New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Nice and fast, 8 core processor for a reasonable price. Not over-clocked and is rock solid.

Cons: It should have come with it's own water cooler like the higher end visheras 8 core processors.

Other Thoughts: Wow. I think the fan is going to launch out of my computer. I definitely will be buying a water cooler and some better thermal paste for this one.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none as of this time,i can't make a comment on my parts
because i have not got them yet but i assume they will be
fine once they arrive. i changed my shipping address in my address book but newegg still shipped it to the old address
so i have to monitor my old address to catch the delivery truck
so i can get my package before somebody else does.

Cons: adress change.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and affordable

Pros: This is a processor that runs very fast. I have almost no loading time at all, even when running videos on 1080P. Everything my computer is doing is very fast. I have little to no screen tearing on ultra settings in the games I have played to this point. This, in conjunction with my R9 270X graphics card, has been a pleasant experience all around. To say I am pleased with the performance I am getting out of this processor so far would be an understatement. I avoided paying $250 for a processor, but the speed I am getting out of the 8320 has left me without regrets.

Cons: This thing is loud. I am surrounded by noise anyways, so for me the noise is not really all that noticeable, but when the room is quite, you can hear this thing humming. Also, as I am sure has been mentioned, this is also a processor that is going to run hot. I would definitely recommend a CPU cooler to go with this thing.

Additionally, this is a processor that will draw more power than most of its intel counterparts do. To that end, a power supply with a little more juice may be required when going with an AMD processor like this.

Other Thoughts: For $160, this is a terrific processor. Benchmarks will make it clear that the nicer i5's out there are going to edge the 8320 in performance, but not by much. Paying $80 less for something that is close in performance is definitely the way to go if you are price conscious with your build.

4 out of 5 eggsWarm Welcome

Pros: From someone that have been using an Athlon 2x 2500 for 6 years now this is like a breathe of alien air. It likes everything I do now only takes either a sec or no wait at all. Handles 1080p video playback in Adobe CC like a pro and it totally makes me cry that I don't have to pre-render just to see the scene.

Cons: 1.Runs really really hot.
2.Included HSF runs like a jet engine

I had to buy an aftermarket cooler(CoolerMaster 212x) the next day since I cannot tolerate the loud/heat from the CPU and HSF.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor buy an aftermarket cooler(Preferably a closed loop cooling system from a respectable brand)

Gonna switch to a closed loop once I have money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: This CPU has been Great, I owned it for about a year now and it handles 2 VMs running on top of my base windows system. Handles everything well.

Cons: A little Warm, even with Liquid cooling.

Other Thoughts: As I said a little hot.
I'm not sure how hot with stock cooling but it could be cooler on my liquid cooling.

If I could do it again I probably would have went with the other guys because of cooling.

4 out of 5 eggsRaw power for a great price

Pros: Well it does what is CPU is supposed to do but with the power of a ticked off shark!

eight cores obviously
great price and unlocked, what more do you need
pretty good heatsink* (notice the asterisk see cons for that)

Cons: I have a bit of the issue with the fan supplied with the heatsink.

First off I understand that especially for a high performance chip stock heatsinks are not your best option for highly cpu intensive operations, but in typical situations the stock heatsinks will suffice,

Now my problem is kind of funny because as for the heatsink itself I think it is actually very well-made and does the job well for its size. Most likely because of the 4 direct contact copper heat pipes.

my problem comes in with the fan, first off it's not the fan shown in the product gallery which I understand may change from time to time. The one that I received with my CPU was smaller then the one that you can tell was originally designed to fit on the heatsink.

The fan itself actually does not cover all of the aluminum fins and I imagine the cooling capabilities are reduced a bit because of it.

then there's the noise, this thing is LOUD! like 1U or 2U server loud. the smaller size means this thing needs to spin up much faster to move enough air and it whines like a jet engine.

honestly I'd only take off a half and egg if I could but that choice is not available.

Other Thoughts: you can get into the whole AMD verse Intel debate if you want to honestly I've used i7's and yes they do run faster but it's not like it's a night and day difference.

5 out of 5 eggsMust be fooling myself

Pros: Thing is fast. Running BF4 at ultra without a hiccup coupled with an MSI GTX 760. Normal CPU tasks are fast and flawless. I UPGraded from an i3 to this processor. Not sure about at least one review on here claiming they would rather have an i3 but this thing blows my i3 out of the water and there is no way I would go back.

Cons: I would invest in an aftermarket cooler if you are going to OC.

Other Thoughts: FX 8320 is well worth the $$. Don't listen to the fanboys and do your research and you'll probably come to the same conclusion I did.
