New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to six “Piledriver” cores ensure breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 6-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Superior performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 6 Piledriver cores The native 6-core desktop processor ensures breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsSolid CPU

Pros: Bought this to build decent gaming PC for my daughter. With it I purchased:

Systemboard: MSI 760GM-P23 (FX)
Ram: CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB)Model TW3X4G1333C9
Graphic Card: MSI R7 250 2GD3 OC Radeon R7 250

She could not be happier....She only plays Warcraft....Mindcraft and SIMS and everything on high with no problems.

Very nice processor!

Cons: No Cons...

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Sweet

Pros: Fast, easy to overclock (but don't go past 4.1Ghz with the stock cooler!), competes with the Intel equivalent at half the price!

Cons: Stock cooler is kind of cheap...but easy enough to replace with an aftermarket one.

Other Thoughts: I paired this with a BioStar TA970 and saved some dough. Added 16GB of Vulcan DDR3 1600 and CrossFire Radeon 7970's (2GB vRAM each). Goes into full beastmode on any game I throw at it.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid for price

Pros: Overclocks like a beast, I have a h60 on it and will go up to 4.5ghz with complete stability.

Cons: You can actually get it to 4.1ghz with the stock cooler, but any farther than that and its probably toast.

Other Thoughts: I bought this with the gigabyte 970 combo, saved me $20

Pros: Absolutely AMAZING processor. Overclocks like a dream. Compared to ridiculously priced Intel products, the AMD FX 6300 is literally the BEST processor on the market for a PC Gamer on a budget!

Cons: Haven't found one yet.

Other Thoughts: It doesn't make me a sandwich

5 out of 5 eggsOh Dolly!

Pros: *Power efficiency and performance is fantastic
*Can be overclocked easily.
*Very affordable
*Runs super cool with proper case set up, and ambient temperature.
*Noticeable performance gains.
*Got it recently @ 10 dollars off!

Cons: *The stock heat-sink & fan are of average quality, and wont do such a good job keeping this thing cool in hot environments, at full-load and or if you are overclocking it.

Other Thoughts: Having owned a Phenom II x4 965 BE for over 2-3 years, I can say that even though initially skeptical with these new FX processors, which appear to be directly improved upon the previous processor line, is the easiest purchasing decision I've made in a while. With a tower cooler and some quality thermal paste, this thing idles around 10c and doesn't go past 45c under full load, while overclocked to 4.0 Ghz. I previously bought a FX-4300 for a friend, and tested it thoroughly before I installed it, and I can say it was also great, but I decided to put in the extra few bucks to get the six core, and boy am I glad I did! The 4300 was good, but the 6300 is even better, I can only imagine the 8xxx series are even more so. But for my budget this thing is more than sufficient for my gaming, multi-tasking, moderate video editing, audio encoding and photo editing. Just make sure you install the 2 updates for Windows 7 which resolves some issues, kb2645594 & kb2646060 via MS Website.

A little comparison with AMD OverDrive Benchmark, on my PC:

AMD Phenom II x 4 965 BE @ 4.0 Ghz

Integer Computation: 21280
Floating Point Computation: 21270
Memory Speed: 3305
Cache Speed: 18574
System Performance: 6442

VS

AMD FX-6300 @ 4 Ghz

Integer Computation: 60000
Floating Point Computation: 19320
Memory Speed: 2382
Cache Speed: 25206
System Performance: 10690

Windows Experience Index:, for those that actually use it:
Processor: 7.5
Memory: 7.8
Graphics: 7.7
Gaming Graphics: 7.7
Hard Disk: 5.9

And for reference my system build:

Case: COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black Mid-Tower

CPU: AMD FX-6300 @ 4.0 Ghz

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual-Channel Mode

Motherboard: ASRock 970 EXTREME3 BIOS 1.80

Power Supply: XFX 650W POWER SUPPLY EXTREME EDITION

Sound: PCIe SB X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series

Graphics: HIS 6850 with Arctic Cooling [Accelero L2 PLUS]
aftermarket gpu cooler.

System Drive: Western Digital 640 GB Black Edition

Storage Drive: Western Digital 500 GB Green Edition

2 High Speed 120mm case fans.

I live in the high desert with average indoor temps of 20 - 70+ f. during regular seasons and around 80 to 90+ f. during summer.
