New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and capable. Most of the cores are off during average work load.

Cons: Fan is loud, I plan on upgrading cooling. Watercooling is only necessary for overclocking IMHO.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: - Puts many intel cards to shame for 1080p and 1440p gaming.
- Has a good overclock sweet spot (with a good motherboard).
- Great for programs that can properly utilize

Cons: - Hard to overclock on an old or cheap motherboard. If you have an 890fx or equal I wouldn't recommend overclocking.
- AMD's max temperature threshold is much lower than that of intels; especially for this chip series.
- Very few applications utilize 4 cores, never mind 8 cores.

Other Thoughts: This processor is cheap, performs well for gaming, and will overclock very nicely. It does have some negatives but I don't believe they are large enough to warrant a lost star. Do the research and understand the product before you buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsFX 8350 = Beast Mode

Pros: I'm doing a repost. I never really put in my thought on benchmarks. So, I'm going to now.

PerformanceTest is what I used. It gives the 3770k (A third generation i7) as a comparison, along with Bulldozer series FX 8150.

At stock clocks, it beat out the 8150 in everything. So, it's quite clear that performance is boosted between 8 - 13%. the 3770k beat it, but the FX series came out on top with Physics at all times, though that's only one of three that I can think of.

I decided to do an overclock for a test. The 3770k is... what, about 80 - 100$ more than an FX 8350? Well, overclocked to 4.5GHz, the 8350 came out the same, and in all but one thing. It even beat out the 3770k in some regions, all but Single Threaded use. Though, Intel is known for superiority in the Single Threaded region, and if you get into the much higher dollar Intels, you'll stomp the 8350 by a noticeable margin. But a 200 dollar processor vs a 500 - 1000$ processor is just... Don't. No. It's silly.

Also, I basically just restarted my computer, tweaked for a few minutes to that 4.5, and went with it. It's overclocking, that's what makes the FX series processors really shine.

Cons: None. A little warm, but expected.

5 out of 5 eggsZOOM ZOOM ZOOM

Pros: This thing is a beast, my old CPU over heated figured i would treat myself to something nice, i have not been let down. AMD has made an extremely high quality CPU.

Go out and buy one, if you don't you will be sad and have to go to bed without dessert

Cons: none to report

Other Thoughts: Even the stock cpu cooler is kinda sexy, granted most will want to buy their own but either way. very happy customer.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It can handle multitasking pretty well, The price was appealing.

Cons: None so far. But I'll make sure to tell people around if something goes wrong with it.

Other Thoughts: My guess is that this CPU is good at generating heat.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat high-end CPU on a budget

Pros: It works, and it's a fairly powerful CPU especially for the price.

Cons: 125W is high compared to Intel's offerings, but I'm not overclocking.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for an ESXi game server I'm running. It's running Minecraft servers, Space Engineers servers, a website, and TeamSpeak and not even breaking a sweat yet. Great choice for a budget ESXi build.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MOBO

Pros: This is a highly customizable MOBO which is NOT for the faint of heart nor the noob. If you are a technical person than this is definitely for you. Otherwise, save your cash and get a MOBO with less overclock abilities.

Cons: The only real con I have found is that the "Free" software is only on the CD. I don't have one of those as I stopped using them in the 90's....
