New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsNo Bottlenecks!

Pros: Runs very smooth. Powerful. A very fast, easily overclocked proc which does very much so, in every way, outperform my old Phenom II x4 970, even with that one oc'd @ its best, 3.90GHz.

I have this CPU running on my 990fxa-gd80 with a TT Big Typhoon air cooler, at 4.30GHz solid. That's with turbo-core tech disabled, raise multi & up the V's a little. That's an 800MHz oc. On air! To me, this represents the best value for the $.

Plays ALL my games, paired with a great gfx card, and with no bottlenecks, it powers thru all that I can throw at it. It doesn't get very hot either, if you have adequate cooling it should run great in your system.

Cons: There shouldn't be this field for this CPU! Seriously, how could you not be pleased? *

Other Thoughts: *It's 8 cores are extremely capable of raw power, which has yet to be harnessed by the OS & softwares. Even so, it distributes work among its cores very efficiently, and even games like BF3's large multiplayer maps take advantage. It's very fast and eliminates bottlenecks if you're gaming.

I'm more than pleased for the cash that I paid.

The brain of your computer system, it's essential you get something capable. This is more than enough for a few years or until you might want to upgrade again.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Processor

Pros: - Has strong stock performance.
- Overclocks very high with the right motherboard, power supply, ram, and cooling
- Strong in games
- Excellent multi threaded performance

Cons: - Power consumption at high clocks

Other Thoughts: I recently upgraded from a phenom ii 720 BE on a biostar 790gx 128M and this is an immediate upgrade. I noticed huge fps gains in all of my games. If you are an overclocker than at least do some research on this chip. It is an amazing processor. I am currently running at 4.6 GHZ @ 1.4v on a sabertooth R2.0 with a noctua dh14. I think I could overclock higher but am a little hesitant too as my processor temps exceed 65C running prime95.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor for the buck

Pros: Very fast processor. Handles whatever you throw at it, without chugging down.. Has not had any issues with the various processes I've thrown at it thus far.
Used primarily for gaming and video watching/editing..

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Ordered quite a few parts together.. Will be placing this "other thoughts" in ALL of my reviews of the parts I placed...
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core
NZXT LEXA S LEXS Case
Rosewill HIVE Series HIVE-750 750W Continuous @40°C, 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified, Modular Design, Single +12V Rail, ATX12V v2.31/EPS12V
GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5
ASRock 990FX Extreme4 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
---------------------
All parts came as intended, and seemed to work well together. Only problem I've had, has been 2 random crashes while watching YouTube videos. Screen goes black, sound continues for a few seconds, then cuts out and PC freezes. As it's only been twice, and while watching YouTube videos, but not while playing any games, I'm thinking it may be freak accident. Will redo review should I find out anything more..
---------------
Additionally, do not use the stock AIR COOLER that comes with the processor, unless you do not plan on putting the processor to it's full potential. I've purchased a Antec Kuhler 620 Liquid cooler system seperately, and it works like a champ.
-------------------
Final Thoughts - Buy this Processor if you're not dedicated to Intel, and enjoy...

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied me

Pros: The main factor for me buying this processor was the price between AMD and Intel. Even though the processor does not have eight distinct and separate cores it seems fast enough for me. I have a Intel I-950 processor (4 cores with Hyperthreading) and it seems as fast or faster than the I7. I am not a game player so I use the machine mainly for capturing and rendering videos. It handles that task to my satisfaction. I can convert a full DVD to a MP4 file in about an hour on this machine.

I would certainly recommend this processor to my friends.

Cons: The fan on the stock cooler is not removable so you can't add a larger fan even though it looks large enough to support a 80 or 90 mm fan.

Other Thoughts: I used a Cooler Master Hyper 212 aftermarket cooler so all I can say about the cooler that came with the processor is that it has 4 heat pipes and has a copper base. It also looks like it has a 70 mm fan on it. Just based upon the size I think it would have to spin rather fast to keep the processor cool. I am just guessing you understand, but I think that a fan of that size would be too noisy for my taste.

5 out of 5 eggsnothing but positive

Pros: This cpu is amazing, 8 cores, vishera, 3.5 GHz and will auto turbo to 4.1 if needed (but lets be honest it probably wont need to). When playing games this cpu just plows through everything, runs around 40-60% usage when playing BF3 on high settings.

Cons: none, what so ever, and there never will be.

Other Thoughts: i upgraded from a AMD Phenom ii x4 975, and this 8320 was the perfect upgrade, i double my cores, and my cpu temps dropped from 50 idle (60-65 load) down to 21 idle (most ive seen go up to was 70% playing games, havnt tried rendering a video yet). so all in all, if you dont have the extra $40 for the 8350, definatly get this CPU

4 out of 5 eggsGood Processor

Pros: The processor is quick and is an upgrade from what I had before in an i-3. I wasn't going to do any extensive work like video editing. All I needed was something cost effective and good for gaming so I went with the FX-8320. This processor does the job of gaming effectively and for the price is great.

Cons: I tried my hand a video editing with this processor and it was cumbersome. Very extensive programs are very slowed with this processor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price for performance, avoid the intel monopoly

Pros: 8320 works like a charm, easily overclockable to an 8350. In multitasking it can compete with an i7 but at more than 100 dollars less.

Cons: Sloppy fan sticker placement by AMD, not a huge deal.

5 out of 5 eggsAMD solid as always

Pros: 4 cores/ 8 modules / 8 threads what ever !! This CPU is great upgraded from a X6 1055T that I had clocked at 3.5 instead of 2.8ghz. And saw a difference in my speed of rendering for maya 2013. I know it isnt as fast clock for clock as the X6 but it makes up for that with more cores/ and better overclocking. If you use allot of programs that can make use of many threads this is the cpu for .

Cons: None love AMD and there value/$ CPU's. Intel I7 is faster but i would always have to change motherboard and buy k series cpu to get the same speed as i would on amd platform. I have owned every amd CPU generation from the k7 Thunderbird to the fx 8320. ( I skipped bulldozer though lol ) Only con i can think of is the stock heat sink still sucks.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for Buck proccessor

Pros: The best bang for buck proccesor. Even beats its better brother the 8350 in value. if u can spare the 20$ (Who cant) get the 8350 but i got this on sale so it was worth getting the 8320

Cons: Games dont use all the cores. Not AMDS fault gamemakers just suck

Other Thoughts: This is part of a 740$ budget build that just wrecks everything I highly reccomend this proccesor
