  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsI miss it

Pros: Great price, easy to overclock, great performance.

Cons: Higher wattage, and slightly older architecture. Am3+ does not support PCI express 3.0 (why amd why)

5 out of 5 eggsPower of a jet engine

Pros: runs everything perfectly no issues. great price for my new build. awesome for my skid 970s. stays nice and cool.......

5 out of 5 eggsYes!!!!

Pros: Runs super cool with water cooling, and fast enough to run everything I've thrown at it. Mostly playing Elite Dangerous. Rungs great with a GTX 660 until I can upgrade.

I'm only running a single 32" monitor, so the bandwidth difference between this and an intel board that might support PCI Express 3.0 doesn't make a difference. If I can afford 3 monitors I'd have everything better, but this chip is pretty awesome with what I have now...

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: AM3+ boards don't support PCI Express 3.0, so trying to run a triple monitor setup, or trying to run 4k monitors won't be running at their full potential. But if you're doing that, you're probably not running an economy chip like this one! Best Ghz per buck right here!

Running Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Farcry, Diablo 3 at Ultra high settings.

Runs everything i want well and it can't be beat for the price.

Cons: Runs a tad warm.

1 out of 5 eggsInspect before installing

Pros: Great price. High performance promised

Cons: Pins were bent and I didn't realize this until I swapped out many components around the CPU. I replaced the video card, power supply , etc. I removed the chip and found 2 pins bent. I am now stuck with a very small coaster.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU for my first build

Pros: I am running this with a mid-range GPU (XFX Radeon R9 270X) and have not yet run into any CPU throttling on any games. 60 FPS is a breeze. Granted, I am playing mostly games 3-5 years old, but even with a stress test and Metro Last Light the GPU throttled before any CPU issues. I think this can handle much more than I'm giving it!

I have this working in tandem with a Cooler Master Hyper EVO and it's staying nice and cool.

Cons: No cons yet found. If and when I upgrade to a better GPU I'll be able to get a better feel for the limits

5 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: This is by far the best processor I have ever used. I waited to review it because with my new rig everything was improved by generations it took time to quantify everything.

Cons: All that power means more electricity and heat- especially if you OC it. Naturally that is going to mean you are going to need good cooling. Don't even attempt to OC it without a liquid cooler.

Still, with a good cooling system you are going to be casting that heat into your room unless you pipe it completely out. That may be a nice bonus in the Winter- but in Summer...

Other Thoughts: The pros swamp the cons. I can't justify the Intel I-series rivals much higher costs for dubious benefits.

5 out of 5 eggsStrong Processor

Pros: This is a strong processor. My rating was based on performance verse price. This will work for 99% of the people out there without breaking the bank for an Intel chip. Can do almost anything I want with this chip, game, surf, video edit. It benchmarks very well also.

Cons: The only con is it struggles when editing videos. However I am under the suspicion that unless you buy a $500 chip this will be a reality for all of them.

Other Thoughts: If you want to spend the money to get top of the line then get an Intel. If you want a chip that can process anything you throw at it but struggle in rare situations then this is your chip. Don't listen to all of the Intel fan boys that say AMD is bad. I have been building systems for 8 years now and all of my personal computers are AMD (Because I'm paying for it) and my work computers are Intel (Because I'm not paying for it) Everything in life comes down to how much you want to pay for something but don't pass up AMD or this chip so quickly.
