  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU

Pros: If you don't want an Intel, this is a perfect processor for your gaming needs.
I got this instead of the FX-8350 because I can just overclock this one to 8350's speeds and beyond if I need to.

Cons: The heatsink is terrible, but that's to be expected from all CPU's that come with a stock fan. It's too hot for the bundled heatsink, however.

Other Thoughts: This has gotten me high and ultra settings on most games (paired with a good graphics card, of course). Shame about the heatsink that's just laying around though.

5 out of 5 eggsNow an AMD guy

Pros: -Cheap
-FAST
-8 Cores
-Overclocking ability

Cons: -Lower single-core clock

Other Thoughts: Honestly, I was an Intel guy. After buying this because I wasn't willing to spend twice the price for Intel I have no regrets. In 5 years 8 cores will be the norm, and the processor has plenty of room for a higher core clock.
Some people say it's bad at gaming but I have an opposite experience.

Running a 750ti with this processor I get 45-55 fps on GTAV Very High settings at 1080p. So don't listen to the people saying it's not good for gaming- because it is. (That's stock, too). If you have the money to spend $400 on a processor, I'd say go for Intel. But if you don't have that much just sitting around being wasted then definitely go this processor. You won't have any regrets!

5 out of 5 eggsVery good Price to performance CPU.

Pros: Can game very well at 1080p and play most modern games well paired with a GTX 970, most games today uses the GPU more than the CPU, so a beefy GPU will go further than a CPU.

Vulkan API and DX12 will bring multi-core optimization to everyone. This would literally bring the FX line to compete with the i7s. Look to multi-core benchmarks and games to see how.

Also if you do lag in Battlefield or get pesty microstutter look to CPU unparking. It would solve the issue.

Cons: Very hot, and a power hog. But with the money I saved over intels the difference would take a little over 5 years.

5 out of 5 eggsFast.

Pros: This is by far the best deal on a CPU I've had since the Phenom II chips were new. I own multiple i7 (4770, 4790) chips which were over $300, this chip right out of the box on stock voltage was able to hit 4ghz, I was able to get it to 4.4 ghz with only a tiny voltage increase and suspect it would do well at 4.6 - 4.8 for a heavy OC. Granted these have a lower IPC than Intel, for the price and a mild OC this easily gives fantastic performance per dollar. I really was not happy with the Bulldozer architecture but these later chips really push them to great performance.

Cons: Not a con at all but if you are looking to build a brand new rig, keep in mind that this is the end of the line for AM3+, AMD will be releasing AMD4 socket boards with their new Zen architecture next year. This chip was an upgrade for one of my rigs still running Phenom on an am3+ board. For people who don't need the cutting edge however, this chip will likely hold up for quite a few years before any major GPU bottlenecks start creeping in.

Other Thoughts: I may have been lucky with my OC but it seems that these are the same bin as FX 8350 chips (stable at 4.0 GHZ on stock vcore). I'm glad I grabbed the 8320 and saved a few more bucks.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent buy!

Pros: Easy installation, no hassle, no errors

Cons: None that I've seen so far.

Other Thoughts: I installed this with the appropriate motherboard. I anticipated have to take all night to get it to work but on the very first start up it went straight to Windows on an existing hard drive. Thumbs up.

2 out of 5 eggsSucks at gaming

Pros: Cheap for good non-gaming performance - bought it for $140
Fast in Windows
Works good in some multi-threaded titles
DX12 will likely give it a boost due to its 8 cores

Cons: Bottleneck galore, even at 4.2 GHz (R9 290) - not sure if motherboard prob.

Lucky to get 30fps on Arma III Multiplayer even with distances turned down

GTA V: Can't go above 50 fps regardless of settings/res/AA

Far Cry 4: Similar situation to GTA V - won't go above 50, and drops below 30 in heavy situations

Witcher 3: Runs good, so not as bad as the other 3 (not holding my 290 back at Ultra), but Low is still below 60 (Ultra + Hairworks (8x tess) at 40fps)

Other Thoughts: Buy a locked i5 + H81/B85 mobo (similar price) instead of this, don't make my mistake

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Gaming CPU

Pros: Is cheaper than an i5 and runs most games on par with an i5 give or take a few fps. New games are using more cores ie bf4, Witcher 3 and even Crysis 3 now uses all 8 cores. This is actully a better cpu now than when it was first released. Can be OC to 4.0-4.3ghz with very basic air cooling. I have this paired with a GTX 970 and it can max the card at 100%.

Cons: You must get a good MB to take advantage of this chip. It will get hot and using a 970 chipset MB will probably lead to throttling. 990 chipset with a higher power phase work much better and allow the chip to strech its legs. Asus m5a99fx is what I use works great.

Other Thoughts: The $100 or so I saved getting this cpu allowed me to get a GTX 970 insted of a R9 280x. If you have the budget and winning benchmarks matters to you more then get and i5 or i7, if you have limited funds and want to get a cpu that will let you run any gpu to max out your games get this cpu.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT budget CPU

Pros: Fast, reliable, cheap, responds pretty well to overclocking

Cons: overheats with stock cooler, isnt 4.2ghz factory

Other Thoughts: Using this in a budget video editing pc build. I almost went with the hexacore version in order to get a slightly better GPU, and I am really glad I didnt. With the stock cooler it will overheat, but with an 212 EVO it idles around 13 deg and under load when rendering video it will max out at about 42 deg. OCd to 4.2GHz, it idles around 24 deg and tops out at around 52 deg.

Great buy!

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome

Pros: Low cost and very fast 8 core cpu. Clock mine to 4,2ghz on air cooling. Buy a hyper 212 evo with this and you would'n regret that! Really good chip. Play all game with no lag and convert video file so fast.

Cons: A little bit hot!!!
