New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to six “Piledriver” cores ensure breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 6-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Superior performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 6 Piledriver cores The native 6-core desktop processor ensures breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

1 out of 5 eggsfailed after less than a month

Pros: worked ok at first

Cons: computer started turning off randomly so i thought it was the PSU, it wasnt that so i thought it was the motherboard. wrong again. i took it to a computer shop and they diagnosed it and told me it was the processor

Other Thoughts: i may have just gotten a lemon.... just be careful and don't skimp out on quality if you can afford a better processor

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Cheap, Processes, Overclockable.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Stable and it works. Happy with my purchase. Not the most powerful, but good for a budget build and is playing games well paired with a R7 260x

5 out of 5 eggsI'm pleased with this CPU!

Pros: I knew what to expect from this CPU. I reviewed it extensively for over two months. If you want to use this for gaming I would highly recommend it. I was using an i5 650, a dual core with hyper-threading, and it was holding back my 7970. I wasn't able to get a decent frame rate on GTA V with low textures or low resolution on with my old CPU. Now I'm able to run GTA V with very high textures, 1080p @ 30fps, and overall a much more pleasant experience. I choose to run it at 30fps since I prefer a balance between good graphics and good frame rate.

Windows is much more responsive as well. I click on something and it goes instantly. Opening iTunes was a pain before since I have a large library, now it opens and I can search instantly for a song that I want.

I would highly recommend this CPU to anyone looking to do a first build or, looking to upgrade their current Rig.

3 out of 5 eggsAMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.5GHz

Pros: This is a okay CPU but I've seen better. It's good for multitasking but I wold rate this just about the same as a four core cpu.

Cons: It's not that great for gaming with higher end graphics cards.
I tested it between the GTX 650 2GB and the GTX 970 4G.
I got better lower FPS on low demanding games such as MInecraft with the 970 compared to the 650. But I get better FPS on high demanding games such as Battlefield 4, or Arma 3 with the 970.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat chip, runs fast.

Pros: -Very good for the price
-Six cores are great for multitasking

Cons: -Mine didn't overclock very well, although this is due to motherboard. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: My board is an AsRock 970M Pro3 that I also purchased from Newegg. I don't know if it is my chip or my board, but I was only able to achieve a stable 3.8GHz. Despite this, the chip is very good and perfectly suits my GTX 760.

4 out of 5 eggsIncluded heatsink/fan is LOUD

Pros: Nice processor, good performance, great price

Cons: The fan on the included heatsink is LOUD. L-O-U-D. Perhaps I got a bunk unit, but it is LOUD.

Other Thoughts: I'll be building another system soon. I'll still buy this processor, I'll just order a different heatsink in advance.

5 out of 5 eggsLoving it so far

Pros: No problems at all. Installed easily, and has been blazing away. Bought this for the GF's computer, and she has been playing Guild Wars 2 with graphics cranked up and no issues.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful AMD Processor at a Budget Price

Pros: Replaced an aging A8-3850 with this unit as my HTPC was handling additional HD Cameras / TV tuners and was starting to get bottlenecked. Installation of new board and CPU was quick and the CPU immediately performed significantly better eliminating my CPU bottleneck. For 99$ this chip is an excellent performer. I specifically purchased this for its ability to handle a lot of operations simultaneously as my system serves up cameras, Media, TV, Caller ID and our libraries to all of our devices at home and outside of the house. Given this is a Black Processor I will have head room to overclock in the future if my demands on the HTPC Server increase.

Cons: Draws a little more wattage then I prefer for a 24X7 system however its no more then the former APU processor I utilized. Stock cooling unit likely cant handle much of an overclock at descent temps but that's expected.

Other Thoughts: Tremendous Value and great for those who like to Overclock. In my case for 24X7 usage the Stock speed has plenty of headroom to handle all of my HTPC and Camera Server functions.

5 out of 5 eggswhat a beast

Pros: overclocks like crazy!!! easily got it to go to 3.5ghz to 4.1 without overvolting. got it as high as 4.5ghz with stock fan. anything higher than this and youll want to water cool to hit that 5ghz if your lucky.

runs surprisingly cool with stock fan at base speeds.

great price for a cpu this much power

Cons: runs pretty hot with stock cooler with much higher overclocks. its best to replace that with a good fan. water cooling would be preferred.

4 out of 5 eggsSuprisignly decent

Pros: Excellent for audio editing
great for overclocking
great bang for your buck

Cons: Very few games can support more than 4 cores
TDP is a little high

Other Thoughts: I'm very satisfied with this processor, I used to buy from Intel exclusively so I thought i'd test the waters and I was not disappointed. This processor was a major improvement from my dual core i5-650.

If you do a lot of audio or video editing you will absolutely adore this processor, if you do a lot of gaming you will find it to be decent for the job, but I cannot deny that an intel processor is better suited to that task.
