  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsThree years OC'd

Pros: Have had this fine cpu running 4.6 ghz for over three years now with an H80 water cooler. Originally paired with a 7950 gpu, then with a 290 reference. For 1080p gaming the 8350 can't be beat, especially with the shift in DX12 to multithreaded optimization - it will be a few years before the potential of this cpu is taken advantage of. The 8350 is the definition of future proof.

Cons: It might outlive me.

Other Thoughts: Buy it now. Best cpu ever, even greater than the Q6600 was in its own time.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Processor!

Pros: If you are looking a awesome processor for an awesome price look no further. This thing overclocks like a champ. I OC'd using the FSB + turbo method, and i get a stable 4.9 Ghz when turbo is enabled.

This baby benchmarks inline with the mid range Intel i7's. I have been using AMD since the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 6-Core, and i haven't looked back.

There is no reason to go Intel, unless you want to have a bigger score on the benchmarks; but in everyday use and in gaming there is no reason. Plus this processor is a 1/3 pf the price of an Intel i7!

Cons: No really a con, but like the other reviews here say, get an aftermarket cooler. AMD chips tend to run hot, don't risk using the stock cooler when overclocking

4 out of 5 eggsMake a fair AMD vs Intel comparison

Pros: Price vs performance it is just as good a a Intel dollar for dollar.

Cons: Many AMD 6 and even 8 core cpu's can be beat in performance by a 4 core Intel (without hyperthreading) . That speaks poorly for AMD's developement. AMD does give you what you pay for in price vs performance for that price.

Other Thoughts: Most people compare a 4 core cpu to a 4 core cpu. But the real comparision is price to price. Yes , a 4 core Intel is better than a 6 core AMD. But, price vs price , a 200 dollar AMD is about equal to a 200 dollar Intel. A 330 dollar 4 core intel performs as well as a a 330 dollar AMD setup (169 dollar AMD 6 core cpu plus a 170 dollar AMD motherboard).

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I wouldn't know.

Cons: it's next to impossible to install the stock heat sink without damaging the unit. Due to the damage incurred, I haven't been able to use it or give feedback on whether it works or how well it does.

Other Thoughts: Shame I lost the original packaging.

5 out of 5 eggsBest AMD CPU

Pros: Been running my FX-8350 at 4.62 GHz (220MHzx21) on Air (XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 120mm with 2 1800 rpm fans) for over a year. Runs like a champ. With Radeon 7870 2GB Graphics card, 16Gb (8x2) memory, and SSD it works great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is by far the best AMD CPU, why would you spend the extra on the 9590 and need water cooling? To get 4.7GHz?

The only time it gets above 50 degrees is during video encoding, and it does push the limit @~62 degrees, but I haven't had a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly fast Cpu

Pros: Amazingly fast Cpu for the price, will run anything you throw at it. Easily overclock able but be fair warned you will need more than stock cooling, even the Zalman and Enermax ETS T40 barely kept up

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Overclocked to 4.8 Ghz stable with a Lepa aquachanger 240 water cooler

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Mid-Range Budget Processor

Pros: -Excellent multithreaded performance
-Decent single core performance
-Better than expected gaming performance
-8 logical cores
-Low price (relatively speaking)

Cons: -Runs hot and loud on stock heatsink and fan (30-35°C idle, 55-60°C load)
-High power consumption
-Lags behind equivalent Intel processors in gaming performance (everyone knows that, just included it for clarity)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU for the price

Pros: -Great clock speed
-Easy to overclock
-Very reasonably priced
-Compatible with a huge amount of boards (AM3+ socket)

Cons: -Runs a little hot

Other Thoughts: This is a great processor for the price. It may not outdue a higher-end Intel i5 or i7, but you can't beat it for the price. Most video games don't make use of multiple cores well anyway.

It runs a little hot, but I'm planning on liquid cooling in the near future, which will solve that minor problem. Props to AMD on this one.
