New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

4 out of 5 eggsThe best CPU for the price Range

Pros: This is the best CPU for the $160 price range, a Intel i5 3570k-4670k is slightly better but they're $200+. I've had This CPU since August 2013 and I have had zero problems, paired with my Asrock Extreme9 Mobo, and my MSI GTX 680 Lightning Edition 2x SLI I average about 75-80 FPS in BF4 on Ultra Settings.

Cons: Doesn't have the single core performance as an i5, but its at least $50 cheaper. It's not a FX-9590 or FX-8350, and get a aftermarket cooler, I suggest the Cooler Master hyper Evo 212+ the stock cooler for the FX cards is junk.

Other Thoughts: My rig:
Windows 7 64-bit
Cooler Master HAF XB EVO case
AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz
Asrock Extreme9 990FX AM3+
G. Skill Ripjaw X 16GB 1600Mhz Ram
MSI GTX 680 Lightning Edition 2x SLI
Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212+
EVGA G2 1000 1000W
Kingston SSDNow 90GB
WD Black 500GB HDD
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
AOC 23.5" 1080p LCD monitor
Logitech G710+ Keyboard (Cherry MX Brown)
Logitech G700 Mouse

5 out of 5 eggsBought for girlfriend

Pros: Fast, significantly cheaper then a FX 8350, 8 cores, OK temps.

My girlfriend had a FX 4100 and was getting lag in games during streaming. I suggested she gets more cores an FX 6100 or this cpu. For only a couple more dollars she got an 8 core cpu instead of a 6 core and she is very pleased. She no longer gets any lag in games while streaming and her entire computer is faster in general.

Cons: The stock cpu cooler is exceptable, but sort of crummy. The fan is a bit loud and her temps are higher then my FX 8350 with a Gaia cooler from Xigmatec(A great cooler for the price btw! I highly recommend it). The Gaia was cheap and keeps my cpu on average 15-20 degrees cooler then her lower end cpu with a stock cooler.

I would advise if you are getting this cpu to make sure to get a secondary cooler. It is not needed, but it is almost a must with these 8 core FX processors. I would also advise not putting this in a cheap case with low ventilation unless the rest of your components produce very little heat.

Other Thoughts: Over all for the price and performance I can not think of a better CPU. If you want to make you computer a monster and drop a couple grand keep looking. If you want a beastly computer for under 1000$ this is the perfect cpu for you. Just remember to save a couple dollars for a better heat-sink and maybe and extra case fan.

5 out of 5 eggsbest bang for the buck

Pros: great speed. you can over clock to 4.4 on a Asus sabertooth with no problem and the heat is 41celcius with a cooler master v8 CPU cooler while gaming. it can go way higher if you shut down a core or two. easy 5+GHz and more. people are getting 9+GHz with one core open. advice if your going over clock to 5ghz make sure you have plenty of cooling or liquid cooling. move over intel

Cons: nothing at all

5 out of 5 eggsMore bang for the buck

Pros: This CPU is by far the cheapest, and fastest CPU that you can get your hands on. When bundled with an SSD and a solid GPU and good Ram, You'll have yourself an incredible gaming machine.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm using an older GPU. The GTX570. I'm sure if i got a better one, Titanfall and heavy loads of GMOD wouldn't be a challenge.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice/performance 10/10

Pros: Love this chip. Works great stock.... But they unlocked it SO WHY NOT Right, cooling this chip with the 212EVO was able to get a nice stable 4.2 from it. Probably could get more but just like the components I'm not a fan of high Temps so I keep it mid to higher end of 50°c with my overclock

Cons: None..

Other Thoughts: I didn't use the stock cooler so I can not be of any help with how it preforms
