New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

4 out of 5 eggsFX 8150 is great. AMD Overdrive, not so much

Pros: "REALLY power hungry, it usually runs at a 1.35V for stock, but toward the end of the first month I had to bump it up to 1.4V to keep all the cores working stable because I was getting these odd system hangs."

just wanted to say that ive had an 8150 for about 2 years now and your power is set way too high. I run my vcore at 1.22-1.3 tops. Stock is 1.5 witch is way too much vcore. Other than that great processor.

Cons: I just wish AMD Overdrive would work correctly. I have to go into overdrive and set all the parameters after every restart or even after coming out of sleep. even set my specs to default and it still wont hold settings after a restart or standby/sleep. and yes the box is checked that applys the profile at startup. Overdrive needs a revamp.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome chip, not so awesome noise

Pros: Handles absolutely everything. Ripping & burning media - always the biggest time sink for my CPUs - is orders of magnitude faster.

Cons: As others have said, the stock fan could be better. Even if you're not overclocking, the CPU & system can still run pretty warm, and depending on the airflow in your case, and how close it is to you, things can get a little loud. Still, I wouldn't dock an egg for that; the chip's just too good.

Other Thoughts: When I bought it a year ago, there weren't a lot of choices for mATX boards & no mITX boards at all. Perhaps that's changed, tho' I think a mITX build might run pretty warm without some really great after-market fans.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate On service

Pros: I'm going to receive a replacement

Cons: Had to go through a lot to get replacement

Other Thoughts: After figuring out that my rma was classified wrong, and all of the notes weren't documented I was issued a replacement with also a $30 credit towards my next purchase. I do this update to say that newegg has fixed my horror story so when they do I feel it's only right to say so on here. In the end, if your goal is to scam newegg and get a new processor when you had done something wrong it ruins it for people like me. I will for now on record my un-boxing of products to protect myself, but I'm just excited to try this thing out finally!!! Thanks to those 2 supervisors for all of your help, it means a lot..

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and reliable! Never had an issue from any AMD cpu I've owned!

Cons: Wish it had come with a water cooling solution instead. Upgraded the hyper evo 212 heatsink and fan for $30 and got it a little cooler than stock.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Upgrade

Pros: It runs faster, quieter, and cooler than my old 8120.
Stock heatsink is significantly better than the one that came with the 8120. Definitely one of the best processors on the market, especially at the price point.

Cons: Runs 55 degrees centigrade while idling.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value in gaming CPU

Pros: --8 cores at 4ghz stock.
--Plenty of speed for current games and apps.
--Stock CPU cooler sufficient for gaming and normal workloads.

Cons: --Can get a little warm.
--Stock CPU cooler not sufficient for overclocking. But why would you?

Other Thoughts: This cpu, when paired with a quality video card, is plenty fast for today's gaming needs. Running at the 4ghz stock, or even in turbo mode, the stock CPU cooler will keep the CPU at acceptable temps. I had excellent performance using the stock cooler, Arctic Silver 5, and a 120mm case fan blowing over the cooler and board. Easily able to manage normal workloads, but slightly deficient if you run something like Prime95.

On that note, due to the fact that I could *not* run Prime95 for any extended period of time using the stock cooler, I upgraded to a Thermaltake 3.0 Performance AIO water cooler. Afterward I can run Prime95 for as long as I dare, but really don't see any need. The CPU is plenty fast and I want it to last a long time.

To be clear for perspective buyers, the CPU is plenty fast running at stock or turbo speeds, and the included CPU cooler will work just great under normal gaming and other workloads.

I highly recommend the FX-8350!

5 out of 5 eggs4.8 what

Pros: great price for the performance you can get out of this cpu. I have mine set up with a H100i on a Sabertooth 990fx from Asus and have it up to 4.8 with the voltage set at a static 1.368v

Cons: at 4.8 there seems to be a wall I am stable at 4.8 but 4.9 i have to up the voltages to 1.45 and I don't want to go that high for an every day oc but nothing other than that

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Compared to my last CPU, which was an intel dual-core 2.5 ghz, this is much much much faster. video editing render speed is by far faster too.

Cons: Price has been getting higher

Other Thoughts: I read a comment saying they had problems with streaming?
Personally, I stream C9 perfectly fine in 720p without overclocking. I don't know how someone can have troubles streaming league of legends, as its processing power takes not even half as much as c9 does, but apparently some people have this problem. I suggest looking into it more if you are a streamer.

However, I personally can record HD videos and stream HD videos w/o a problem. For anyone wondering, my video card is EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB, my motherboard is MSI's 990FXA-GD65 V2 with this CPU, and I use Samsung 840 EVO's SSD.
