New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and reliable! Never had an issue from any AMD cpu I've owned!

Cons: Wish it had come with a water cooling solution instead. Upgraded the hyper evo 212 heatsink and fan for $30 and got it a little cooler than stock.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Upgrade

Pros: It runs faster, quieter, and cooler than my old 8120.
Stock heatsink is significantly better than the one that came with the 8120. Definitely one of the best processors on the market, especially at the price point.

Cons: Runs 55 degrees centigrade while idling.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value in gaming CPU

Pros: --8 cores at 4ghz stock.
--Plenty of speed for current games and apps.
--Stock CPU cooler sufficient for gaming and normal workloads.

Cons: --Can get a little warm.
--Stock CPU cooler not sufficient for overclocking. But why would you?

Other Thoughts: This cpu, when paired with a quality video card, is plenty fast for today's gaming needs. Running at the 4ghz stock, or even in turbo mode, the stock CPU cooler will keep the CPU at acceptable temps. I had excellent performance using the stock cooler, Arctic Silver 5, and a 120mm case fan blowing over the cooler and board. Easily able to manage normal workloads, but slightly deficient if you run something like Prime95.

On that note, due to the fact that I could *not* run Prime95 for any extended period of time using the stock cooler, I upgraded to a Thermaltake 3.0 Performance AIO water cooler. Afterward I can run Prime95 for as long as I dare, but really don't see any need. The CPU is plenty fast and I want it to last a long time.

To be clear for perspective buyers, the CPU is plenty fast running at stock or turbo speeds, and the included CPU cooler will work just great under normal gaming and other workloads.

I highly recommend the FX-8350!

5 out of 5 eggs4.8 what

Pros: great price for the performance you can get out of this cpu. I have mine set up with a H100i on a Sabertooth 990fx from Asus and have it up to 4.8 with the voltage set at a static 1.368v

Cons: at 4.8 there seems to be a wall I am stable at 4.8 but 4.9 i have to up the voltages to 1.45 and I don't want to go that high for an every day oc but nothing other than that

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Compared to my last CPU, which was an intel dual-core 2.5 ghz, this is much much much faster. video editing render speed is by far faster too.

Cons: Price has been getting higher

Other Thoughts: I read a comment saying they had problems with streaming?
Personally, I stream C9 perfectly fine in 720p without overclocking. I don't know how someone can have troubles streaming league of legends, as its processing power takes not even half as much as c9 does, but apparently some people have this problem. I suggest looking into it more if you are a streamer.

However, I personally can record HD videos and stream HD videos w/o a problem. For anyone wondering, my video card is EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB, my motherboard is MSI's 990FXA-GD65 V2 with this CPU, and I use Samsung 840 EVO's SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive CPU at its price point

Pros: with promotion code this was a very impresses budget upgrade for me. install with a CM 212plus and a 2nd 120mm fan push pull temperature's as gone very well for me, not sure if I got a better binary chip but mine chip well match its big brother on air cooling setup I have.
at 4.7ghz it idles at 18c, normal use at 35c, max 1hour stress test 55.6c , its in a HAF 922 case with artic 5,
integrated memory chip is running much better than last gen , got 2133 out of it .not mush to brag about in game play, about 5 to 7 fps more but the system just run so much better now with no lag . benchmark shows it outscore competition in multi thread app.

Cons: benchmark shows its 40% slower in single thread app.
don't get some reviews, what does 360,560,1080p has to do with this chip, get a better v. card,
2 years ago i would not have gotten this chip at its price point.
if you try to use the heatsink that came with it you got what you but in

Other Thoughts: this was a budget upgrade for me, half the price of my sons I5 3570k setup i got 2 years ago, even with the SSD aim still under budget and running faster,
PLUS as all way with AMD, backward compatible, i was able to upgrade the HTPC for free.

CM HAF 922 with 3 -200mm fans
cm 212plus with 2nd 120mm fan
AMD 8350
GSKILL SINPER 2400MHZ running at 2133- 11 10 11 31

5 out of 5 eggsHOT

Pros: Hot processor, over clocks up to 4.3 GHZ without little difficulty after that point gets a little unstable. Performs as expected, very very fast and without any flaws.

Cons: Not in more than one way.

Before I purchased this CPU I read the reviews stating that the heat sink fan was cheap. Yes it is! I was thinking people were just being picky. But even in a cool room at 4.0 GHZ it will exceed 150 degrees F.

Consider purchasing a high performance heat sink fan with the purchase.

I will not knock any stars for this because I believe they should never sell fans with processors due to they will always be in different environments.

Other Thoughts: Just all around good processor. If using with Windows 7 make sure to do your research. Limited support with Windows 7 since it come out after that edition. Use the updates and patches put out by the motherboard manufacture.

2 out of 5 eggs2 years ago, this made me an Intel fan.

Pros: *I like Amd's clip in system better then intels install on mobo, its easier and seems more secure.

When I was a first time builder, and wanted to stay cheap but still get a really powerful PC, AMD's cost to power ratio seemed so much better then Intel. I kept comparing over and over and really believed in AMD claims that it was equal to Intel processors who were $100 more expensive. Is it?

Cons: It wasn't.

I won't say who I am but I am a semi-relevant person in high ranking league of legends. Now I need a powerful cpu to stream games live in 1080p with OBS. With the default 4.0ghz, I could with the lowest possible settings in the game, I could not run stream past 540p, (even worse, I couldn't get past 360p if i had my webcam on). I tried doing many things to optimize this setup, switching broadcasting software from xsplit to obs, using chrome while i stream as its lower resource then firefox, trying to free up as much as possible. Then overclocking.

I obviously was not getting the power I had thought out of the default 8350. So it was time to try to up it through OC. I upgraded the cooling as much as i felt neccesary, went into my bios and first tried 4400 Ghz increasing the power as much as neccesary. Instantly the temperatures climbed and I had my power. Opening OBS and trying to stream again, I could not play with more then 30 fps and streaming 720p. Upping it to 4.8ghz, where I currently am, could get me to 720p and stable 60 fps, unless tons of action were to happen, in which case I would go down to 35-40. But the temperatures at that point are just too high to sustain in good conscious according to other people OCing online in good consciousness.

The cpu worked great for other games, such as things that weren't as cpu intensive and relied more on graphics cards. BF3, BF4, etc. But cpu related work, streaming, rendering, would all bottleneck this cpu even when overclocked. It was frustrating beyond end.

4.6 Ghz OC - 8 core sounds like so much to a first time builder. Not everyone has people around to tell them an intel 3.2ghz 4 core has more processing power then this for about the same price now. I knew intel was stronger, but not to what extent. I didn't research enough and wondered why no other streamers used AMD cpus.

Other Thoughts: All I want is people to do a little more digging so they arn't dissapointed like I was here. I'm not saying don't buy it, but be sure it has enough power. MOST i7's with atleast 3.0ghz have more power then this 8350 visehera. I didn't know that at the time, being a first time building noob thinking this was stronger then it was because of the 8 cores.

If you do choose to buy this ~ Don't even open the stock fan. Seriously. Don't. The cheapest fan you can buy from coolermaster or artic will already shave a lot of heat off it. I used the stock for a few days on basic clock while i waited for the other parts to arrive on super egg saver. Not only was it loud, but the cheap coolermaster fan I got took 30 degrees off (30!) in comparison just idling. And rip in peace if you ever try to overclock with that terrible amd stock fan.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome price to performance

Pros: Works excellent. Haven't over clocked it yet, haven't had to. I unpacked all 8 cores and wow, same as if I would have OC. All games then take advantage of all 8 cores now.

Cons: Stock cooler sucks and is very loud. I got the corsair H100 extreme performance and it does the job great and quiet
