New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to six “Piledriver” cores ensure breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 6-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Superior performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 6 Piledriver cores The native 6-core desktop processor ensures breathtaking 3D modeling and HD video edition as well as maximum multitasking with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsNice budget build item

Pros: Only about $10 -20 more than the 4 core one. Have the fx4300 in one build, it can load up the processor in some extreme cases. The extra 2 cores of the fx-6300 have so far never resulted in a fully loaded CPU unless running benchmarking. In real world it's the "right" size. also , have a FX-8350 in another build, that monster is overkill for most folks. I mean it's cool. But unless you are doing some heavy rendering, nothing in real world can load the 8 core monster. Summary- on a budget- the 6 core version is the way to go. 4 core actually gets the job done just fine, but the price is so close of the 2, upgrade to 6 cores.

Cons: the stock cooler is the same as the 4 core version. Add a water cooler to keep temps down.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great, but poor customer service on RMA

Pros: It worked great while it lasted.

Cons: 9 days later still no replacement..

Other Thoughts: I received the item quickly, installed it and it worked great for a few hours then just died mysteriously without warning or showing excessive heat, Requested RMA and asked to pay additional for an upgrade to an 8350 but was told they can only replace the item (their loss), So i told rep to charge me for another and send it out immediately cause it is a build for a customer... so sent the item back same day 12/5/2014, needless to say 9 days later i still have not received a new one or a replacement, what happened to the old great Newegg who cared about their customers time and money?

4 out of 5 eggsFast effeciency and durability for Cost

Pros: It remains cool on a average powered 40$ heat sink to around 37-39*C and Is high loaded on to about 45-48 degrees *C
very nice cooling and speed and proficiency. I recommend this for a starters build with somewhat strong durable pins. but still be careful they can be durable to a slight socket install and shouldnt be pressed with shifting with installation so just make sure it is all properly fit with no jiggle on installation.

Cons: It will shut off around 10 seconds with no cooling or if heat sinc is not properly touching the processor. install the sinc depending on the board and assure it post on diagnostics.

make sure you install the heat sinc on properly.

other then that no cons.

Other Thoughts: Again stated

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Haven't had a single issue even with the STOCK cooler fan. I use this computer for strictly gaming and never see more than 5% cpu usage. Think i went overboard on a CPU and fell short on the GPU.

Cons: NONE AT ALL

Other Thoughts: Over a year and still runs like a champ!

4 out of 5 eggsGood CPU for the price

Pros: What can I say, it's AMD we all know what AMD offers, affordable CPU's. The performance to price ratio is where it's at.
If you are budget building You go AMD. At the current price of 99 dollars It's a good price, But now that the FX-8320 is 130 dollars I would go that road. Especially if you plan on gaming. I got my FX6300 when it was still 126.00.

Cons: Well, like I said if you are gaming get something else like the FX 8 core or i5 3570k. My FX 6300 & mobo bottle necked the hell out of my 760 SLI.

People will say the FX6300 wont bottle neck a 760 SLI they are wrong. I have the benchmarks to prove it.

IF you have a stock cpu fan and an MSI 97A- G43 or G46 board over clocking wouldn't be a great idea. Also don't put an FX - 8 core on ether mobo.. Some say you can get away with it, but I saw more people with fried Mobo' then a little bit.

IF you get a 750ti or maybe one 760 the FX 6300 wont choke as bad, but don't quote me on that.

Other Thoughts: I've built 3 AMD rigs in the past two years & I just finished my first Intel build. I now see what all the fuss was about over Intel, it's the better choice especially if you run nivida cards.

If someone were to ask me about AMD vs Intel I'd tell them this.
If you are on a tight budget and cannot go over a set amount.
Go AMD
IF you can squeeze out a few more bucks, go Intel.

5 out of 5 eggsHype

Pros: Arrived in good condition, although not in a very timely manner. 9 days from time of purchase.

Cons: Don't have a mobo to put in on yet.

Kind of a lengthy wait after purchase before recieving item. 9 days even though I purchased 2-3 day delivery.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: This processor is much faster than I originally thought it was going to be. I highly recommend this processor to anyone that is looking for a mid to high level gaming processor, as it has performed much higher than I originally expected.

Cons: It seems like the FX series processors have some sort of thermal sensor malfunction, as on the stock heatsink it reports that it idles at 6C (hmmmm....).

Other Thoughts: I bought this on black Friday, November 28th, and it was supposed to come with a free voucher for the game Thief, but as of 12/10, it still has not arrived. I am wondering if the voucher comes in the mail in an letter envelope, but I have been checking my mail, and still have not received it. If someone could let me know what is going on with that, I would greatly appreciate it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat price! Waiting for other parts

Pros: Great price for the CPU. Have not built my gaming rig yet.

Cons: Fingerprints on processor itself. Looks like I was given a refurbished one instead of a brand new one. Box was banged up when it arrived as well. Not newegg's fault.
