New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsThe sweet spot of CPU performance

Pros: 4.0 ghz and runs cool
Paired with gtx 970 with incredible speeds
Water cooled at 20* degrees idle 40* load

Cons: Stock heat sink

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical going AMD which I have been an Intel person for a long while now. My friend and I tested this and the I7 there's no difference in gaming what so ever. Records were also all over YouTube showing a 1 FPS difference between the two but that's it... Why would I buy an i7 over a AMD now? Video rendering is about all but even then it's not that far behind.

4 out of 5 eggsAmd fx 8350

Pros: Cheap
Has fair amount of power for gaming
Easily oc' able

Cons: Consumes quite a bit of power
slower in games compared the the 4 core intel i7 4790k
gets hot quick
uses pci 2.0

Other Thoughts: This processor is great for all games and in bf4 when paired with a r9 270x at stock clocks i get mostly 60 fps on ultra and it never dips below 47 fps. Also it multitasks pretty good and ofc it doesnt cost alot.

5 out of 5 eggsEDIT to my first post.

Pros: -see other thoughts

Cons: -see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: After stress testing the CPU thoroughly YOU WILL need an aftermarket cooler. If you plan on using the CPU for encoding a movie, or anything that utilizes more than 90% of all cores. It will overheat and your computer will die if you don't have measures in place to have it shutdown in the event of heat. playing borderlands the pre sequel at a steady 72 FPS, no drops, could go higher but no need. maxed settings except physx because I use AMD cards.

5 out of 5 eggsBEAST. Read this.

Pros: - Has 8 cores
- Faster single threaded performance than previous models
- stock heatsink is a BEAST, don't listen to people telling you to replace it.
- Installed with ease.
- Makes very minimal noise
- Idle Temps are 18-20C 30-40 under load, without overclocking so theres plenty of overclocking room with the stock fan

Cons: - Only one con, it didn't come with thermal past separately. It came pre greased.. So I was confused for a minute, but not worth docking an egg over.

Other Thoughts: - upgraded from an fx 6100 and I am VERY VERY pleased. I would recommend this to everyone who is thinking about it but isn't sure.
I read a lot of negative reviews and I'm glad I didn't listen.
- Came in 2 days.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU for the value , can't beat 8 cores if you multitask

Pros: Outstanding multitasking. 8x 4ghz = happy computer. Great price.

Cons: The stock cooler sounds like it's made by Pratt & Whitney. I could swear my PC was about to launch off my desk.

Other Thoughts: This CPU is a great deal - about 30% less than an Intel equivalent, with most of the performance. With the savings you get, you can take an extra hundred bucks and put it towards a better GPU. While it doesn't hit the ceiling like an Intel, it gets 90% of the way there. Where this CPU shines - is 8 cores. On software where multiple cores are utilized - you will love this little monster. Lucky me, I've got a brother with an i7 to compare my Vishera 8350 to - and the difference, is not very noticeable to the average user - unless you're an intel fanboy looking for that intel sticker.

So - put your cash where it counts. Get an AMD - and more of the part that counts: Your GPU.

5 out of 5 eggsReally good CPU for gaming!

Pros: I built my gaming PC with this CPU and it just works wonders. This is the best bang for the buck that you could get. This CPU will definitely handle the most CPU intensive games. Although gaming doesn't require anything more than 4 cores and 2.5Ghz, I went and got this 8 core CPU because this PC was going to be my workstation as well. 4.2 Ghz and ability to overclock (not that I even need to) to a 5.0Ghz with no sweat is just unheard of in the Intel world. This CPU also runs at a low heat considering its high processing power. AMD has definitely stepped up their game with their stock heat sinks. The stock heat sink that comes with the FX8350 does the job right . It's a pretty good sized copper heat sink. IF you are to overclock though, I would recommend buying an aftermarket heat sink.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: this AMD 8350 and an R9 290X Graphics card is just awesome.
- as always, AMD > Intel

-John D. You're mad because you can't handle the fast speed of an AMD CPU so you had to slow down with an Intel CPU. but your wife likes it fast. she can handle it.

5 out of 5 eggschomp chomp

Pros: Crazy beast. it's up everything I throw at it. got it to a stable 4.7 on water. probably could squeeze out more if I tried but 4.7 is fine with me.

Cons: Want amd to launch a new cpu not 9000 series.
