New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to six “Piledriver” cores ensure breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 6-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Superior performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 6 Piledriver cores The native 6-core desktop processor ensures breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: -Fast
-never any slow down running several intensive applications
-Cheap
-Effective

Cons: runs a little on the high side in temps, but not ridiculous and you probably should already know that, yeah?

Other Thoughts: If I had to, I'd probably get it all over again, it really delivers and helped me stay under my budget.

5 out of 5 eggsCore2Duo to FX-6300

Pros: Six Cores
Very Easy To Overclock
Great for multitasking
Low Price

Cons: Not Free...

Other Thoughts: I would recommend AMD processors to anyone price/power is just great if you want the highest end machine go Intel this is a processor for a middle end machine not high end. Not for super heavy lifting, video rendering cut in half easily probably more, gaming highest possible, I can have 4 or 5 programs running easily, desktop recording, media player, rendering another video, browser with 4 or 5 tabs, libre office writter all at the same time no biggie.
Coming from a Core2Duo to this has been a great improvement.

4 out of 5 eggsgood

Pros: A nice 6 core for the price.

Cons: Stock fan that comes with it does not do a good job at keeping temps low when it is under load while gaming. Mine will go up to about 50-55C

Other Thoughts: Had to take 1 egg off because of the fan. I would suggest buying an aftermarket cooler when you get this if you can.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it.

Pros: only $120
Six Cores
Turbo up to 4.1
what else could you need

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have this paired with a Radeon HD 7790 and it is a great combo. I have a liquid cooled unit on it because I don't trust the little heat sink and fan include with the turbo running.

5 out of 5 eggsOh Yes!

Pros: Wow, upgraded from a dual core E2200. I primarily use my rig for basic surfing with video rendering thrown in plus StarCraft II, Doctor Who, and Left 4 Dead 2. Video rendering times were cut down from 1 hour 15 for a 90 minute movie to right under 30 minutes. The six cores spread the job so that each was about 30% utilized simultaneously. This is a great improvement over what I had before with 99% utilization on both cores. I'm not concerned with heat at all since I keep the ambient room temperature to below 75 F at all times and the system hasn't cried foul yet.
I am also starting to use this CPU to support Virtual Box running SuSe and it is handling it like a champ with extra capacity to handle me surfing and watching movies in the foreground.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast for the money

Pros: This thing is pretty darn good for the money. In Planetside 2, it mostly stays over 25 in really crowded areas. In other areas it easily stays above 40 FPS which is nice, since the game isn't really optimized for AMD processors. So if it handles Planetside 2, I'm pretty sure it handles most games easily.

Cons: The fan can get pretty loud sometimes, but it does the job so that's okay.

4 out of 5 eggs love it

Pros: Love it 6 cores, turbos itself to 4.1, good overclocking options if I ever do

Cons: The stock heat sink is horrible, had it on for 30 minutes and went out and bought a different one,

Other Thoughts: I committed the worse offense, I switched from intel to amd and took a little bit of time to get used to the fact that amd's like to run a little warmer, mine goes from 36 idle to about 55 under load

3 out of 5 eggsHeatsink is not as described in many reviews

Pros: Decent CPU

Cons: This Vishera CPU does NOT have "large copper base with four heat pipes" as it was announced by NeweggTV in the presence of an AMD representative.

Many other reviews are also talking about its "large copper base with four heat pipes", while actually it has just primitive aluminium piece...

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This CPU has a reputation as one of the best budget processors for users who need high multitasking capability, and it certainly lives up to it. With this processor, I can have iTunes playing music, Steam downloading a new game, Firefox uploading videos, and Thunderbird running, all while playing a processor-intensive game like Skyrim without so much as a slowdown.

The six cores also come in handy when running tasks like virtual machines - I can run an Ubuntu linux VM with four cores assigned to it, and still have a dual core processor left over to run tasks on my Windows 8 installation - and heavily threaded desktop applications such as 7-zip.

Cons: As with all Vishera parts, power consumption tends to be on the higher end of the scale, but depending on where you live, this may or may not be a problem.

Other Thoughts: While the stock cooler included is not completely worthless as other reviews have made it out to be, it is also just adequate for this processor. It will keep it at good temps at stock clocks only - do not try to overclock with this thing. If you wish to overclock at all, get a Hyper 212 EVO for $30 and you will get great temps out of this processor.
