New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to six “Piledriver” cores ensure breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 6-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Superior performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 6 Piledriver cores The native 6-core desktop processor ensures breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

3 out of 5 eggsCan't believe it died.

Pros: Great CPU gets the job done, Have put these in plenty of gaming rigs and media rigs.

Cons: None if it will last.

Other Thoughts: Sadly this is the first time AMD has failed me.
I've put this CPU in a few rigs mostly lower budget gaming rigs and rigs for Netflix and web browsing. The one that Failed me in just 5 months was in a pc ran to a tv just streaming Netflix and Hulu.
After watching a movie I put my system to sleep and she never woke up from that sleep could not get it to post afterwords.

So I took an 8150 that I have out of one of my gaming rigs and she powered right up.

Never would have thought with such great cooling and little stress that this CPU would just die, So knocking 2 eggs off for that.

Other than that it's a great CPU.

4 out of 5 eggsruns hot

Pros: does what it says. Would give 5 stars if the heat sink were better

Cons: does what it says but runs hot. replaced a quad core and it ran around 35c idle. This one runs 45+c idle and 50 if you do anything at all. No OC, stock fan. Found an older heat sync that was bigger and dropped it 10c. I believe the stock heat sink and fan are too small. I have a micro ATX board and small case so having trouble finding a better fan that will fit. I trusted that AMD would supply an adequate fan for a non gamer but not so sure

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget Processor

Pros: So I bought this processor for my budget gaming build. It has definitely served me well and there is no doubt in my mind that it will continue to do well. Pairing this with a good gpu and this thing can pretty much handle anything you throw at it.
The processor also runs quite cool, although I have it paired with a Cooler Master 212 EVO and temperatures rarely go over 40 degrees under a gaming load. I have this thing overlclocked to 4.3 Ghz on a budget motherboard and its running perfectly stable. If you're on a budget then this processor will be worth it to you as it's an absolute monster for the price.

Cons: Single core performance isn't that great. This is quite noticeable on mmo's where the processor needs to do all the work in loading the characters.

5 out of 5 eggsBest processor value out there

Pros: Fast
Great value
Compatible with my M5A97 LE2.0 motherboard

Cons: Runs hotter than an Intel
Also more power-hungry than an Intel.

Other Thoughts: Processor ran too hot with stock heatsink. Shame, AMD...

5 out of 5 eggsFast Affordable Fun

Pros: price, performance

Cons: hard to find a micro ATX for this CPU

Other Thoughts: Well it was a pain finding the perfect micro ATX to use this CPU on, and I couldn't use the brand that I wanted. But all that aside this is an awesome CPU, and handles really well. With the CPU overclocked 17% the temps stay below 40*C most of the time, and that's with only air cooling. I didn't keep it overclocked as my customer doesn't need it overclocked. This CPU is more than fast enough for everything he needs it for. This CPU blows away the competitor CPU at the same price point. It still bothers me for the same performance level you will spend a lot more on the other brand CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Fast

Pros: Fast, affordable, fun

Cons: not very many micro ATX that use this cpu

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Fast enough for most people to stay relevant for years.

Cons: Like all AMD processors it puts off a little too much heat.

Other Thoughts: Used this in a build over a year ago for a relative. It's been rock solid and fast, no complaints.

1 out of 5 eggsNever Again

Pros: I have purchased and built over 50 computers in the last few years. AMD I thought was a decent processor and was a cheaper way of getting great power.

Cons: I purchased a system almost a year ago. I have replaced the MB, Ram and Power supply. I am getting crazy reading from the processor. I request from AMD support to have them replace the Processor. Terrible customer support and they told me that I never contacted them. I am going to try 1 more time. This might be the last AMD that I build..

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Six cores, transcode video and watch netflix ans surf the web at the same time with no problems. Overclocked to 4.5ghz with no problems on water. Not as snappy as my uncles i7 4790 but a third of the price too, is only 10% slower than my works dell optiplex 7010 with i5 3570 at double the price. Playing witcher3 at 2560x1080 on high to ultra setting with hair switch off and my gtx 780 at 100% cpu never sees anything higher than 80% load on any cores at 30fps, in case you were wondering about bottlenecking.

Cons: When i bought it over a year ago I paid $120 hasn't gotten much cheaper since then if that's a con

Other Thoughts: mobo- 990fxa-ud3
proc- fx6300@4.5ghz
cooler- corsair h100i
os drive- Intel 530 Series
vc- GV-N780GHZ-3GD
ram- 16GB corsair vengance 1600
all housed in- corsair air540
