New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to six “Piledriver” cores ensure breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 6-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Superior performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 6 Piledriver cores The native 6-core desktop processor ensures breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing performance for price!

Pros: I bought the black edition and I have had this processor for a year now and love this little guy. I use it for an everyday desktop I built that also doubles as my gaming desktop and it is not showing any problems. I am running it on a Asus m5A97 Le 2.0, 16 GB G.Skill 1600mhz ram, x2 840 evo ssds, and an Asus Gtx 970 Strix; it runs so smooth. I overclocked it to 4.2 GHz with the stock cooler and just finally got my nzxt x61 so now it is running at 4.5 GHz perfectly stable. no complaints and would definitely recommend for the money, benchmarking the overclock put it above the 8350 I'm basically all the tests in Passmark, so for saving close to $100 you can get almost the same performance out of it.

Cons: Not an 8 core?

5 out of 5 eggsYou can't go wrong here

Pros: Six cores? Seriously?
Works as advertised
Unlocked - Black Edition
Great $ vs performance ratio

Cons: None yet. This has worked for a whole day so far and keeps on working.

Other Thoughts: I used a cooler from a 125 watt AMD 955 quad core that I had leftover. This runs quiet and cool. I think it could be over clocked easily with this or another better aftermarket cooler. With the stock cooler I would just go with stock speeds which at 3500mz are right up there.

I am not a gamer or video editor so this processor is certainly overkill for me.

5 out of 5 eggsA boss of a CPU

Pros: I have had this cpu for about 3 months now, and in that time it has:
-Rendered at least 100 videos (In a very timely manner)
-Blasted through games that my laptop couldn't
-Allows for OC
-Has never given me a problem
I also have it overclocked to 4.1 Ghz. That is 4.1 Ghz per core! Awesome.

Cons: Not really a con, but it is true that AMD does run hotter. So if you are overclocking, then buy a better cooler.

Other Thoughts: System:
Mobo: Asus M5a97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX-6300
RAM: 16 GB G. Skill 2133 ddr3
GPU: PowerCOlor r9 270
HDD: 2 TB
ODD: LG Blu Ray Rewriter
CASE: RAIDMAX Horus

5 out of 5 eggsBEST PROCESSOR EVER!

Pros: This is my first time building a computer and I must say! I did research for like 6 months for my build and I'm just an average gamer. This processor with 6 cores is really good and you can keep a lot of tabs open and still be playing League/CsGo/Dota2/BF3/4 and skype/teamspeak ETC.
-Good
-Fast
-Cheap
-Bang for Buck

Cons: The bad thing is that the thing tends to warm BUT not the hot kinda warm its just warm and the stock cooler runs fine to keep it cool~ If you ever want to overclock with this go ahead! It's strong. I'm going to get a Hyper Tx3 to overlcock mine cause sadly my case has a head clearing of below 150mm :( If not i would have went with the Hyper 212.

Other Thoughts: My first time built.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for $100

Pros: This is a pretty good chip for $100, I upgraded from a Phenom II 555, and its a major improvement. I never had an issue with the old chip in games, only emulators, and this chip solved all those issues. Its also easy to overclock, maxed mine out at 4.7GHz only with the multiplier, currently run it at 4.4GHz.

Cons: Not quite as powerful as the 8-core chips, if you can afford the extra $50ish USD then get the 8-core. Heat is not a cold as it could be outside of heavy load. Otherwise no other issues with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood CPU

Pros: Runs everything smoothly. Packaged well, assembled easily on motherboard and than with an after market heatsink. Runs faster than any other cpu I've had and stays pretty cool under load (45 degrees celsius).

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have 2 computers running this CPU on Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P motherboards with no issues.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good CPU.

Pros: Solid, not too hot, inexpensive, fast.

Cons: Not a thing yet.

Other Thoughts: I saw in the reviews before I bought it, where a LOT of people claimed the stock heatsink and fan where worthless. I'm willing to bet they mucked up on the thermal compound. I ran the stress test in AIDA 64 on 100% for thirty minutes, never topped 57c(134.6f). Which is awesome, my old i7 920 used to idle at 68c. Haven't taken it into games yet, my Steam library is still downloading. So not having gamed yet, couldn't give it 5.

5 out of 5 eggsAMD fails to disappoint!

Pros: Good clock speed, big cache, 6-cores for great multitasking, great gaming performance, BF4, BF3, Skyrim, GTA IV, Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age, etc all run smoothly even with my dated GPU, almost no need to overclock (although I may to squeeze a little more performance when GTA V finally hits PC), great price, lower power consumption vs FX8320

Cons: It is not an FX8320, other than that none to speak of!

Other Thoughts: I have always like AMD, and their ability to deliver good solid products cheaper than competitors, not always as fast, or bleeding edge, but always good, solid, dependable products for a price that people like me can agree with.
