  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

4 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU with a few issues

Pros: This processor has plenty of power with most gaming or computer use. I mainly play Diablo 3 and CS:GO and this processor has no issues with either of those games. I also use GNS3 since I'm studying for my CCNP. This processor has helped tremendously in virtualizing a ton of network devices.

Cons: It runs very hot. In CS:GO, it was not uncommon to hit 65-70C. I tried the stock heatsink for a bit but it proved to be loud and ineffective.

As others have also mentioned not many games can utilize 8 cores.

Other Thoughts: If you're going to buy this processor, get an aftermarket CPU cooler. I'm currently using a Cooler Masters Hyper 212 Evo. It fixes all of the overheating issues I was having.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Easily over clocked.
Great bang for your buck.

Cons: Runs hot (AMD's trademark last few years)
8 cores aren't utilized by games.
Pins can be easily bent.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the money!!

Pros: Most of the reviews I've read regarding this chip is in the context of gaming. I'm not much of a gamer, aside from that granddaddy of all 3D FPS, Quake, with the Darkplaces engine and the Epsilon build. I run Slackware Linux, and for what I use my computer for, the FX-8320 is fast enough for me. With my budget constraints, I needed to cut where I could, and the chip was a good place to do it, and still get the octa-core love I lusted after. ;)

Cons: What con? AMD has always stood for value, and this chip is as good an example of this principle as any.

Other Thoughts: I've been a fan (Not a fanboy; there is a difference!) of AMD since the early 90's when Intel was charging upwards of $1k for the processor alone, in the days of the K6, K6-2, & K6-III, where integer computing was good but floating point computation was not so good. AMD has continued to be worthy of my confidence because of their competence in their products and their willingness not to gouge the customer for such a fine product as the FX-8320. A job well done, AMD!!

5 out of 5 eggsLOL

Pros: Benchmarks
Amazing Gaming
Way better than Bulldozer

Cons: Just general performance outside those areas

Other Thoughts: I probably would've gotten a 8320 for myself had I known they were this good; instead of my 3770K. (Then later I would've gotten Broadwell)

5 out of 5 eggsJust as good at the FX 8320 for half as much

Pros: High CPU / Core Clock (3.5 GHz normally or 4.0 GHz with Turbo)
Awesome Scalability with Clock Speed if you are at low load you can perserve power and high load use all your CPU computing power
Handles every game on the highest settings absolutely 0 Bottlenecking
Priced very nicely if you can get it for $159.99 or $179.99 like I did go for it it's a must by
Just as fast in my opinion as the FX 8350 maybe the FX 8350 has a %5 increase in speed nothing meaningful
Power Usage is great at 125 Watts at Full Load perfect for a lower power build like I just built
Comparable to Intel i7 4770k+ in Performance in single threaded / multi threaded applications

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsAMD 8320

Pros: This CPU replaced an 8120. I didn't think there would be that drastic of an improvement, but there is. About 15 percent improvement as far as I can tell, but games do work much better. This CPU also tends to overclock a little better (at least a little more stable) than the 8120. Highest I could get to with a decent double-fan heatsink Coolermaster setup is about 4.6, however it is unstable and gets very hot at this point. I bumped it back and see it performs pretty well at 4.4 to 4.5 however it still gets hot under certain settings - I recommend you leave the safety settings on so it can vdroop when it isn't active and so it can underclock some cores when it isn't active to keep it cool.

Cons: It gets extremely hot beyond 4.5 gigahertz.

I have one of those Coolermaster double-fanned heatsinks with lots of heatpipes.

It is still very good for the price, considering how much you can get out of it.

Other Thoughts: If you want to go much higher than that with an AMD CPU, then the 9590 is your best bet. However this chip is very cost friendly and the price-performance ratio is nice. If you want an 83** series and want one that has a better TDP then go for the 8370.
If you're upgrading from an 8120 or 8150 it is worth it, especially with prices dropping so low on these. These can hold you over until Zen.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU - Basic heat sink and fan

Pros: I barely ever max out this CPU with any game or task. Even when saving HD videos with a normal non SSHD. It runs great over clocked at 4ghz even with the stock cooler. Runs way cooler with Arctic 5 thermal paste then the stuff that comes with it. Highly recommend using the Arctic 5 right off the bat.

Cons: The fan just died after 20 months of constant use. It made a grinding noise at high speeds for awhile then last night it wont go over 30% of the speed it used to when told to run 100%. Also the heat sink corroded so I bought an after market cooler. Probably high humidity, not the heat sinks fault.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a good processor for the price

This thing over clocks very easily and there is, in my opinion, no reason to get the 8350 over this. I have OC my 8320 faster than a stock 8350 with minimal effort after swapping out the heat sink.

Cons: The stock heat sink is ridiculous. It is as loud as a jet engine and cant even keep the CPU under the recommend temps at high temps . Spend 30 bucks on a cooler master 212 and save your cpu.

Other Thoughts: Try and buy it in a bundle for reduced price. For 149 its still the best processor in the price bracket.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: - 8 cores
- OCed at 4.8 GHz w/Thermalright Macho, stays under 55 C during P95

Cons: - Stock cooler does cool it, but it's really loud
- Pins on CPU; easy to bend them (I did lol)

Other Thoughts: Overall it's an amazing CPU, especially for its age.
