removed the heat sink to find the CPU missing... and stuck to the bottom of the copper plate of the heat sink. Stripped my motherboard and ruined my CPU.
