  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well at Stock Speed.

Pros: * Very nice price-performance point.
* I used this for a value build; perfect part for my needs.

Cons: * The stock cooler is loud and ineffective. Though, I like having spare parts for hobby projects. Nothing went to waste.

Other Thoughts: I used a 212 EVO to cool this processor. I would have no problems overclocking this chip by 30% or more, except that the VRMS on my mobo are too hot. I don't need the extra speed and was happy with an inexpensive mobo, but if you want a strong overclock, do not go cheap on the mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the buck

Pros: Super fast CPU. I'd say upper middle shelf gamer and top shelf video editor.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not a con but the included heatsink and fan suck. Very loud. VERY loud. You shouldn't be using stock/free heatsinks at this level anyway.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but can get scary hot

Pros: 8 cores and lots of power
Runs first post
Comes with a copper/aluminum fan with thermal paste on it (honestly this should do the trick if ambient temp is kept in check...read cons)

Cons: -This may be the smallest and most expensive electrical grill you ---have ever bough ;)
-Get's toasty in very optimal conditions.
-I have SIX 120mm case fans. 2 front to pull cold air in, one on side to pull cold air in, and 2 on top for exhaust. (and also not counting the GPU and PSU fans are like extra exhaust fans)
-Runs @ 60C* when checked with BIOS temp. Runs anywhere between
-Runs at 46C* Idle. 61 to 65*C while gaming(Planetside 2 med, high, ultra, settings did not matter). And has gone as high as 67*C when downloading Planetside 2, or when HDD is at 100% read/write speed. Weird.
-All this heat happens at around 30% total CPU load.
-Highest temp was reached when the CPU was mostly just using one of it's 8 cores as part of it's own self adapting technology and that core was up to 100%

Other Thoughts: CPU technology is supposed to optimize cores and I see it working on speedfan app, sometimes only 1 or 2 cores go up as high as 100% while the other ones dance up and done only a few percentages.
Will try water cooling in the future for processor and Northbridge as they both get insanely hot. However the weird thing is only the north bridge is hot to the touch, the cpu heatsink is only a little warm even when bios temp gauge says it is sizzling.
PC SPECS:
-MOBO MSI 970A-G43
-GPU PowerColor TurboDuo AXR9 270
-PSU Rosewill ARC-M650 (650W)
-MEM HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
-HDD Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
-And obv the processor is AMD FX-8320 8-core

4 out of 5 eggsGood but not good

Pros: Great processor for the cash!

Smooth on MOSt games

Cons: HEATS UP LIKE I PUT IN THE TOASTER!

I put a thin line of paste between the heatsink and CPU, thus leaving enough of a layer to do its job. I have 11 total fans, 9 case fans!

No matter what level of sittings i play GTA V, or Advanced warfare weather it be LOW MED or HIGH the processor seems to malfunction sending the TEMPS TO 180 DEGREES fahrenheit.

Which my mainboard shuts off my PC before it EXPLODES haha..

I do have a stock heat sink... But no matter what I SHOULD RECEIVE A SUBSTANTIAL HEAT SINK THAT CAN KEEP THE CPU COOL without having to spen another $150 ON A COOLING SYSTEM OR HEATSINK.

They literally sold me a heatsink that doesnt DO ITS INTENDED JOB AND SOUNDS LIKE JUNK!

The CPU FAN is LOUD, ANNOYING, and most of all NON - EFFICIENT!

ITS LIKE PUTTING AN OVEN IN YOUR CASE WHILE YOU BAKE A CAKE!

Other Thoughts: My thoughts are, equip your product with efficient heatsinks OR DONT SELL HEATSINKS WITH IT AT ALL!

5 out of 5 eggsGood cpu, terrible loud stock cooler

Pros: 8 cores, nice clock, tons of overclocking headroom.

Cons: the stock cooler is terrible, thats about it.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to get this, get an aftermarket cooler too.

These are 8350s, but underclocked.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Editing and Productivity CPU at Price Range

Pros: I know this isn't the greatest CPU for gaming at this price range, you can get an i3 which will curb stomp the 8320 or 8350 at about the same price. But guess which processor--the i3 or the 8320--absolutely sucks when it comes to video editing. The i3. I could get a dual-core for hyper-threading that's great for games, but I don't always play games. I make and edit videos. And this thing is a beast in Sony Vegas Pro. This thing is even better than some of the more-expensive Haswell Core i5s at video editing, and particularly streaming and recording gameplay, if you're into that.

Cons: High TDP and low max safe temperature makes it kind of a pain to overclock, but it can still overclock a lot.

Other Thoughts: I love this CPU and couldn't think of a better option I could go with at only $120 (Black Friday deals are awesome). If you want to build a PC at some point, wait for this processor to go down in price around Black Friday and the holiday season. I saw the 8320 at another online retailer at $99.99 at one point on Black Friday, and it might drop even lower this year later on.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Furious

Pros: This CPU really is the best bang for your buck. I get very good performance from it and it's a multitasking beast and can handle doing multiple things with extreme ease even when maxed out.

Cons: What everyone says is true about the included cooler. The cooler is definitely loud (because of the small fan which runs up to 6000 rpm) and is barely sufficient at keeping the CPU cool (only sufficient if you do not max out the CPU for any length of time or overclock it).

Other Thoughts: Trust me when I say even with the best thermal compound the CPU (using the stock cooler) WILL get over 60 Celsius after a while of heavy use, which is not what you want (and the fan will get louder).

Another thing to keep in mind is your RAM (or memory). If you have problems check that your memory is configured correctly and the timings and voltage is correct. For me I was running mine at a lower clock mainly because I was using an old CPU that couldn't use the full speed the memory was capable of. After upgrading the machine it automatically up clocked the memory and it would not POST and if it did it would freeze shortly after. At first I thought the CPU was bad but it turned out to be the memory.

5 out of 5 eggsA welcome return to AMD

Pros: Very affordable and performs just as well (if not better) than pricier CPUs.

Cons: Stock CPU cooler very loud but that's to be expected.

Other Thoughts: After leaving AMD and going to Intel for my last 2 builds, I'm very happy with my decision to return to AMD. A LOT more bang for your buck on this side of the fence.

5 out of 5 eggsBest for the price :)

Pros: This cpu is amazing. Like really. Fast as hell, and for such an amazing price you can't skip this deal.

Running cpu intensive games (bf3,csgo) with a hd 7770 csgo hits 300 fps med settings, and bf3 56-60 ultra. Great multitasker too.

Also A lot of people complain it runs hot, even though technically it should because of more power consumption.

But.. with an evo 212 I get 17-19c idle and mid 30's while gaming. Stock speeds too. Thing is a boss :)

Cons: Can't cook.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend 10/10

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Upgrade

Pros: Upgraded from FX 6200 and can now stream to twitch at 60fps in most games with no issues. Having 8 cores is really useful when working with virtual machines. Can be overclocked quite a bit, currently it at the same clock speed as the 8350 (4ghz).

Cons: Its 4 years old? Hardly a con for the performance.

Other Thoughts: I also purchased a new a cpu cooler and it has not gone above 60c once when I ran prime95 stress test.
